PS5 does not offer a universal setting that duplicates all game audio to both a TV and a headset. Start with the console’s audio-output options, then check whether your exact TV supports simultaneous speaker and headphone output. If neither can do it, an HDMI audio extractor may provide a separate audio feed—but only if it supports your video and audio setup.
First decide what you want to hear in each place
“TV and headset at once” can mean two different setups:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Duplicated game audio: the TV and headset both play the game. This depends on the TV or an external audio-routing device; the PS5 settings do not guarantee it for every setup.
- Game audio on the TV and chat in the headset: this is a split arrangement, not duplicated game sound. Check the headset’s output options and test it with your game and party-chat setup.
Check the PS5 audio-output settings
- On the console, open Settings > Sound > Audio Output. You can also open the Control Center, select Sound, and change the output device there.
- Review Output Device, Switch Output Device Automatically, and the headphone-output options. Which choices appear depends on the connected devices and configuration.
- If you use a PULSE 3D Wireless Headset, Sony’s manual directs users to Settings > Sound > Audio Output > Output to Headphones to change headset routing. This setting controls what goes to the headset; it does not establish that the TV will also play the same audio.
Sony notes that available settings vary by connected equipment and that not every audio device is compatible with PS5. See Sony’s PS5 audio settings guide and the PULSE 3D Wireless Headset manual.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesCheck whether your TV supports simultaneous output
Look up the support documentation for your exact TV model and connection. Some Sony TV models allow certain combinations of TV speakers and headphones or another audio device. Other configurations disable the speakers when headphones are connected through the TV’s headphone jack, HDMI, or Bluetooth. The behavior depends on the model and connection, so do not assume a setting from another TV applies to yours.

- TRIFORCE TITANIUM 50 MM DRIVERS — Our cutting-edge proprietary design divides the driver into 3 parts for the individual tuning of highs, mids, and lows—producing brighter, clearer audio with richer highs and more powerful lows
- HYPERCLEAR CARDIOID MIC — An improved pickup pattern ensures more voice and less noise as it tapers off towards the mic’s back and sides, with the sweet spot easily placed at the mouth because of the mic’s bendable design
- ADVANCED PASSIVE NOISE CANCELLATION — Sturdy closed earcups fully cover the ears to prevent noise from leaking into the headset, with its cushions providing a closer seal for more sound isolation
- LIGHTWEIGHT DESIGN WITH MEMORY FOAM EAR CUSHIONS — At just 240 g, the headset features thicker headband padding and memory foam ear cushions with leatherette to keep gaming in peak form during grueling tournaments and training sessions
- VOLUME WHEEL — Its on-headset control makes it convenient to adjust audio levels without having to fiddle with any system or program settings
Use your TV’s documentation or audio settings to confirm whether it can play through its speakers and the relevant headphone or audio output at the same time. Sony’s model-specific support article describes supported configurations and limitations: listening to a BRAVIA TV through its speakers and headphones or an audio device at the same time.
Consider an HDMI audio extractor only if native options fall short
An HDMI audio extractor passes video onward to the TV while providing a separate audio output, such as optical or analog. That can create an independent route for a headset or audio device while the TV receives the HDMI signal. A quick-start guide for an Insignia extractor illustrates this connection pattern, but it is not a compatibility certification for every PS5, TV, or extractor: Insignia HDMI audio extractor setup guide.

Before buying, verify that the specific extractor supports the features you use, including:
- Your PS5 video resolution and refresh rate.
- HDR and VRR, if enabled in your setup.
- The audio format you need and the extractor’s output connector.
- The connection path from console to extractor, display, and headset or audio device.
Do not treat “HDMI pass-through” as proof that every current display feature or audio format will work. Confirm the exact device specifications and the output your headset accepts.

Test game audio and chat separately
- Connect the setup using the TV’s supported simultaneous-output method or the extractor’s documented connection pattern.
- Play a game and check whether sound comes from the TV, the headset, or both. If only one destination works, revisit the PS5 output-device selection and the TV’s simultaneous-output setting.
- Join a party or use in-game chat and check chat separately. A setup that sends game audio to both destinations may not route chat the way you expect.
- If the headset is silent, recheck its selected output and connection. If TV speakers stop when headphones connect, consult the TV’s model-specific documentation; the TV may not support that combination.
