Palworld 1.0 is the full-release version of Pocketpair’s open-world survival and creature-collection game. Install the current build on a supported platform, create or load a world, then follow the established loop of gathering, crafting, building, capturing Pals and exploring. New players should secure a base and a dependable work-and-combat team before entering dangerous regions. Returning players should make the new Sunreach and World Tree objectives, Ancient Ruins, Watchtowers, new islands and settlements their first destinations, then test the Awakening and Mutation systems.

What Palworld 1.0 is
Palworld combines open-world exploration, survival, crafting, base management, creature collection and combat. You can play alone, invite others to an online co-op world or join cross-platform multiplayer. Pocketpair’s release announcement declared, “Pal Tamers, the time has come. Today, Palworld exits early access. Palworld 1.0 is here!” The Steam store records July 9, 2026 as the release date, while the version 1.0 changelog announcement is dated July 10, 2026. Those dates describe the launch and changelog postings rather than two separate game versions.

Update the game on your platform
Install Palworld from the store or launcher for your supported platform and let it finish updating before entering a world. The 1.0 experience depends on the current build, especially for new locations, the expanded Pal roster and cross-play. If the update is still downloading, wait for the platform to report that the installation is complete rather than launching an older build.

Choose a new world or an existing save
Select a new world if you want to learn the survival loop without inherited equipment, bases or Pals. Load an existing save if you already understand gathering, crafting, base upkeep and Pal management; a returning world lets you reach 1.0 objectives sooner, but you should still inspect old teams and structures because several systems were reworked.

Decide who hosts co-op
For a group, choose the player who will host the world and make that decision before everyone starts building. Have every participant update first, agree on the host’s world and divide early jobs such as gathering, construction, combat and transport. The host should also tell the group where the initial base is and which exploration target is next, so players do not split the party before they have basic equipment.
How to begin a new Palworld 1.0 world
- Gather immediately. Collect the basic materials visible around your starting area. Early resources let you craft tools and equipment instead of travelling unprepared.
- Craft the first tools and equipment. Use the crafting interface to turn gathered materials into the items needed for harvesting, construction and defense. Keep enough materials in reserve to replace tools rather than spending everything on decorative construction.
- Capture your first Pals. Build a small roster with different practical roles. A Pal that helps with combat is useful on expeditions; another that can work at the base reduces the time you spend on routine production. Do not assume that a high-damage Pal is automatically the best worker.
- Establish a safe base. Choose a location with room for essential structures and a manageable approach from nearby threats. Put the base where you can reach resources without making every trip a hazardous expedition. Keep work areas organized so you can find crafting and storage stations quickly.
- Assign a small working team. Place suitable Pals on base tasks and keep a separate combat group available for travel. Watch how each Pal’s abilities and statistics perform rather than filling every slot with the same type.
- Explore beyond the starting area. Travel to learn the surrounding terrain, collect resources and activate fast-travel access. Exploration is not only sightseeing: it opens routes to new Pals, settlements, ruins and later objectives.
- Upgrade before entering dangerous regions. Improve equipment, carry replacement supplies and bring Pals whose abilities fit the destination. If an expedition repeatedly fails, return to the base, craft better equipment and adjust the team instead of forcing the same encounter.
- Set a shared objective in co-op. When playing with friends, decide whether the next outing is for resources, a new Pal, a Watchtower, a ruin or a story destination. A clear goal prevents the group from spending its first session scattered across unrelated tasks.
Where to go first in the 1.0 world
Version 1.0 adds several kinds of destinations. Use the table below to choose a target based on what your party needs rather than treating every marker as the same type of activity.
| Destination | What it contains | Best reason to visit | Preparation and risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sunreach | A new floating island with 1.0 content | Begin exploring the new endgame-scale space and locate the World Tree. | Reach it after your base, equipment and team are reliable; the area is intended as a major progression destination. |
| World Tree | The heart of the 1.0 story | Follow the central narrative added with the full release. | Treat the journey as a major objective, not a casual early-game detour. |
| Ancient Ruins | Exploration areas with minigames | Earn rewards such as schematics while testing movement and problem-solving. | Carry supplies and leave space for rewards; the challenge is different from ordinary resource gathering. |
| Watchtowers | Elevated map-reveal points that also function as fast-travel points | Uncover surrounding terrain and shorten later journeys. | Approach carefully and activate them when your party can handle nearby threats. |
| Seven new small islands | Islands spread across volcano, desert and ruins biomes, each with location-specific Pals | Find Pals and resources tied to a particular environment. | Pack for the biome and plan transport; their small size does not guarantee low danger. |
| New settlements | Settlements in the Bamboo Groves, Snowy Mountains, Sakurajima and Sunreach, with NPCs and sub-missions | Meet NPCs and pick up activities that complement exploration. | Use settlements as orientation points and check available sub-missions before leaving. |
| Sea enemy bases | Hostile bases located at sea | Take on a new type of enemy position and expand the places you can challenge. | Do not approach without a route, a capable combat team and a plan for retreat. |
| Wildlife Sanctuaries | A reworked sanctuary system | Revisit sanctuary content with the 1.0 changes and look for capture opportunities. | Relearn the layout and threats instead of relying on pre-1.0 habits. |
Make Watchtowers an early exploration priority
Watchtowers have two practical benefits: they reveal the surrounding map and become fast-travel points. Activating one can turn a long return journey into a short trip and gives you a clearer view of nearby objectives. When a tower is on a reasonably safe route, activate it before wandering farther into an unknown region.
Use Ancient Ruins for rewards, not only sightseeing
Ancient Ruins combine exploration with minigames and can reward items such as schematics. Bring a team that can protect you while you investigate, and leave inventory room for what you find. If a ruin is beyond your current capability, mark it mentally as a return destination rather than exhausting your supplies on repeated attempts.

