To play music saved on a Samsung Galaxy, open Samsung Music, allow it to access your audio files when prompted, and tap a track. To hear audio through Bluetooth headphones or a speaker, connect the device and select it in the phone’s media output controls. For wired headphones with a standard 3.5 mm plug, a compatible USB-C-to-3.5 mm adapter may be needed.

Choose a track to start playback. Samsung lists MP3, WMA, AAC and FLAC among the supported formats in its UK guidance, updated August 14, 2026: Samsung Music and supported audio files.

You can also start audio in a streaming app if you use one; the exact app steps and available content depend on that service. Bixby is optional, not required to play audio.
Choose where the audio plays
Use the phone speaker
Start playback and leave the phone’s media output set to the phone. If sound is going to headphones or a speaker instead, open the media output controls and select the phone as the output. Menu names and locations can differ by Galaxy model, software version and region.
Play through Bluetooth headphones or a speaker

Pair the headphones or speaker with your Galaxy in Bluetooth settings, then make sure it is connected.

Start playback in your music or audio app.

Open the phone’s media output controls and choose the connected Bluetooth device. Samsung’s Canada support page describes switching playback between the phone and a connected device using Media output; screens and settings can vary: Samsung Media output guidance.
Connect standard wired headphones
If your headphones have a 3.5 mm plug and your Galaxy has a USB-C port, Samsung describes using a USB-C-to-3.5 mm adapter: plug the adapter into the phone, then connect the headphones to it. Check that the adapter is compatible with your specific phone model. Samsung’s instructions are here: Samsung guidance for connecting headphones.
Choose the setup that fits your needs

There is no universally best output: consider what equipment you already have, whether you want a wired or wireless connection, and whether you need sound on one device or more than one.

Optional audio features
Separate app sound
Separate app sound can send media from a selected app to a Bluetooth device while the phone’s main audio output remains set to something else. For example, one app could play through a Bluetooth speaker while other phone audio uses the phone’s main output. Setup and availability vary by model, software and market. Dual audio
On supported Galaxy phones, Dual audio can play the same media to two connected Bluetooth devices. It is not available on every Galaxy model; check your phone’s settings and support information before relying on it. Samsung describes the feature here: Samsung Dual audio guidance.
Voice commands with Bixby
If Bixby is available and set up on your phone, you can try a playback command for supported apps such as Samsung Music, Spotify, YouTube Music or Amazon Music. App support and how a command is understood can depend on the device, app and phrasing. Voice control is an alternative to tapping the app, not a requirement for playback. If there is no sound or the wrong device plays it

Saved tracks do not appear: Check that Samsung Music has permission to access audio or media files, then reopen the app.

Audio plays on the wrong output: Open Media output and select the phone or the connected Bluetooth device you want to use.

Bluetooth headphones or speaker are missing: Confirm the device is paired and connected in Bluetooth settings before choosing it in Media output.

Wired headphones are not detected: Check the adapter connection and verify that the USB-C-to-3.5 mm adapter supports your Galaxy model.

A feature or menu is unavailable: Separate app sound, Dual audio and other controls vary by model, software version and region. Check your device’s settings and model-specific Samsung support rather than assuming every Galaxy has the same options.
