Use the arrow keys or on-screen arrows to move between slides; press Esc to exit. To keep speaker notes and presenter controls available, select the arrow beside Slideshow and choose Presenter view.
Present a Google Slides file on a computer
- Open the presentation in Google Slides. Google recommends Chrome for best results.
- Select Slideshow at the top right to start the full-screen presentation.
- Move forward or backward with the keyboard arrow keys or the on-screen arrows.
- Press Esc when you want to stop presenting and leave full-screen mode.
Google’s computer presentation instructions also cover selecting a slide from a list, printing, downloading as PDF or PPTX, and opening Presenter view.

Show speaker notes and presenter controls
Select the arrow next to Slideshow, choose Presenter view, then open Speaker notes. Notes are for the presenter, not the audience screen. Google Docs Editors Help puts it this way: “A presentation doesn’t display speaker notes, but it’s available to the presenter.”
Presenter view and a full-screen audience presentation cannot run at the same time on a single monitor. If you have multiple displays, use the display options to choose which screen shows the presentation; Chrome may ask permission to use multi-display support.

Useful keyboard controls
- Arrow keys: move between slides.
- Esc: stop presenting.
- Enter a slide number, then press Enter: jump to that slide.
- Home or End: go to the first or last slide.
- s: open speaker notes.
- a: open audience tools.
Some shortcuts vary by operating system; consult Google’s screen-reader and keyboard instructions for relevant details.
Use automatic slide advance, a laser pointer, or audience tools
Set slides to advance automatically
Use the presentation toolbar’s options to select an automatic-advance interval. Google cautions that automatic-advance settings should be reset each time you present, so check them before starting a new slideshow.

Open the presentation controls while presenting and select the laser pointer option to point out details on a slide.

Invite audience questions
- On a computer, select the arrow beside Slideshow and choose Presenter view.
- In the new window, open Audience tools.
- Select Start new or Continue recent.
Viewers can use the Q&A link to submit questions and vote. You can display a selected question or hide it. For work, school, or other managed accounts, an organization may control who is allowed to submit questions. See Google’s audience-question instructions.

Present from an Android phone or iPhone
In either mobile app, open the presentation, tap Present, then choose Present on this device. Swipe left or right to move through slides.

Chromecast and AirPlay-compatible receivers are optional ways to show slides on a television; they are not required for an ordinary computer slideshow. Google’s cited help pages do not specify a current receiver model or its availability.

Turn on captions while presenting
Google Slides captions work with the latest versions of Chrome, Edge, and Safari. The documented setup requires a working microphone and an internet connection.
- Turn on the computer’s microphone and start presenting.
- Open More options in the presentation controls.
- Select Captions preferences and turn captions on.
Slides captions transcribe the presenter’s voice, not other audio from a meeting. When slides are shared through meeting software such as Meet, the captions can appear on the shared screen. Caption quality depends on the audio input, including accent, voice modulation, and intonation; Google cautions that captions may not provide a complete or accurate transcript. An organization administrator may disable captions. The microphone and captions may turn off after 30 minutes without computer activity. See Google’s captions instructions.

Choose the presentation setup for your audience
- Audience watching the same computer: use Slideshow for a full-screen presentation.
- You need notes or presenter controls: use Presenter view; use a second display if the audience also needs a full-screen view at the same time.
- Audience watching on a TV: use a documented casting or mirroring route supported by your phone, tablet, and receiver.
- Audience joining remotely: present to Google Meet or share the presentation through your meeting setup.
