To stop a 24/7 sleep ambience livestream from showing the same clip, configure playback in the software sending the video to YouTube. In OBS, use a Media Source with Loop for one file, or a VLC Video Source with Loop Playlist for multiple files. Turn on Shuffle Playlist if you want the clips in randomized order. YouTube’s viewer-side Loop control does not change what OBS sends to a live stream.
Choose the right OBS source for your ambience videos

Loop one sleep ambience video in OBS
- Open OBS and select the scene that supplies the visuals for your livestream.
- In the Sources box, select + and choose Media Source.
- Name the source if desired, then select OK.
- In the Media Source properties, choose the local video file you want to play.
- Enable Loop, then select OK.
- Check the preview and let the clip reach its end. It should restart from the beginning.
OBS describes Loop as specifying whether the file plays again after playback has completed. It controls the media source in the outgoing scene; it is not a YouTube player setting.

Rotate multiple videos with a looping playlist
- Install VLC on the computer running OBS. The VLC Video Source requires VLC to be installed.
- Confirm the architectures match. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC.
- In OBS, select the scene, then choose + in Sources and select VLC Video Source.
- Create or select the source, then add your local ambience video files to its playlist.
- Enable Loop Playlist so playback returns to the playlist after its last file.
- Enable Shuffle Playlist if you want randomized file ordering rather than the listed sequence.
- Confirm the source preview shows the intended clips, then monitor playback through a full playlist cycle if practical.
Shuffle randomizes the playlist order; OBS’s documentation does not promise that it prevents every adjacent repeat. If avoiding a particular back-to-back pairing matters, curate and test your playlist rather than relying on shuffle as a strict no-repeat guarantee. OBS Media Sources documentation.

Why YouTube’s Loop button does not fix a live stream
YouTube’s Loop control repeats playback for a viewer watching a video or playlist on YouTube. It does not alter the feed your encoder sends during a live broadcast. The live picture is determined by the active encoder scene and its media sources, so configure repetition in OBS. YouTube explains its viewer-side playback controls in its video and playlist playback help.
Looping a file is not the same as keeping a stream online
Loop and Loop Playlist describe what OBS plays while the source and software are running. They do not establish 24/7 uptime or recovery after a power loss, computer crash, or internet outage. OBS’s media documentation explains playback behavior, not an uptime guarantee. A continuous local setup also depends on the computer, OBS, and network remaining available.

Your YouTube stream key is the credential OBS uses to send the feed to YouTube. YouTube compares it to a stream password: keep it private, and do not show it in a screen capture or share it with someone you do not trust. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.

Troubleshoot a clip that still repeats or stops
- The same file keeps playing: Check whether the source is a single Media Source. That setup loops one file by design; use a VLC Video Source playlist if you want different clips.
- The playlist stops at the end: Open the VLC Video Source properties and verify Loop Playlist is enabled.
- Only one clip appears in the playlist: Add the other local files to the VLC Video Source playlist and confirm their paths still point to available files.
- The VLC source is missing or unavailable: Install VLC, and make sure its architecture matches OBS. For 64-bit OBS, use 64-bit VLC.
- Playback follows the list rather than varying: Enable Shuffle Playlist. This randomizes order but does not guarantee that a clip will never follow itself.
- Viewers still see the same video: Confirm the intended OBS scene is live and that its source is the playlist you configured. Clicking Loop in YouTube’s player affects viewer playback, not the encoder feed.
- The stream disappears after a computer or connection problem: A media loop only controls playback while OBS is operating. Check the computer, OBS, and network separately, or use a cloud option if avoiding dependence on a running home setup is the goal.
Keep ambience content eligible and safe to stream
Looping a video does not grant permission to use its music, visuals, or other material. Use recordings and audio you own or are authorized to broadcast, and check YouTube’s applicable live-stream and copyright requirements before going live. Repeating content also does not guarantee monetization; YouTube evaluates channel content under its policies. Review the current YouTube channel monetization policies and the YouTube live streaming restrictions for the rules that apply to your channel.
