For the Altice digital adapter covered by Optimum’s instructions, pair the remote from the box’s Settings menu: select “Pair Remote Control,” then hold 7 and 9 together on the remote for at least five seconds. This method is model-specific; it is not established as a universal setup sequence for every Suddenlink cable box or remote.
Pair the remote with a supported Altice digital adapter
Use these steps only if your equipment matches the Altice digital adapter in the Optimum Altice Digital Adapter User Guide:
- Open Settings on the cable box and go to the remote-pairing option.
- Select Pair Remote Control.
- On the remote, press and hold 7 and 9 together for at least five seconds.
Optimum’s guide says that once paired, the remote works exclusively with that box. If the on-screen menu or remote does not match these instructions, stop rather than trying the button sequence on different equipment.
Check your equipment if those steps do not match
“Suddenlink remote” does not identify one specific remote or cable box. The available setup instructions do not establish a single pairing process for every legacy Suddenlink combination. Identify the model number on the remote and box, then consult instructions for that exact equipment. Optimum’s TV support page lists “Pair and program your remote” as a support topic, but does not provide a universal sequence for legacy Suddenlink equipment.

Pairing connects a remote with a cable box. TV programming typically configures functions such as television power, volume, and mute, sometimes using a four-digit TV code. A TV code does not by itself pair a remote with the cable box. For example, TCL’s provider-code information concerns programming a cable or satellite remote to control a TCL television; it is not a cable-box pairing guide.
Before following any setup sequence, check whether the instructions name your remote and box models and whether they describe box pairing or TV control. A sequence for one task should not be assumed to complete the other.
