Remove unwanted duplicate entries from the source playlist; then set looping and shuffle separately to get the playback behavior you want. A loop restarts playback, and shuffle changes order—neither removes duplicate entries.
Find out why a video is appearing again
“Duplicate” can mean two different things: the same video or file is present multiple times in the playlist, or the player has intentionally returned to a video because of its repeat settings. Check the list and the playback mode before changing settings.

- If the video appears as two separate entries: remove the unwanted entry from the playlist or media list that feeds playback.
- If it appears once in the list but plays again: check whether the player is repeating the current video or the whole playlist.
- If playback is shuffled: remember that a different order is not duplicate removal. A repeated entry can still be played in a shuffled list.
If you are watching a YouTube playlist
YouTube has separate controls for looping a playlist and repeating only the video currently playing. Confirm which mode is active before concluding that the playlist contains a duplicate.
Desktop
Use the playlist’s Loop control to turn playlist looping on or off. If a video returns after the playlist reaches its end, check whether looping is enabled.

Android
Tap the Loop control once to loop the playlist. Tapping it a second time enables repeat for the current video; a “1” indicates that single-video repeat is active. If just one video keeps returning, turn off that mode.
TVs and gaming consoles
Check the repeat option shown for the playlist. YouTube distinguishes Repeat • Playlist from Repeat • Currently playing; choose the mode that matches your intent.

Remove an actual duplicate entry
If the same video is listed twice, remove one of the entries from the playlist itself. The YouTube Help guidance on loop controls does not establish current YouTube Studio steps for deleting duplicate playlist entries, so use the playlist’s current editing controls rather than relying on an assumed menu path.

If OBS is playing a local playlist
OBS’s VLC Video Source plays a playlist using VLC libraries, so VLC must be installed. In the source’s properties, Loop Playlist controls whether playback restarts after the media list runs out; Shuffle Playlist controls whether the file order is randomized. OBS documentation lists Loop Playlist as on and Shuffle Playlist as off by default.

- Open the OBS scene containing the VLC Video Source.
- Open that source’s properties and inspect the playlist entries for repeated files or URLs.
- Remove any unwanted repeated entry from the list.
- Set Loop Playlist according to whether playback should restart after the final item.
- Set Shuffle Playlist according to whether you want randomized order. Leave it off for the listed order.
Turning off Loop Playlist prevents the list from restarting after its final item; it does not remove duplicates already in the list. Shuffle changes order, not membership.
If you control an embedded YouTube player
The YouTube IFrame Player API provides setLoop and setShuffle for playlist playback. Looping returns playback to the beginning after the final video. Shuffling changes playlist order, not its entries, so it is not a duplicate-removal function.

The API documentation also notes that calling shuffle after playback starts reorders the list while the current video continues, and shuffling an already shuffled list shuffles it again. If a video is repeated because it occurs more than once in the playlist, clean up the playlist rather than relying on player settings.

If your setup plays uploaded videos continuously as a YouTube live stream, inspect the playlist or media list that supplies those videos. Remove repeated entries there, then choose whether the source should loop at the end and whether playback should be shuffled. Those choices are separate from duplicate cleanup.

Also make sure you have the rights needed to use every video and audio track in a live broadcast. A technically clean playlist does not establish permission to stream its contents, and duplicate-removal settings do not address copyright or YouTube’s other content rules.
