As of October 4, 2026, the new Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Mega Dimension bundle is scheduled for release on October 29, 2026. It combines the Switch 2 Edition and Mega Dimension DLC. The original game is already available: it launched on October 16, 2025. Which version to order depends chiefly on your console, whether you own the game, and whether you want a physical game card.
Which Pokémon Legends: Z-A edition should you buy?
| Your situation | Best fit | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| You have a Nintendo Switch 2 and want the game plus Mega Dimension together | Switch 2 Edition + Mega Dimension bundle | The bundle includes both products’ content. Its physical version puts the game and DLC on one game card. |
| You already own the Nintendo Switch game and want to play the Switch 2 Edition | Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack | Nintendo says owners of either a digital or physical Switch copy can purchase an upgrade pack. Check the current price in your regional store before comparing it with the bundle. |
| You own the base game and only want the expansion | Mega Dimension DLC | The DLC requires a copy of Pokémon Legends: Z-A loaded as a physical game card or virtual game card. |
| You play on the original Nintendo Switch | Original Nintendo Switch game | The newly announced bundle is a Switch 2 product; it is not the right choice for an original Switch console. |
How to preorder the 2026 Switch 2 bundle
- Confirm your console. The announced bundle is for Nintendo Switch 2. If you have an original Switch, choose the original Switch game instead.
- Choose physical or digital. Nintendo lists a physical version of the bundle, with the game and DLC on one game card. Check the product details on your chosen retailer’s current listing to confirm the format.
- Check your country’s storefront or retailer. The bundle is scheduled for October 29, 2026, but preorder availability, price, shipping, taxes, and promotional terms vary by market and retailer. A Nintendo US store listing does not establish availability elsewhere.
- Review the listing before paying. Verify that it names the Switch 2 Edition + Mega Dimension bundle, shows the correct format and seller, and states any bonus and its eligibility terms. Stock and offers can change.
Nintendo’s US store listing says purchases of the physical bundle include an insert with a code for 100 Ultra Balls. Treat that as a US-listing bonus, not a guaranteed offer at every retailer or in every country; confirm the current listing and terms when ordering. The announced release date is October 29, 2026, according to The Pokémon Company and Nintendo’s US store.

Should you buy the bundle or upgrade an existing copy?
If you already own the Switch game
Nintendo says owners of the original Nintendo Switch game—digital or physical—can purchase an upgrade pack for the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. The cited release information does not establish the upgrade pack’s current price. Check your regional Nintendo store, then compare that amount with the price of the bundle; do not assume upgrading or rebuying is cheaper without current prices.
If you do not own the game
The bundle is the straightforward option if you want both the Switch 2 Edition and Mega Dimension. If you prefer separate digital purchases, compare the regional prices for the Switch 2 Edition and DLC before buying. The bundle’s confirmed content is the same as purchasing those two products separately, while its physical version puts both on one game card.
#1 Best Overall
- Your journey will take you to all manner of sights in the streets arrayed around Prism Tower, including shops, restaurants, and places called wild zones—where Pokémon roam free.
- As you catch, train, and battle Pokémon, there will be plenty of people to meet too—like AZ, the enigmatic owner of Hotel Z.
The original game and its Switch 2 Edition launched October 16, 2025, according to The Pokémon Company. That launch date is historical; the upcoming item is the separate bundle scheduled for October 29, 2026.
What to know before buying Mega Dimension by itself
Mega Dimension is downloadable content, not a standalone game. Nintendo Support says you need Pokémon Legends: Z-A on the system to play it; the base game may be loaded from a physical game card or virtual game card. If you do not already own the base game, choose a game edition as well as the DLC. See Nintendo Support’s Mega Dimension requirements.

Are older preorder bonuses still available?
Do not assume a gift announced for the original 2025 release applies to the 2026 bundle. Pokémon’s earlier preorder announcement concerned the original game and a Pokémon Center gift; it does not establish that the same gift is available now or attached to this bundle. Check the terms on the specific retailer’s live listing. The historical announcement is at Pokémon’s preorder page.