Plan islands around their biome
The seven new small islands are distributed across volcano, desert and ruins environments, and each has location-specific Pals. Select an island based on the Pal or resource you need, then prepare for the conditions of that biome. A short island trip can still become expensive if you arrive without suitable equipment or enough supplies to return.
A practical route for returning players
Your old save is a head start, not proof that every previous decision remains correct. Use it to inspect what 1.0 changed before committing to a long expedition.
- Secure the base. Check storage, production stations, defensive arrangements and travel access. Repair or reorganize anything that would slow down a new exploration push.
- Review every important Pal. Look at statistics and abilities, not just level or reputation from an older build. The update rebalances Pal statistics and abilities, so a former favorite may have a different role and a previously ignored Pal may now fit your team.
- Separate work and combat roles. Keep dependable base workers available while assembling a travel party. A strong expedition team should not leave your base unable to produce essential supplies.
- Open the 1.0 map objectives. Visit Watchtowers, locate Sunreach, identify the World Tree route and mark Ancient Ruins, new settlements and islands. This gives the save a concrete post-update direction.
- Test the new content in a sensible order. Start with a reachable tower or settlement, then move toward ruins and biome-specific islands. Attempt the World Tree and sea enemy bases when your equipment and team are ready for major challenges.
- Experiment with Awakening and Mutation. Use candidates whose combat or work role you understand, change one variable at a time and compare the result with your existing setup.
Do not delete an established team just because a new Pal looks promising. Keep proven members available while testing replacements, and record which abilities matter for your preferred activity. This preserves a reliable fallback if an experiment performs poorly.
How to approach Awakening and Mutation
Awakening and Mutation are 1.0 progression systems, but the available release information does not define a universal best recipe or a single correct order. Treat them as controlled experiments rather than mandatory upgrades for every Pal.

Start with a Pal you already use for a specific purpose: a combat partner for a familiar encounter or a base worker whose output you can observe. A defined role gives you a baseline. If you modify an unused Pal first, you may not know whether the result improved anything important.
Change one thing, then test it
Keep the rest of the party and the activity consistent while you evaluate an Awakening or Mutation result. Test a combat candidate in the type of encounter where you normally use it; test a worker during the task it normally performs. Avoid changing the whole roster and the base layout at the same time, because you will not be able to identify which change helped.

