The simplest way to play Arma Reforger with friends is for everyone to open Multiplayer, find the same official or community server, and join it. PC, Xbox, and PlayStation 5 players can play together when the server permits crossplay. For a private occasional session, a PC player can host from Multiplayer > Host tab > Host new server. For a persistent private group, use a dedicated server configured for cross-platform play.

What you need before joining friends
Arma Reforger multiplayer is server-based. Your group does not create a shared lobby in the same way as a conventional peer-to-peer co-op game; instead, every player connects to one server listing. Decide who will choose the server, then have everyone match the same listing and settings.
- A supported platform: PC, Xbox, and PlayStation 5 are supported. Cross-platform play depends on the server configuration.
- The same game release branch and version: A player on a different branch or version may be unable to see or join the server.
- Matching browser filters: Region, ping limits, platform restrictions, crossplay, and other filters can change which listings appear for each person.
- Matching Workshop content: If the server requires mods, every player must finish downloading and activating compatible versions before joining.
- A stable connection: This matters most when one PC is hosting the session or when a private server is running on a home network.
If your group includes console players, agree in advance that the selected server accepts their platforms. A server can be visible to one platform while excluding another.

Join the same public or community server
This is the lowest-effort option and works for mixed groups when the server has crossplay enabled.
- Open the main menu and select Multiplayer. Every friend should enter the multiplayer browser rather than starting a different game mode from another menu.
- Choose one server listing. Agree on the exact server name and mode, such as Conflict or Game Master. Names can be similar, so compare the full listing instead of relying only on a partial search.
- Align the filters. Use the same region, ping limit, platform restrictions, and crossplay setting. If one player has a stricter filter, the chosen server may not appear for that person.
- Check crossplay. A PC, Xbox, and PS5 group can play together only when the server is configured to accept cross-platform players. When a group is entirely on one platform, crossplay settings still need to be compatible with the server listing.
- Install required Workshop content. If the server prompts for missions or add-ons, allow every download to complete, then activate the required content when prompted.
- Select the same server and join. Have one friend verify that the others appear in the player list after loading. If someone is missing, stop and troubleshoot before changing servers.
Why friends see different server lists
The browser does not necessarily show the same results to every player. Filters, region, ping limits, platform restrictions, and crossplay settings can all remove a server from one person’s results. A server may also disappear temporarily while it is full, restarting, or changing its configuration.

Can PC and Xbox play Arma Reforger together?
Yes, PC and Xbox players can join the same Arma Reforger server when that server allows crossplay. The same condition applies to a PC and PlayStation 5 group. Crossplay is not an automatic override: the server must be configured for the platforms in your group.

When checking a server, confirm that it accepts all required platforms rather than assuming that a listing visible on PC is open to consoles. A dedicated server can be configured with the crossPlatform=true setting for cross-platform play. Community servers may use their own configuration, so check the listing and try an official or unmodded server if platform compatibility is unclear.
How to invite friends
There are two practical ways to get everyone into the same game:

- Server-browser method: Tell friends the exact server name and mode, then have everyone locate that listing under Multiplayer. This works across PC, Xbox, and PS5 as long as the server accepts each platform.
- Steam invitation: When a PC player hosts a server, friends may find it in the multiplayer list or accept an invite through Steam. This is the documented invitation route for a PC-hosted session.
For console friends, the reliable common step is still the multiplayer browser: make sure they use the same filters and select the same listing. If the server cannot be found, fix visibility or compatibility first rather than repeatedly sending invitations.
Host a private session from a PC
Arma Reforger includes player hosting, but hosting is exclusive to PC players. A PC friend can create a private session for an occasional group while Xbox and PS5 players join if the server is configured for crossplay.

- Open Multiplayer.
- Open the Host tab.
- Select Host new server.
- Choose the session settings. Select the desired game mode and configure privacy or password controls available in the host interface.
- Enable cross-platform access when needed. If Xbox or PS5 players are joining, the host must configure the session to accept those platforms.
- Start the server and share its name. Friends can locate it in the multiplayer list; PC friends may also accept a Steam invite.
- Keep the host available. The host’s PC and network must remain online for the player-hosted session to remain available.
When player hosting is a good fit
- A small group plays together occasionally.
- One PC player is willing to start and maintain the session.
- The group does not need the world to remain available when that player is offline.
- Everyone can tolerate occasional home-network troubleshooting.
Player-hosting limitations
A player-hosted server is tied to the host’s computer and internet connection. If the host exits, loses connectivity, or shuts down the PC, friends cannot continue using that session. Internet visibility may also require router port forwarding, depending on the network and the hosting configuration. The technical documentation describes this as a network requirement to check when a hosted server is not reachable.
Because hosting is PC-only, an Xbox or PS5 player cannot create the private player-hosted session for the group. They can still join a PC-hosted session when the host enables the appropriate crossplay configuration.

