Find the layer where the silence begins: listen to the exported audio file across its loop point, check whether the playback source is still sending audio to OBS, then review YouTube’s stream health if OBS still shows an active signal. A continuous-looking fireplace video can still have a gap in its audio; each layer needs a different fix.
1. Check whether the audio file itself has a gap
Play the exported ambience file locally through several end-to-start transitions. Listen to the audio, not just the fireplace video. If the quiet interval occurs at the same point on each replay, the gap is in the asset or its loop boundary—not something a streaming setting can remove.
Edit and audition the boundary
- Open the exported audio in an editor and inspect the end and beginning of the loop.
- Adjust the boundary or prepare a version with a smoother transition. A crossfade is one possible editing approach, but there is no universally correct duration established for this problem.
- Export the revised file and replay it across several transitions before using it in the stream.
Do not assume a particular editor, crossfade length, or timing rule is required by OBS or YouTube. The important test is whether the exported file sounds continuous when it repeats.
2. Check the playback source and OBS audio meter
If the local file sounds continuous, play it through the same source and configuration used for the stream. Watch OBS’s audio input meter as playback reaches the end of one pass and starts the next. OBS explains that a missing input indicator means no audio is reaching OBS. Possible causes include waiting for file playback or a disconnected audio interface. - If the meter drops at the transition, check that the media source is playing and configured to repeat, and verify that its signal reaches the intended OBS audio channel.
- If the meter remains active, listen to the OBS output or recording if available. A moving meter indicates signal, not necessarily clean, continuous audio.
3. Review YouTube stream health and audio configuration
If OBS continues to show audio but viewers hear silence, inspect YouTube’s stream health and the ingest configuration. YouTube’s LiveStreams API documents audio issue codes and health states that can identify problems such as no audio stream, an unsupported audio codec, a sample-rate mismatch, or multiple audio streams. For a YouTube HLS ingest, YouTube Help lists AAC, AC3, and EAC3 as audio codec options and recommends a 44.1 kHz sample rate for stereo or 48 kHz for 5.1 audio. These are HLS-specific requirements and recommendations: match your actual ingest protocol and current YouTube guidance rather than applying HLS settings to a different protocol. 4. Treat HLS settings as delivery settings, not a loop repair
HLS divides media into segments and uses a playlist to specify their order. YouTube Help specifies segment durations between 1 and 4 seconds and a rolling playlist with no more than 5 outstanding segments. Those values help with HLS delivery and compatibility; they do not make a silent audio-file boundary seamless. The first two diagnoses are practical troubleshooting inferences. Exact behavior depends on the file, playback application, encoder, and stream protocol; neither a moving meter nor a continuous picture alone proves viewers are receiving uninterrupted audio.
