However, the project notes do not establish that a PS2 disc can be inserted into a PS5 and played directly. PCSX2’s FAQ says its PC version can use PS2 discs, while noting possible speed problems with some PC disc drives and recommending an ISO instead. How to check whether your PS5 is a candidate

So the responsible answer is not “insert any PS2 disc and play.” First determine whether your model and firmware fit the project’s current tested information. Then check whether the game appears in its test notes and follow the project’s own current documentation for setup and game data. If the project does not explicitly describe reading a disc through the PS5 drive, do not assume that the optical drive will work with the app. The fact that PCSX2 can use discs on a PC does not fill that gap.

- Decide whether you need standard support or are considering homebrew. If you want a supported plug-in-the-disc experience, the PS5 does not provide it for PS2 software. PS5SX2 is a community project, not a Sony feature.

How to read PS5SX2’s game list
The project says its list records games that were started during tests and is not a compatibility guarantee. “Started” is a narrow description: it does not mean a complete playthrough, that every level or feature was checked, that performance stays consistent, or that the game will behave the same on every console and firmware pairing.
