Before you start: keep the old line active
Do not cancel, suspend, or close the number you plan to move. Mint says the number must remain active with your current carrier so that carrier can release it; a canceled line may not be transferable. Wait for Mint’s confirmation that the port succeeded before deciding whether to close any remaining old-carrier account or service.

Check that your phone is unlocked and compatible with Mint. If you want to activate with eSIM, check that your specific phone supports Mint eSIM; a physical SIM is an alternative for eligible phones that do not support eSIM. Mint offers activation through its app or website.

Gather the information for the line being moved
- Your current carrier account number.
- The account PIN or number transfer PIN required by your current carrier. The process for obtaining it varies, so check that carrier’s account settings or contact its support rather than assuming your regular account PIN will work.
- The billing ZIP code on the current carrier account.
Use the details for the specific line you are transferring. If information does not match the old carrier’s records, the port may be delayed.

How to transfer your number during Mint activation
- Have your Mint SIM or eSIM ready. Choose the physical SIM or eSIM route supported by your phone.
- Open Mint’s activation flow in the Mint app or on its website.
- Choose the option to keep or transfer your existing number. Enter the requested phone number and billing ZIP code, then identify your current carrier.
- Submit the old carrier account number and required PIN. Review the entries carefully before submitting.
- Keep the old line active while the port is processing. Do not treat plan activation alone as proof that the number has moved.
- Wait for Mint’s success notification and check the new service. Mint says it sends a text and email when the transfer succeeds. Confirm that calls and messages work on Mint before making changes to the old account.
How long a Mint number transfer can take
Mint’s help pages estimate that most transfers finish within a few hours. Mint says incorrect submitted information can extend the process to as long as 48 hours, while landline transfers may take up to five business days. These are Mint’s estimates, not guaranteed completion times for an individual transfer. If the port is delayed or you suspect a detail is wrong, contact Mint Care at 800-683-7392 or use Mint chat. Mint says it does not charge to transfer a number, though your former carrier may charge a fee.
Moving several lines from a family account
Mint recommends activating lines one at a time and moving the primary account holder’s line last. This order can reduce disruption while other lines are being transferred. Keep each line active with the old carrier until its own transfer completes.
