If you need a paginated document rather than an image, use Print and save or print to PDF instead.
What “print a full-page screenshot” means
A normal screenshot records the part of a page visible in the browser window. A full-page screenshot captures content beyond the bottom edge too, producing a tall image of the rendered webpage. It is useful when you need to share or keep a visual record of a long page.
Printing is different. A print workflow lays out webpage content as a document, often across multiple pages, and may apply print-specific formatting. Choose a screenshot for a visual image of the page; choose print-to-PDF when you want a document you can read, send or print on paper. The exact result can vary with the website, its moving or dynamically loaded content, and browser version.
Take a full-page screenshot in Firefox
- Open the webpage you want to capture. Right-click an empty area of the page and choose Take Screenshot. You can also use Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- In the screenshot interface, choose Save full page. This captures the page beyond the visible portion. Choose Save visible if you only want what is currently on screen.
- Review the result, then use the available option to download the image or copy it.
Firefox’s toolbar can also be customized to add a screenshot button. Because browser menus and controls can change, the right-click menu or keyboard shortcut is a practical starting point if the toolbar button is absent. These steps follow Mozilla’s Firefox Help instructions; labels may differ in another version or configuration.

Take a full-page screenshot in Microsoft Edge
- Open the page in Edge. On Windows, press Ctrl+Shift+S. You can also open Screenshot from the webpage’s right-click menu or from Edge’s Settings menu.
- Choose Capture full page, rather than a selected-area capture.
- Review the capture, then copy it or save it to a file using the options shown.
Microsoft describes this tool as able to capture content extending beyond the screen, including some moving content such as video, GIFs and carousels. Results for moving elements depend on what is happening at capture time, so a single image cannot convey their motion. Microsoft also notes that availability and functionality can vary by device type, market and browser version. If the shortcut or option is missing, try the page context menu or Settings menu and check that Edge is current.
Capture a full page in Chrome with DevTools
Chrome’s documented DevTools route is more technical than Firefox’s or Edge’s dedicated page-screenshot option. It captures a selected page element as a node screenshot, including content below the fold. For a whole-page result, select the page-level element you intend to capture rather than a smaller section.

- Open the webpage in Chrome and open DevTools. You can use Chrome’s menu to reach the developer tools if you do not have a keyboard shortcut configured.
- In DevTools, open the Elements panel and select the element you want to capture. Check the highlighted page area before continuing; a selected article or container produces a screenshot of that element, not necessarily the entire page.
- Right-click the selected element and choose Capture node screenshot. Save the resulting image when prompted.
Chrome’s Command Menu also has Capture area screenshot, but that captures a user-selected region, not a full page. Do not use it when you need all content below the fold. Chrome’s documentation notes that full-page screenshots became more precise in Chrome 89; that release note is historical context, not a guarantee that every current page or version will render identically.

Use print-to-PDF when you need a document
To make a paginated document in Edge, open Settings and more > Print, or press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS. Choose the print settings you need and select the appropriate PDF destination in the print dialog. The available destination labels can depend on the operating system and installed print options.
A PDF may not look exactly like the screen: websites can use different print layouts, omit background details or split content across pages. If the page is cluttered, Microsoft suggests trying Immersive Reader as a print workaround where that feature is available. It is not available on every website. Chrome Headless also documents separate --screenshot and --print-to-pdf options for command-line workflows; they produce different kinds of output.

Choose the right capture method

When a capture is incomplete or looks wrong
- The image stops at the visible viewport: confirm that you chose Save full page in Firefox or Capture full page in Edge. In Chrome, use Capture node screenshot, not Capture area screenshot.
- Chrome captures only part of the page: the selected node may be a content section rather than the page-level element. Recheck the selected item in Elements before taking the node screenshot.
- A menu option or shortcut is missing: browser controls can vary by version, device, market or configuration. Try the browser’s page context menu or settings menu, and consult the browser’s own help for the installed version.
- Images or other content are absent: some pages load content as you scroll or after a delay. A capture can reflect what has rendered at that moment; the documentation does not guarantee identical results on every site. Allow the page to finish loading and, if appropriate, scroll through it before capturing.
- A carousel, video or other moving item looks unexpected: a screenshot records a moment, not motion. Repeat the capture when the desired frame or state is visible; the exact result depends on the page and timing.
- The PDF breaks awkwardly or looks simplified: print layout is separate from screen layout. Adjust print settings or try Immersive Reader if the site supports it; if visual fidelity matters more than pagination, take a full-page image instead.
Automating captures with Chrome Headless
For technical users, Chrome Headless documents a --screenshot flag, configurable --window-size and --timeout options, as well as a separate --print-to-pdf route. These options are useful when a browser-based manual workflow needs to run from a command line, but the installed Chrome executable name and launch setup can differ across systems. Consult the Chrome Headless reference for the exact invocation supported by your environment. A timeout or viewport setting does not ensure every website’s lazy-loaded or interactive content has appeared; verify the output for the pages you automate.
For recurring jobs, plan around the possibility of slow, failed or changing pages. Set an appropriate wait for your use case, save outputs under predictable names, and inspect a sample when page markup or content changes. Do not treat screenshots of dynamic pages as a stable, pixel-identical record unless the site state and capture conditions are controlled.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I capture only a particular part of a webpage?
Yes. Edge offers a selected-area capture, and Chrome DevTools has Capture area screenshot. In Chrome, Capture node screenshot can also capture a selected element. These produce a region or element capture rather than the entire page.
Does a full-page screenshot include content that appears only after scrolling?
It depends on how the site loads that content and what has rendered during capture. The browser guidance does not promise that every lazy-loaded or interactive element will appear, so inspect the result and load the relevant content first when needed.
Can I save a browser screenshot as PDF?
A browser’s screenshot tool produces an image capture. To create a PDF document, use the browser’s Print workflow and select a PDF destination; page breaks and print formatting may differ from the screen.
