First let the page load fully; if it reveals content as you scroll, move through the article and wait for new sections and images to appear. That can help, but it cannot guarantee that every dynamically loaded element will print.
A reliable way to print a long webpage to PDF
- Load the page. Wait for it to settle. Scroll through the full article if it loads more sections or images as you move down, pausing for newly revealed content to appear.
- Open Print. Use the browser menu or its keyboard shortcut. On desktop Chrome, use Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on Mac. Edge documents the same shortcuts for Windows and macOS. In Firefox, open printing from the browser menu.
- Select a PDF destination. Depending on your browser, system, and destination, it may be called Save as PDF or Save to PDF.
- Inspect the preview before saving. Check the beginning, page breaks, and final page. Confirm that the expected sections, tables, footnotes, and ending appear. If the preview stops early or clips content, change settings and preview again; saving will not reliably fix a bad preview.
- Save and verify the file. Open the PDF and spot-check the start, middle, and end, including pages near major section boundaries.
Browser print layouts do not necessarily match the screen. Mozilla Support cautions: “Web pages can set themselves up to appear different on paper to how they look on screen, so don’t be surprised to see some changes.” A print preview and a saved-file check are therefore more useful than assuming the page’s screen appearance will carry over intact.

Browser-specific steps
Chrome on desktop
Open File > Print or use Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on Mac. Choose a destination and review the available settings in the print dialog. The exact labels can vary with the operating system and destination.
Chrome on Android
Open the page, then tap More > Share > Print. Select a printer destination and choose Save as PDF to save the preview. These steps are for Android; do not assume the same route applies to iPhone or iPad.

Firefox on desktop
Open print preview and choose Save to PDF as the destination. Under More settings, Firefox provides controls for page range, orientation, paper size, scale, margins, format, headers and footers, and backgrounds. Its Simplified format and print backgrounds cannot be selected together.
Microsoft Edge on desktop
Choose Settings and more > Print, or use Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS. Under More settings, adjust margins and scale, enable Background graphics if the page’s visual background matters, or add a date and page number with Headers and footers. Edge also offers Print using system dialog. Its Immersive Reader option can reduce clutter but is not available for every site.

Safari on Mac
Safari’s documented options to save a page as a Web Archive or Page Source are not PDF-export instructions: a Web Archive saves a page with graphics and links, while Page Source saves HTML source. Use Safari’s current Print dialog for PDF output and inspect its preview. Apple notes that some pages may prevent saving items that appear on them.

- Text is clipped at an edge: Try a wider paper size, landscape orientation, smaller scale, or narrower margins. Change one setting at a time and recheck the preview so text does not become too small to read.
- A page is unusually wide: Landscape orientation or a wider paper size may fit it better. If the content remains squeezed, try a smaller scale and inspect the resulting text size.
- Background colors or images are missing: Enable Background graphics in Edge or print backgrounds in Firefox when those elements are necessary. Background printing can use more ink if you later print the PDF on paper.
- The page is cluttered with navigation or ads: Try Firefox’s Simplified format or Reader View, or Edge’s Immersive Reader when available. Check that the simplified preview retains the content you need, such as diagrams, tables, and footnotes. Simplified printing may remove backgrounds.
- Headers or footers interfere: Review the browser’s headers-and-footers setting. Turn it off if browser-generated details intrude on the page, or leave it on when page numbers or dates help identify printed pages.
- Only some pages are needed: Use the print dialog’s page-range control and confirm the selected pages in preview before saving.
Why a PDF may still be incomplete
A preview cannot include content the page has not loaded, and a website’s print styles may hide or rearrange parts of the page. Scrolling through a page that reveals material on demand is a sensible precaution, not a guarantee that all deferred content will appear in the print output. If a page’s own download, export, or print feature is available, try it when browser output remains incomplete.

If the PDF looks complete in preview but is missing material after saving, reopen the file and check it. If the difference persists, try another browser’s PDF destination or the site’s own export. Browser output may differ, so inspect the result rather than assuming a switch will reproduce the same layout.
Troubleshoot print failures
- One page or website will not print: Test another website or document. If only the original page fails, its graphics, fonts, code, or print layout may be involved. Try a reader mode if available and compare the preview.
- Printing fails in more than one application: The cause may be outside the webpage, such as a printer driver, Windows, hardware, or connectivity. If the browser preview itself is the issue, reopen it or try the system print dialog.
- Preview and saved PDF disagree: Reopen the PDF to verify. If it remains incomplete, retry with another browser’s built-in PDF destination or use the webpage’s own export or print feature.
- Reader mode omits important material: Return to the original page format and inspect its preview. Reader modes can change what prints and may not be offered for every page.

Can scrolling guarantee every part of a webpage will be included in the PDF?
No. Scrolling gives deferred content a chance to load, but it does not guarantee that the browser will print it.

Does Safari’s Web Archive save a webpage as a PDF?
No. A Web Archive is a different save format. For a PDF, use Safari’s Print dialog and inspect its preview.
