The turn sequence and scoring rules below describe the tabletop Third Season Edition, not a confirmed current ruleset for the video game. Cyanide announced a free 2026 update that would evolve Blood Bowl 3 into Warhammer Blood Bowl, but its announcement does not confirm that the update has shipped or specify the live game’s exact rules. Check the game’s current instructions for digital modes and rules.
How do turns work in Blood Bowl?
In a standard tabletop match under the Third Season Edition rules reference, play is divided into two halves. Each coach gets eight team turns per half, for 16 turns per coach across the match. The teams alternate turns; the receiving and kicking teams take turns until a touchdown or the end of the half. The team with more touchdowns at the end wins. Digital modes can use different settings, so do not assume this tabletop sequence applies unchanged to every Blood Bowl 3 match.

Take player actions one at a time
During a team turn, the coach chooses actions for players one at a time. The core action types include Move, Block, Blitz, and Pass. In the cited tabletop reference, each player may take one action during a team turn, with no more than one Blitz action and one Pass action in that team turn. A Blitz combines movement with one block; a Pass action lets the player move before attempting a pass. These are core actions, not a complete list of special actions, skills, or exceptions.

A turnover ends the active team’s turn early, even if some players have not yet acted. The tabletop reference gives examples including a player being knocked down or falling, a failed catch by a teammate, a failed ball pickup, a touchdown, or the team turn’s time limit expiring. This makes the order of actions important: a risky ball attempt may end the team’s action window before other players can act. Skills and the video game’s implementation may affect edge cases, so check the current rules for specific situations.

How do you score a touchdown?
A touchdown is scored when a player ends an action standing in the opposing team’s End Zone while holding the ball. Reaching the End Zone during an action is not enough if the player is knocked down before the action ends. When a touchdown is scored, the coach moves the score marker. The team with the most touchdowns when the match ends wins under the cited tabletop rules reference.
