For a productive weekly PvP session in WoW: Forever, plan around two separate progress tracks: earn Honor to spend on PvP gear, and earn Rank Points to advance through rank rewards. Before you queue, check the season’s weekly tasks, pick a specific rank or gear goal, and use the PvP tab in the Character Pane to track progress. Blizzard’s official guidance does not establish a weekly Rank Point cap, reset time, or best activity by Honor-per-hour, so build your plan around visible tasks and rewards rather than assumptions imported from another version of WoW.
Understand what your PvP progress is counting
Honor and Rank Points serve different purposes. Blizzard describes Honor as a currency earned through PvP. You spend it on PvP gear, including blue-quality and epic-quality sets. Rank Points, by contrast, advance your character through ranks and their associated rewards. Earning one does not substitute for earning the other: keep track of the currency you can spend and the progression that moves your rank separately.

This distinction changes how to judge a session. If you want gear, Honor is the immediate resource to watch. If you are working toward a rank reward, your relevant progress is Rank Points and whether you have reached the rank that makes the reward available. A session can support both goals, but the two measures are not interchangeable. It is possible to make progress on both tracks during PvP, but do not treat an Honor balance as proof of rank progress or a rank increase as a gear purchase.
Choose a reward, not just a vague target
The rank ladder has staged rewards. Blizzard’s official progression guide lists a tabard at Rank 1, a PvP trinket at Rank 2, cloaks at Rank 3, a necklace at Rank 4, combat potions at Rank 5, and a battle standard at Rank 7. Later milestones include epic armor upgrade rewards, a mount, and epic weapons at Rank 14. Blizzard’s guide describes 14 ranks in total. That gives you a practical way to set a goal: identify the next reward that matters to your character, then make rank progression the focus of the session.

Not every milestone has the same value for every character. A player interested in an early utility reward may have a different short-term target from someone pursuing the mount, epic armor upgrades, or the Rank 14 weapons. Choose a reward that is relevant to your character and your play horizon, rather than chasing a rank only because it is the next number on the ladder. If a reward is several steps away, a bounded goal—such as checking progress after a planned set of activities—is more useful than promising yourself you will reach it in one week.
Do not assume every listed reward is your next step or that reaching a rank means every purchase condition has been met. Check the PvP tab for your current rank and the rewards available for purchase at that rank. Blizzard’s guide establishes the reward milestones, but it does not provide a complete item-by-item cost or eligibility table. That means you should not budget a specific Honor amount based on an assumed price, or assume that a higher-quality set has the same purchase conditions as the blue-quality set. Use the in-game display to check the current options and costs before spending.
Check the season journey before you queue
Seasonal weekly tasks are a useful planning layer because completing them grants both Honor and Rank Points. Three tasks each season also grant a Legacy Point. Review the season journey before choosing your activities, then prioritize tasks that fit the battlegrounds, quests, or player-versus-player combat you were already prepared to do. This keeps your session connected to a defined objective instead of relying on an assumed universal farming route.
The three-task Legacy Point condition is worth keeping in view when you plan across a season: it is tied to completing three tasks in that season, rather than being another name for Honor or Rank Points. The official guide does not say that Legacy Points replace either of those progression tracks. Track the task requirement separately and check the journey’s display to see which tasks count toward it and what remains.
Blizzard says these tasks remain available to complete in future seasons because they are tied to the Legacy System. If you miss one during a given week, do not automatically treat it as permanently lost: check the season journey in a later season to see whether it is still available. The official source does not specify a reset schedule or guarantee when a particular task will appear, so use the in-game journey as the authority for what your character can complete. Flexibility does not mean every task is necessarily available at every moment; verify it in the game.
Turn the task list into a session plan
- Read the task objectives first. Note which activities the tasks actually call for; do not infer that every PvP activity advances every task.
- Look for overlap. If a task aligns with a battleground or PvP quest you already want to play, make that activity part of your plan.
- Separate task completion from your broader goal. A task may award Honor and Rank Points, but your longer-term gear or rank objective may still require additional progress. Treat the task as a concrete session objective, not a guarantee that the larger goal is finished.
- Set a bounded goal. Decide which task or next reward you want to pursue in this session, rather than treating “grind PvP” as an unlimited objective.
- Leave room to recheck. After you make progress, review the journey again to confirm what has completed and what remains.
Use the PvP tab to establish your baseline
Before your first queue, open the Character Pane with the default C hotkey and select the PvP tab. Review your current rank, Rank Points, and the rewards available for purchase at your current rank. This is the clearest in-game starting point described by Blizzard’s official guide, and it helps you connect a session goal to the character’s actual progression.

