Keep a standard Galaxy S6 dry while running in rain or heavy sweat. Do not assume it is water-resistant because some later Galaxy phones carry IP68 ratings: Samsung’s cited IP68 care sheet names other devices, not the Galaxy S6. If you need to carry the phone in wet weather, use a properly fitting, securely closed protective case or pouch and check its seals before each run.
Is the Galaxy S6 waterproof?
Samsung Australia’s support material identifies the Galaxy S6 model SM-G920I and links to its manuals. Samsung’s separate water-and-dust protection sheet describes IP68 guidance for the device models it lists, but the standard Galaxy S6 is not on that list. The sheet’s omission does not settle the rating or warranty treatment of every regional S6 variant; it does mean the sheet cannot support a claim that the S6 is safe to use in rain or sweat.

The sheet’s fresh-water conditions—up to 1.5 metres for 30 minutes under controlled testing—apply to the listed devices, not to the Galaxy S6. Do not use those figures as an S6 specification. Samsung also warns that impact can damage water- and dust-resistant features, which is another reason not to treat a phone’s assumed resistance as dependable protection.

How to carry it on a wet run
- Confirm the exact model. Check the model number in the phone’s settings or on its product information before buying a fitted case. Samsung Australia identifies SM-G920I as a Galaxy S6 model; regional variants exist, so do not assume every S6-labelled accessory fits yours.
- Choose a case or pouch that fits that variant. A FRE product document titled “FRE FOR GALAXY S6” describes a waterproof case, showing that an S6-specific product option exists. That is the product’s own claim, not independent test evidence; it does not establish current stock, compatibility with every regional variant, or protection performance.
- Inspect and close it before leaving. Check that the phone sits correctly, the port and other openings are covered, and every closure is fully sealed. Follow the product’s own care and protection instructions. Do not rely on a case with a damaged seal or uncertain fit.
- Secure it for movement. Use a carrying arrangement that keeps the closed case from bouncing loose or rubbing open while you run. If you need to use the screen, check that it remains usable through the cover without compromising the seal.
What to do if the phone gets wet
Move the phone out of the damp environment and gently dry its exterior. Samsung’s rinse guidance in the cited IP68 care sheet is for the water-resistant devices it lists, not expressly for the standard Galaxy S6; do not treat that guidance as S6-specific permission to rinse the phone. If moisture may have entered the handset, avoid further exposure and consult the manual or Samsung support for your exact model.

What to check before choosing protection
- Whether the case explicitly fits your exact Galaxy S6 model or regional variant.
- How its port openings and closure are sealed, and whether the seal is intact.
- Whether it can be carried securely while running and whether you can use the screen through its cover if needed.
- Whether the seller provides clear use and care instructions. A product description alone is not independent proof of water protection.