Keep a fallback team
Do not place every dependable Pal into experiments at once. Maintain at least one functioning combat group and enough workers to keep the base supplied. If an experiment does not suit your play style, you can return to the proven setup instead of rebuilding from nothing.
Multiplayer and cross-play setup
The Steam listing identifies single-player, online co-op and cross-platform multiplayer. Pocketpair’s cross-play announcement says cross-play is available across all currently released platforms, including Steam, Xbox, PlayStation 5 and Mac. Availability across platforms does not remove the need for compatible current versions and a clearly chosen host.
- Update every copy first. Each player should install the current Palworld build before attempting to connect.
- Choose the host. Decide whose world the group will use and have that player launch it first.
- Join through the game’s multiplayer flow. Invite or connect using the options shown by the current platform and in-game menus; labels can vary by platform.
- Assign early responsibilities. One player can gather, another can construct, another can manage base Pals and another can scout. Rotate jobs if the group prefers, but agree on who is carrying shared supplies.
- Set an exploration rendezvous. Keep the first trips close to the base until everyone understands the terrain and how the host world is organized.
If a friend cannot connect
| Symptom | Checks to make |
|---|---|
| The world does not appear | Confirm that the host has launched the intended world, every player has completed the 1.0 update and everyone is using a currently released supported platform. |
| Players see different content | Close and restart the game after updating so that every client is running the same current build. |
| Connection fails after an update | Check the current in-game or platform networking documentation for platform-specific server rules; those rules can change independently of the game’s general cross-play support. |
| The group becomes disorganized | Return to the agreed base, assign roles and choose one shared destination before splitting up again. |
How to manage a 1.0 base and Pal roster
Keep base production dependable
Base building was overhauled in 1.0, so inspect old layouts rather than assuming every station and path still works exactly as before. Make essential work areas easy to reach, keep storage locations logical and leave room for expansion. A visually impressive base that blocks workers or forces long walks can slow every later objective.
Build teams around roles
Use one view of your roster for base work and another for exploration. A worker’s value is measured by how reliably it performs the task your base needs; a combat Pal is judged by how it handles the encounters you actually face. Because statistics and abilities were rebalanced, compare Pals in their intended jobs instead of relying on pre-1.0 tier lists.
Refresh your map knowledge
Old routes may bypass the new settlements, towers and islands. Revisit the map with the specific goal of activating fast travel, finding NPC sub-missions and locating biome-specific Pals. This is more efficient than wandering randomly because every trip improves either mobility, resources, roster options or story progress.
Common mistakes and how to correct them
Rushing the World Tree
The World Tree is the heart of the 1.0 story, which makes it a natural long-term objective. It is not a substitute for basic preparation. If your base cannot supply equipment or your team struggles in ordinary dangerous regions, strengthen those foundations before making the World Tree your immediate destination.

Assuming an old Pal ranking still applies
The update rebalances statistics and abilities and adds 72 Pals. Keep older favorites if they still perform well, but evaluate new and existing members under the same conditions. A team guide written before 1.0 may describe a different balance than the build you are playing now.
Ignoring travel infrastructure
Players sometimes chase rare Pals while leaving Watchtowers inactive. Activating towers first improves map visibility and travel efficiency, making subsequent island, ruin and settlement trips easier to plan.
Entering a biome without a purpose
Each new island belongs to a volcano, desert or ruins biome and has location-specific Pals. Choose the destination because you need its Pal, its resources or its route, then prepare for that environment. Purposeful trips consume fewer supplies than repeated blind searches.

Starting co-op before synchronizing versions
Cross-play support does not make mismatched builds compatible. If one player has not completed the update, finish the installation and restart before troubleshooting invitations or server behavior.
Changing every system at once
When returning players rebuild a base, replace a full team and test Awakening and Mutation simultaneously, failures become difficult to diagnose. Stabilize the base, review the roster, explore one new destination and then run controlled experiments.
A sensible first-session plan
- New player: update, create a world, gather, craft, capture a few Pals and establish a safe base.
- Early exploration: form separate work and combat groups, activate a reachable Watchtower and note nearby settlements or ruins.
- Mid-session objective: choose one new Pal or one biome-specific resource, then travel to the appropriate island or region with enough supplies to return.
- Returning player: inspect the old base and team, activate a Watchtower, visit a new settlement or Ancient Ruin and identify a candidate for Awakening or Mutation.
- Co-op group: verify that everyone is updated, confirm the host, assign jobs and agree on one destination before leaving the base.
This order preserves the core survival loop while directing experienced players toward the content that defines 1.0: Sunreach and the World Tree, the new exploration sites, expanded Pal choices and the revised progression systems.
Final answer: how to play Palworld 1.0
Start with the fundamentals—gather, craft, build, capture and assign Pals—then use exploration to unlock fast travel and find the new 1.0 content. New players should make a safe base and balanced team before pushing into difficult regions. Returning players should audit old Pals and base layouts, visit Sunreach, Ancient Ruins, Watchtowers, settlements and the seven new islands, and only then make Awakening and Mutation experiments part of their regular progression. For multiplayer, update every platform first, choose one host and coordinate roles before the group spreads across the map.