- Open the Character Pane by pressing C (unless you have changed the key binding).
- Select the PvP tab.
- Record or note your current rank and Rank Points.
- Check which rank rewards are currently available for purchase.
- Choose one next reward, seasonal task, or limited progression target for the session.
If you have customized your key bindings, use the binding you assigned to the Character Pane instead of assuming the default key still applies. The point is to begin from your displayed status, not from a remembered cap, rank estimate, or rule from another version of the game.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsA simple baseline makes your end-of-session review more informative. Note the rank and Rank Points shown before you start, then return to the same PvP tab later. That lets you check the displayed change without guessing from memory. This is a personal tracking habit, not a substitute for the game’s progression display, and it does not reveal an official rate or a predictable amount of progress per hour.
Choose an activity based on fit, not an unverified efficiency claim
Blizzard identifies three Honor sources: defeating other players, completing battlegrounds, and finishing relevant PvP quests. Highlighted battlegrounds during holiday weeks grant increased Honor. Those facts let you identify legitimate options, but the official guide does not publish numerical Honor rates or a comparison that proves one activity is the fastest farm. Queue order and expected time-to-reward therefore cannot be ranked reliably from the published figures.
| Activity | What Blizzard’s official guidance establishes | How to use it in a weekly plan |
|---|---|---|
| Defeating other players | Player kills are a source of Honor. | Include player combat when it fits your play session and any relevant task. No numeric rate is published. |
| Completing battlegrounds | Battleground completion is a source of Honor. | Check whether a seasonal task or highlighted battleground makes a battleground a good fit for your current goal. |
| Completing relevant PvP quests | Relevant PvP quests are a source of Honor. | Review available quests and use them when their objectives align with your plan. |
| Highlighted battleground holiday week | Blizzard says highlighted battlegrounds during holiday weeks grant increased Honor. | Treat the highlight as an additional reason to consider that battleground, not proof of a specific Honor-per-hour advantage. |
When choosing among these options, weigh the task match, the time you have, your preference, and whether a battleground is highlighted. Those are useful decision factors; they are not a published efficiency formula. If you want to compare your own sessions, note the activities you completed and check your displayed progress afterward, but do not generalize a single session into an official rate.
For example, if a seasonal task points you toward a battleground and that battleground is highlighted for increased Honor, the two facts make it a natural option to consider: it appears to fit the task and carries the stated holiday-week Honor increase. They still do not tell you how long a match will take, whether queues will be available immediately, or how its total Honor compares with your other options. If you have limited time or prefer questing, a relevant PvP quest may be a better personal fit even though no published comparison establishes it as faster.

A practical weekly routine
1. Start with the character’s current status
Open the PvP tab and check rank, Rank Points, and currently available rank rewards. Set an objective you can evaluate when you stop: for example, work toward a particular rank reward or complete a task that supports Honor and Rank Point progress. Do not invent a numerical weekly target if you do not know the applicable cap. If the next rank reward is not immediately within reach, choose a smaller checkpoint and record your starting status.

