Sober is an unofficial, experimental project—not a Roblox-supported Linux client—so check its requirements and be prepared for bugs or changes in availability.
What Sober is—and what it is not
Sober is a Linux runtime for Roblox, distributed as a Flatpak on Flathub. Its developers describe it as a specialized runtime; it does not use Wine, an Android emulator, or a virtual machine. It is also closed-source and unaffiliated with Roblox. Roblox’s 2025 annual report lists its client platforms as iOS, Android, Windows, Mac, Xbox, PlayStation, Chromebook, and select VR hardware as of December 31, 2025; Linux is not on that list. The project homepage cautions: “It’s a passion project rather than production-grade code. It’s not supported by Roblox and may be discontinued at any time.” Treat Sober as an experimental way to try Roblox on Linux, not an official or guaranteed route.
Check whether your Linux computer meets the requirements
Sober’s published minimum requirements are a Linux kernel version 5.11 or newer, an x86-64/AMD64 processor, and graphics capable of OpenGL ES 3.0. ARM devices are unsupported. The project recommends SSE4.2 CPU support and Vulkan 1.1-capable graphics for a smoother experience. Sober project homepage and documentation.

Roblox’s x86-64 APK requires SSE4.2, according to Sober’s installation documentation. Sober can emulate SSE4.2 on a CPU that supports only SSE4.1, but the documentation warns that performance will not be optimal. Meeting the minimum requirements does not ensure that every graphics card, Linux distribution, or Roblox experience will work.
Install Sober from Flathub
You need Flatpak installed and Flathub configured on your system. If Flatpak is not available yet, follow the setup instructions for your Linux distribution on Flatpak’s setup page. Then open a terminal and run:

flatpak install flathub org.vinegarhq.SoberConfirm the installation when prompted. You can then launch Sober from your desktop’s application menu.

Install Roblox on first launch

Open Sober from the application menu.

When prompted to install Roblox, keep the automatic installation option selected unless you have a specific reason to use manual installation. The project recommends the automatic option for users unsure whether an APK mirror is trustworthy.

Follow the prompts to complete setup, then use Sober to launch Roblox.
If you choose manual installation, Sober asks for the APK bundle version. Some split APK bundles require selecting both the base APK and the x86_64 split. Use care when obtaining APK files: the project’s documentation recommends automatic installation when you are uncertain about a mirror’s trustworthiness.

What to expect from compatibility and updates
Flathub lists Sober as available for x86_64 only, so Flatpak packaging does not mean it will run on every Linux device. At the time Flathub was checked on October 5, 2026, the listing showed version 1.8.0. Its release notes say that version addressed long-standing performance issues and freezes, a rendering bug affecting some titles on certain GPUs, and some Vulkan-related crashes; they also say it updated Roblox to 2.741.1061. These are release-note claims, not independent tests or a guarantee for your hardware. Check the Flathub Sober listing for the current version and changes.
The project warns that Sober may have bugs or instability and could be discontinued. Its homepage makes favorable performance comparisons, but there is no independent benchmark here to establish how it performs against Roblox on Windows. Compatibility with every experience, performance on a particular PC, account safety, and continued availability are not guaranteed by the project information cited here.

Uninstall Sober
To remove the app from a terminal, run:
flatpak uninstall org.vinegarhq.SoberThe project’s installation documentation says this command keeps Sober’s app data by default.
