What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
To print a screenshot that is open in Snipping Tool, select File > Print, choose your printer and the options shown in the Windows print dialog, then print. If the capture is already saved, open its folder, right-click the image, select Print, and make the same choices. These steps apply to Windows 11 and Windows 10.
Choose the route that matches where your screenshot is
There are two supported ways to print a Snipping Tool capture. Use the first when the image is still open in the Snipping Tool editor. Use the second when you already have an image file in a folder.
| Where the capture is now | Print entry point | What you need |
|---|---|---|
| Open in Snipping Tool | File > Print | The capture visible in the editor and an available Windows printer |
| Saved in a folder | Right-click the image > Print | An image file such as the copy saved from Snipping Tool |
Neither route guarantees a particular paper size, orientation, scaling mode or margin. Those choices are supplied by your Windows print dialog and printer. Review its preview before committing to paper.
Print a capture that is open in Snipping Tool
1. Make or open the capture
If you have not captured the screen yet, press Windows logo key + Shift + S. Select the snip mode offered by the overlay, drag over the area you need, and release. Windows copies the capture to the Snipping Tool window for editing, saving and sharing. Select the notification that appears so the image opens in the app.
#1 Best Overall
If the image is already open, leave it displayed in the Snipping Tool editor. Check that it shows the complete area you intend to print; a later crop cannot restore pixels that were never captured.
2. Open the print command
- In Snipping Tool, select File.
- Select Print.
- When the Windows print dialog appears, select the printer you want to use.
3. Check the options and preview
Use the controls your dialog provides for paper, orientation, copies, color and scaling. The exact labels differ by Windows version and printer. Look at the preview for clipped edges, excessive white space or an unexpectedly small image. If the dialog offers a choice such as fitting the image to the page, compare that result with the original capture before printing.
4. Send the job
Select the dialog’s print button after the preview matches your intent. Keep the Snipping Tool window open until you are satisfied that the correct image was sent; if you need another copy later, save the image first.
Print a screenshot that is already saved
1. Find the image file
Open the folder where you saved the capture. Snipping Tool can create an additional image copy with Save as Image; choose the location and filename when you use that command. If you are unsure which file is the right one, open it and verify the visible content before printing.

2. Use the file’s context menu
- Right-click the screenshot file.
- Select Print.
- Choose the printer and the print options shown by Windows.
- Review the preview and confirm the print job.
This file-based route is useful when Snipping Tool is closed, when you want to print a copy later, or when the in-app print command is not available.

Get the image ready before printing
Capture only what belongs on paper
Use the Windows + Shift + S overlay to select the required window or region rather than capturing the entire desktop. A tighter selection normally makes text and controls easier to place on a page. If the screenshot includes private notifications, account details or unrelated tabs, make a new snip before printing.
Save a recoverable copy
Use Save as Image and choose a location and filename you will recognize. Saving before printing gives you a stable file for a second attempt and lets you use the folder’s right-click > Print route if the editor closes.
Inspect orientation and scale in preview
Wide browser windows often fit better in landscape orientation, while a tall document may use portrait. These are recommendations to evaluate in your own dialog, not universal Snipping Tool defaults. The preview is the authoritative check because printer drivers expose different controls.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhat to do when printing does not work
There is no Print command in Snipping Tool
First make sure a capture is actually open in the editor rather than only visible as a notification. If the command still is not present, save the image with Save as Image, open its folder, right-click the saved file and choose Print. This bypasses the editor menu.
The screenshot does not appear in the folder
A capture copied to the Snipping Tool window is not necessarily a saved file. Return to Snipping Tool, use Save as Image, and note the location and filename you select. Then open that folder and use the file-based print route.

The wrong area was captured
Cancel the print job, create a new capture with Windows + Shift + S, and select the precise region. Verify the new image in Snipping Tool before choosing File > Print.
The preview cuts off part of the image
Check the print dialog’s orientation, scaling and paper controls. Try the alternatives shown by your printer and watch the preview after each change. Because these controls are printer-specific, there is no single setting that is correct for every Windows installation.

The image looks unexpectedly small
Review the dialog for a fit, fill or scale option and compare the preview with the page boundaries. A screenshot with large empty margins may need a different orientation or a tighter recapture. Do not assume that changing paper size will preserve every edge; confirm in preview.
The shortcut does not open the capture overlay
Use the Snipping Tool application directly to start a capture, then save the result and print it from the file’s context menu. The essential requirement is an image file or an image open in Snipping Tool; the keyboard shortcut is only the quickest way to begin.
The printer or its options are missing
The Snipping Tool instructions hand printer selection and layout to Windows. If your intended printer is not listed or its controls are unavailable, select another installed printer to confirm that the screenshot and print workflow are functioning, then follow the support instructions for your Windows and printer installation. Avoid changing the capture itself until the printer appears in the dialog.

Printing several captures consistently
- Create each snip with the same approximate region and orientation.
- Use Save as Image for every capture, choosing clear filenames and one folder.
- Open each file to verify its contents before printing.
- Right-click each verified file and select Print, or open one in Snipping Tool and use File > Print.
- Use the same options in the print dialog and inspect each preview, because a different aspect ratio can change how an image fits the page.
Keeping the files gives you a record of exactly what was printed and makes it possible to repeat a job without recapturing the screen.

Snipping Tool is intended for a capture of what is visible on your Windows screen. If you need a repeatable image of a web page, a server-side screenshot API can avoid opening a browser manually. That is a different workflow: the API returns an image (or PDF) that you can open and print through your normal Windows application.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. Give it a URL and it returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF. Before capture, it accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets; each step can be disabled. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers.
The following one-call example captures a page. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for authentication and options.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
After the command finishes, open shot.webp and print it with your image viewer’s print command, or right-click the file and choose Print.
Python
import requests
r = requests.get(
"https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"},
timeout=90,
)
r.raise_for_status()
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`Screenshot failed: ${res.status}`);
const fs = await import('node:fs/promises');
await fs.writeFile('shot.webp', Buffer.from(await res.arrayBuffer()));
Options for print-oriented captures
- Capture the full page and load lazy images before the shot.
- Capture one element with a CSS selector.
- Set a device preset or any viewport, plus a retina scale.
- Use dark mode, transparent backgrounds or image resizing when the printed design requires it.
- Apply custom CSS or JavaScript, click an element, hide selectors, or wait for a selector, delay or network idle.
- Block ads, trackers, requests or resource types to remove unwanted page content.
- Set headers, cookies, user agent, Authorization, timezone and geolocation for pages that vary by request.
- Request a PDF with paper size, margins, landscape mode and page ranges when a document-style output is more useful than an image.
- Use caching with a chosen TTL, signed links for public image tags, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture for up to 100 URLs per call, the usage API and the OpenAPI specification.
ScreenshotNeo accepts parameter names used by other screenshot APIs, which can simplify a migration. Its MCP server includes take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients.