2. Review tasks and choose compatible activities
Look through the season journey’s weekly tasks. Select objectives that overlap with activities you are willing to play, and make a short plan from those matches. A battleground task, a relevant PvP quest, or a highlighted battleground may influence your choice; the plan should follow what is actually displayed for your character. If a task is not available or its requirement is unclear, do not build your whole session around an assumption—check the journey and choose another visible objective.
3. Play the activities that serve the goal
Queue for battlegrounds, complete relevant PvP quests, or take part in player combat as appropriate to your tasks and preferred play. If a highlighted battleground is active, consider it for its increased Honor. Because Blizzard does not publish comparative rates in the official guide, there is no evidence-based universal sequence such as “always quest first” or “always queue for this mode.” Choose what fits your objectives and available play time instead of following a made-up efficiency order.
4. Recheck both tracks before spending or stopping
Return to the PvP tab and review Rank Points and rank rewards. Keep the Rank Point check separate from your Honor balance: one tells you about rank progression, the other is currency for gear. Before spending Honor, confirm what rewards your current rank makes available and whether that purchase supports your gear goal. If you have not reached the rank tied to a desired reward, an Honor balance alone does not establish that the reward is available.
For a simple weekly log, note your starting and ending rank display, the tasks you completed, and whether you made an Honor purchase. This is useful for planning your next session and remembering which activity you chose; it does not establish an official rate, cap, or schedule. Keep the log descriptive rather than using it to promise yourself a fixed result next week.
5. Carry unfinished tasks forward carefully
If you did not finish a task, check the season journey in a later season. Blizzard says tasks remain completable in future seasons through the Legacy System. Use the displayed journey to confirm the task’s current availability rather than assuming either that it expired permanently or that every task is available at every moment. If it remains available, you can consider it when planning a later session; if it is not shown as available, do not assume a specific return date.
Keep caps, resets, and other WoW versions out of your plan
Do not build a schedule around Retail WoW’s Conquest or Arena caps, or around the historical honor ladder in WoW Classic. The official WoW: Forever progression guide describes Honor and Rank Points, but it does not establish the exact Forever weekly cap, weekly reset day or time, season duration, or detailed numeric Honor rates. Those details should be confirmed in current, version-specific official information before you use them to set a deadline or estimate a grind.

This is especially important if you are returning from another WoW version. A familiar term such as “weekly cap” may tempt you to import a remembered number or reset day; that would not be supported by Blizzard’s Forever guide. For a practical session, rely on the character’s PvP tab and season journey for displayed progress and task availability, and avoid promising yourself a specific rate or reset-based outcome that the current official information has not established.

The same caution applies to planning around a season’s length or assuming that a missed task disappears at a particular weekly reset. The official progression article says tasks remain completable in future seasons, but does not give a precise calendar, reset hour, or a guaranteed availability window for each individual task. Use the game’s current screens to decide what to do now, and avoid making a weekly schedule depend on an unstated deadline.

- Check the Character Pane’s PvP tab for your rank, Rank Points, and available rewards.
- Choose a rank reward, gear objective, or bounded progression goal.
- Review weekly seasonal tasks and identify activities that overlap with them.
- Keep the three seasonal tasks associated with a Legacy Point in view, without confusing it with Honor or Rank Points.
- Consider battlegrounds, relevant PvP quests, and player combat as Honor sources.
- Check whether a highlighted battleground holiday week offers increased Honor.
- Track Honor and Rank Points separately, and verify your progress before spending.
- If you miss a task, check the season journey in a future season instead of assuming it is gone.
- Do not rely on an assumed Forever cap, reset time, or Honor-per-hour estimate.
Blizzard’s official article, “How PvP Progression in World of Warcraft: Forever Works,” is the source for the mechanics and reward milestones above. Blizzard’s search result did not surface a publication date for that article, so a date cannot be assigned here. The practical rule is to use its stated distinction between Honor and Rank Points, then verify current task availability and purchase options in game.
Frequently Asked Questions
What should I do each week for PvP in WoW: Forever?
Start by checking your rank, Rank Points, and currently available rewards in the Character Pane’s PvP tab. Review the season journey, pick a task or reward goal, and choose activities that fit it. Recheck Rank Points and Honor separately when you stop.
Is Honor the same as Rank Points?
No. Honor is a currency earned through PvP and spent on PvP gear, including blue-quality and epic-quality sets. Rank Points advance your rank and its staged rewards. One does not replace the other.

Where can I see my rank and Rank Points?
Open the Character Pane, normally with the C key, and select the PvP tab. It shows your current rank, Rank Points, and rewards available for purchase at your current rank.
Is there a weekly Rank Point cap or reset time?
The official WoW: Forever progression guide does not establish a numerical weekly Rank Point cap, reset day or time, season duration, or detailed Honor rates. Do not assume Retail or Classic rules apply; check current, version-specific official information for schedule details.
