In the NES version of Lee Trevino’s Fighting Golf, start a swing by pressing A, press A again at the top of the backswing, then press A a third time at impact. Use up or down to choose a high or low shot, and press B to choose a club. The game has Stroke Play, Nassau Game, and Practice modes, plus two 18-hole courses and four golfers with different strengths.

NES controls and the swing
The NES manual’s controller diagram identifies the D-pad, Select, Start, B, and A buttons. The core swing uses three A-button presses at different points in one swing: the manual.
- Press A to begin the backswing.
- Press A again at the top of the swing.
- Press A at impact.
- Press up or down on the control pad to select a high or low shot.
- Press B to open club selection.
- A quick A press with left or right immediately after contact applies backspin, according to the game description. Game details
The swing is a timing mechanic, not a fixed-distance command: club choice, golfer, lie, and course conditions also affect the result. No exact distance is established for a particular button timing.

Choose a mode and understand its scoring
