Yes, you can play some classic PC RPGs on PS5—but not by installing their Windows game files. The practical options are to buy or download a PlayStation port, play a compatible PS4 version through PS5 backward compatibility, or stream a game that is currently eligible in the PlayStation Plus catalog. Remote Play is different: it streams a console you own to another device, not PC games to your PS5.
Can a PS5 run classic PC games directly?
No. A PS5 is not a Windows PC, so you cannot install a PC RPG from a Windows game library and expect it to run on the console. Start by searching for the exact game in your regional PlayStation Store. If a PlayStation version exists, check its platform and PS5 compatibility details.

How PS4 backward compatibility works
PlayStation says the PS5 plays the overwhelming majority of the 4,000+ PS4 games in the overall catalog. That is a platform-wide figure, not a count of classic PC RPG ports. Some PS4 functions may be missing, and some titles may show errors or behave unexpectedly. The Store marks games that cannot run on PS5 as “Playable on: PS4 only.” See PlayStation’s PS5 backward compatibility guidance and check the individual game listing.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Digital PS4 game: Sign in to the account that owns the game and download it from your game library.
- PS4 disc: Use a PS5 model with a disc drive and leave the disc inserted while playing. PS4 discs do not work on PS5 Digital Edition.
- PS3 disc: PS5 does not support PS3 discs, so owning an older PlayStation disc does not by itself provide a way to play the game.
When PlayStation Plus streaming is an option
PlayStation Plus can stream eligible games in the Classics Catalog and other qualifying catalog titles. The specific game, your membership plan, and your region all matter, and catalog membership can change. Check the current catalog and the game’s Store details before subscribing for a particular RPG.

- Reactive Turn-based Combat: Craft unique builds for your Expeditioners that fit your playstyle via gear, stats, skills, and &character synergies
- Dodge, parry, and counter in real time, chain combos by mastering attack rhythms, and target enemy weak points using a free aim system
- With only one year left to live, join Gustave, Maelle, & fellow Expeditioners as they embark on a desperate quest to break Paintress’ cycle of death
- Explore an enchanting realm populated by adversaries; Wander through breathtaking landscapes, from Island of Visages to the Forgotten Battlefield
- Experience the debut game from Sandfall Interactive, fully realized in Unreal Engine 5 with stunning graphics and a heartbreaking soundtrack
For 1080p streaming, PlayStation says the game must support that resolution and the broadband connection must be at least 15 Mbps. Streaming can involve queues; mouse and keyboard are unsupported, Remote Play is unavailable during a PlayStation Plus stream, and some console features and devices are not supported. See PlayStation Plus streaming details.
This route only works for games PlayStation makes streamable. It does not let you send any game from a PC library to the PS5.

- Combines roguelike-style deckbuilding with turn-based SRPGs for a brand-new experience
- Over 100 cards to collect and build a deck with, all with unique designs
Remote Play does not stream PC games to PS5
PS Remote Play lets you view and control your own PS4 or PS5 from a supported device. For example, PlayStation documents connections from PC or Mac and mobile devices. Its support page specifies a minimum connection speed of 5 Mbps for both upload and download. Some games do not support Remote Play, and games that require special equipment can be incompatible. Details are on the PS5 Remote Play support page and mobile-device Remote Play page.

Remote Play extends access to a console you own or can use; it does not add Windows compatibility or provide a remote PC. PlayStation’s official support information documents its own streaming and Remote Play options, but does not establish a native PS5 client for third-party PC cloud gaming services.

Choose the route that fits the game you want
- Search for a console port. Look up the exact RPG in your regional PlayStation Store and confirm its edition, platform, and PS5 compatibility note.
- Check what you already own. A digital PS4 license can be downloaded from its owner’s game library. A PS4 disc requires a PS5 with a disc drive.
- Verify streaming eligibility. Find the game in the current PlayStation Plus catalog and check the membership and regional terms before paying.
- Use Remote Play only for a console you can access. It is for playing that console on another supported device, not for running a PC game on PS5.