A dedicated server runs independently of an individual player’s game session. It can be hosted locally or obtained through a third-party hosting provider, and it is the better fit when friends play regularly or want the server available while the usual host is offline.
Why choose dedicated hosting
- Persistence: The server can remain available without a player acting as host.
- Consistent access: Friends return to the same server instead of waiting for one person to launch a session.
- Cross-platform configuration: Set the server to accept PC, Xbox, and PS5 players, including the
crossPlatform=truesetting where appropriate. - More control: Dedicated administration is better suited to a regular group that needs repeatable settings, privacy controls, or a stable mod set.
Dedicated-server trade-offs
Setup requires more technical work than joining a public listing or using the Host tab. You must install or obtain the dedicated-server tools, configure the server, select compatible content, and handle network access. If the server is self-hosted, firewall and router rules become your responsibility; if it is hosted elsewhere, you must work within that provider’s configuration process.

For a group that plays once in a while, player hosting is usually simpler. For a group that schedules regular sessions or wants a persistent private world, the additional setup of a dedicated server avoids the “wait for the host” limitation.

Workshop mods and compatibility
Workshop content can add community missions and other add-ons, but it also creates another compatibility checkpoint. A server may require a particular mod set, and every friend must have the required content installed, enabled, and compatible with the server’s version.
Before joining a modded server
- Read the server’s required-content prompt or description.
- Allow every listed download to finish before pressing Join again.
- Confirm that the required add-ons are active in your game.
- Use the same release branch and version as the server and the rest of the group.
- Remember that console mod storage and performance limits can differ from PC, so a mod set that works on PC may not be practical on a console.
If a modded join fails, test an official or unmodded community server. If the unmodded test works, the problem is likely the required content or its version rather than the basic connection. Add mods back only after everyone can join the clean test server.
Troubleshoot common multiplayer problems
“My friend cannot see my server”
- Compare the server name and selected game mode. Similar names can refer to different listings.
- Match region and ping-limit filters.
- Remove platform restrictions that exclude your friend’s device.
- Enable crossplay on the hosted or dedicated server if the group uses multiple platforms.
- Confirm that the server is still running and that a PC host has not closed the session.
- Check firewall and router rules, including possible port forwarding for a PC-hosted server.
“The server appears, but I cannot join”
- Verify that your game is on the same branch and version as the server.
- Install and activate every required Workshop add-on.
- Check that the server accepts your platform.
- Restart the game after a mod finishes downloading if the required content is not recognized.
- Try an official or unmodded server to separate a general connection problem from a server-specific mod problem.
“PC and console friends are getting different results”
Start with crossplay and platform restrictions. A listing can be available to PC while excluding Xbox or PS5. Confirm the server’s cross-platform configuration, then make all players use the same region, ping, and browser filters. If the issue remains, test a server explicitly configured for cross-platform play.
“Everyone joined, but one player is kicked after loading”
Check version and Workshop compatibility first. The player may have incomplete downloads, an inactive add-on, or a different branch. Console storage or performance limits can also affect modded sessions. Have the affected player complete or remove the required content, then retry the same server.
“The private server worked yesterday but is invisible now”
For a player-hosted session, confirm that the PC host has launched the server and remains connected. Next check whether the local network address, firewall, or router configuration changed. If the group needs reliable availability without the host, move the session to a dedicated server.
A reliable session checklist
- Choose the server type: official, community, PC-hosted, or dedicated.
- Confirm every player’s platform and whether crossplay is required.
- Pick one server name and mode.
- Match region, ping, platform, and crossplay filters.
- Check that everyone uses the same game branch and version.
- Install and activate required Workshop content.
- Have all players join the same listing before starting the planned mission.
- If visibility fails, test an official or unmodded server before changing several settings at once.
For occasional play, the Multiplayer browser or a PC-hosted server covers most groups. For a regular cross-platform community, a dedicated server configured with crossplay avoids dependence on one player’s PC and provides a consistent place to meet.
