Prepare for Vera Rubin NVL72 by measuring your actual inference workload before choosing precision, parallelism, or a serving stack. Record representative prompts, output lengths, concurrency, latency and quality targets; establish a baseline; then test the intended software configuration and scale it under the same traffic. NVIDIA’s published preview results are useful reference points, not guarantees for a different model or deployment.
What Vera Rubin NVL72 changes about workload planning
NVIDIA describes Vera Rubin NVL72 as a rack-scale system with 72 Rubin GPUs and 36 Vera CPUs. NVLink 6 connects the GPUs for scale-up within the rack; ConnectX-9 SuperNICs and BlueField-4 DPUs are part of the system, while Quantum-X800 InfiniBand or Spectrum-X Ethernet provide scale-out networking. That means readiness planning needs to consider both communication within a rack and the network and orchestration used across racks.

NVIDIA presents NVL72 as part of a broader agentic AI platform that can be paired with CPU, storage, networking, or Groq 3 LPX racks. Those are possible platform components, not requirements for every inference deployment. NVIDIA also describes CUDA backward compatibility and CUDA-X libraries and communication tools including NCCL and NIXL. Treat that as a reason to inventory your current software, not proof that every framework, kernel, driver, or library version will work unchanged on the system you deploy.
1. Characterize the workload you actually serve
Build a representative workload profile from production traces or a carefully designed replay. An average prompt length is not enough: distributions, peaks, and combinations of request types can change the best serving configuration.

- Models: record architecture, size, model mix, and any model-specific serving or parallelism requirements.
- Requests: capture prompt and output token distributions, context lengths, arrival patterns, concurrency, and the mix of short and long requests.
- Session behavior: include multi-turn or long-context sessions if they are material to the service.
- Service objectives: define targets for time to first token, inter-token latency, end-to-end latency, and throughput at expected load.
- Quality: choose evaluation data and a minimum acceptable quality level before testing lower precision or other optimizations.
Keep the workload profile and evaluation set stable across comparisons. Otherwise, a faster result may simply reflect shorter outputs, easier prompts, or a different request mix.
2. Establish a baseline before changing the stack
Measure the existing serving configuration under the representative workload. Record quality alongside performance so that an apparent throughput improvement cannot conceal an unacceptable output change.
- Time to first token, inter-token latency, and end-to-end latency, including tail behavior relevant to your service objectives.
- Throughput at the target latency and quality levels, not only peak throughput.
- GPU utilization and memory use while serving the workload.
- Energy or cost per useful output, using the same definition of a useful output throughout the comparison.
Retain the model, traffic replay, evaluation set, and measurement method for each subsequent test. Include steady-state and burst behavior: a configuration that handles sustained load may behave differently when requests arrive in spikes.

1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3. Inventory software and test optimization choices
List CUDA and framework versions, custom kernels, quantization methods, communication libraries, serving and orchestration components, and operational tooling. NVIDIA says the Vera Rubin platform maintains CUDA backward compatibility, but the exact combination still needs validation on the target system.
NVIDIA’s September 16, 2026 MLPerf Inference v6.1 preview report used vLLM with NVIDIA Dynamo for Qwen3-VL and TensorRT-LLM for DeepSeek-R1. It also describes NVFP4, disaggregated prefill and decode, and expert parallelism in its preview submissions. These examples identify configurations worth testing; they do not establish that the same choices will suit another model or traffic profile.

Compare software paths only where the framework supports the target model and deployment. Test each with the same prompts, quality checks, latency objectives, and load. Do not infer an optimization’s effect from its name or from a different model’s benchmark.
4. Measure rack and cluster scaling
NVLink 6 defines the within-rack scale-up domain; deployments spanning racks also rely on the selected scale-out fabric and request orchestration. Benchmark the actual configuration as GPUs or racks are added, keeping the workload and acceptance criteria fixed. Track throughput and latency alongside resource use so you can see whether additional capacity produces useful scaling rather than simply increasing the system count.
NVIDIA’s MLPerf article itself emphasizes that GPU count alone does not establish proportional throughput gains. Its discussion of inference economics points to the combination of performance per system, scaling efficiency, and software optimization. Record all three for your workload instead of extrapolating from device count.
5. Plan facility readiness with the system supplier
NVIDIA’s 2026 technical article describes warm-water, single-phase direct liquid cooling for Vera Rubin NVL72, with a 45°C supply temperature. This is a vendor-described design characteristic, not a complete site acceptance specification. The available information does not establish exact rack power requirements or a facility acceptance checklist.
Before committing to deployment, verify the proposed system and site design together with the supplier. Resolve power delivery, heat rejection, water-loop compatibility, network topology, service access, monitoring, and who owns day-to-day operations. Do not treat the 45°C figure as a substitute for the cooling-system and facility requirements for the specific configuration.

6. Read vendor performance figures in context
In its September 16, 2026 MLPerf Inference v6.1 article, NVIDIA reported up to 3.7x higher throughput than GB300 NVL72 on Qwen3-VL across offline, server, and interactive scenarios, using vLLM with NVIDIA Dynamo. For DeepSeek-R1 using TensorRT-LLM, it reported up to 2.5x higher throughput. These are NVIDIA-reported preview results for the named models, frameworks, and benchmark scenarios; the report notes that continued software work can change results. They are not independently established outcomes for arbitrary deployments.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →NVIDIA’s product information also describes up to 10x more tokens per megawatt versus GB200 NVL72 for a specific Kimi-K2-Thinking comparison using 32K input and 8K output tokens, and describes one-tenth the cost per million tokens for that named setup. NVIDIA labels performance subject to change. Those conditional vendor comparisons are not general estimates of savings or efficiency for another model, sequence length, utilization level, or facility.
For your own acceptance benchmark, report model, prompt and output lengths, framework and precision, traffic shape, quality result, latency objective, and whether the result is steady-state or burst. Keep vendor preview figures separate from your measured acceptance results.
7. Compare deployment routes on measured fit
A rack purchase, cloud or managed inference service, and OEM integration shift different burdens between the operator and provider. The reviewed information does not establish current cloud regions, rental pricing, OEM delivery schedules, or generally available Vera Rubin capacity. NVIDIA names Nebius as a preview submitter, but that does not prove that rental capacity is generally available or establish commercial terms.
| Route | Questions to resolve |
|---|---|
| Buy and operate a rack | Can the facility support the system and cooling design? What staffing, service access, network topology, and utilization are required for acceptable total cost? |
| Cloud or managed inference | Is the exact capacity available in the needed geography and timeframe? What are the workload fit, data and control terms, measured latency and throughput, and total cost at intended utilization? |
| OEM integration or deployment support | What configuration and operational support are included? Confirm availability, lead time, facility responsibilities, topology, measured performance, and total cost directly with the provider. |
Use the same representative workload and acceptance test when comparing routes. A benchmark appearance or partner relationship is not evidence of orderability, service availability, or a price.
