Prepare a clear, accurate thumbnail
Make the product easy to recognize at a glance. WhatsApp’s product-photo guidance recommends a high-resolution, simple, clear image, a plain light background, and even lighting; it also advises avoiding screenshots. Cropping can help keep attention on the product, but retain enough context to identify the actual variant.
- Keep the product prominent and fully visible where possible; do not crop away a feature that distinguishes the model, size, color, or bundle.
- Use an image with enough detail to remain clear when displayed small. The cited guidance does not specify a universal pixel dimension or aspect ratio.
- Do not add badges, claims, or logos that could mislead customers about the product or its relationship to a brand.
- If you take a replacement photo, use even lighting and a plain light background. A light box is optional, not necessary when an authorized image is already suitable.
Meta’s brand guidance says official WhatsApp logos should be used only as provided, not modified, and not in a way that implies partnership or endorsement. A product thumbnail should represent the product rather than add WhatsApp branding that could confuse customers.

Add the image to the WhatsApp catalog item
- In the WhatsApp Business catalog interface, open the option to add or edit a product or service, then select the image upload control.
- Choose the authorized, prepared image. The current Help Center instructions retrieved for this article allow up to 10 images per item; check the current interface because limits can change.
- Enter a unique title and the product’s country of origin. The catalog instructions identify these, along with at least one image displaying the product or service, as required entry details.
- Add optional details as appropriate: price, sale price, description, website link, and product code.
- Save or submit the item, then wait for review. Check how the approved item appears in the live catalog on a device before sharing it; preview checking is sensible workflow, not a documented universal display requirement.
Understand review and visibility
Catalog media is reviewed against WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy. Customers cannot see an item while it is pending review, and a rejected item is not shown. If an item is rejected, follow the current in-app process to address the issue or appeal when appropriate. Creating a compliant crop does not guarantee approval: the product and listing must also meet applicable commerce rules.
