To personalize Apple News, follow the topics and channels you want, use Suggest More or Suggest Less on individual stories, and block sources or topics you do not want in your feed. These controls have different reach: story feedback guides similar recommendations, while blocking suppresses a channel or topic. On iPhone and iPad, you can also restrict Today to followed items, but that removes Top Stories and Trending Stories and reduces variety.
Follow topics and publications you want to see
Apple calls publications in News “channels.” Search for a channel or topic in News and follow it; followed channels and topics appear in Today. Following is the simplest positive signal when you want more coverage of a subject or publication. Apple says that reading more helps Siri understand what matters to you and suggest stories, but does not quantify how accurately recommendations will match your interests. You can add followed channels and topics to Favorites to make preferred sources easier to access and organize, and reorder them. Favorites are limited in number; they are not a filter, so adding a source there does not guarantee that other stories disappear from Today. Apple describes these controls in its guide to stories chosen for you on iPhone.
Choose the right control for a story or source
Use the control that matches what you want to change. Feedback on one story, suppressing a suggested group, and blocking a channel or topic are not interchangeable.

Give feedback on individual stories
- Open Today in News and find a story whose recommendations you want to influence.
- Open the story’s More Actions menu beneath its headline.
- Choose Suggest More for more stories like it, or Suggest Less for fewer similar stories.
This feedback is about story similarity, not a command to block the publication. If you want to suppress everything from a channel or topic, use Block instead. Apple’s Today controls guide documents both options.
Stop a suggested group or block a source
Stop suggesting a group
If News suggests a channel or topic group that you do not want in Today, open its More Actions control and choose Stop Suggesting. This hides the suggested group without blocking the underlying publication or topic. Apple’s Mac guide notes that searching for and following it again can restore suggestions on Mac. Block a channel or topic
To suppress a source or topic more broadly, open its More Actions menu and choose Block. Apple says blocked stories are suppressed from Today and widgets, though a blocked channel’s headline may still appear in editor-curated Top Stories. You can manage blocked items and unblock them if you change your mind. Follow Apple’s instructions for blocking and unblocking channels and topics.
Restrict Today to followed channels on iPhone or iPad
For a narrower feed, go to Settings > Apps > News and turn on Restrict Stories in Today. This setting limits Today to followed channels; Apple warns that it significantly reduces variety and removes Top Stories and Trending Stories. Use it when a feed centered on your follows matters more than discovery. The same tradeoff is described in Apple’s iPhone guide and iPad guide.

What to know about Mac and regional availability
On Mac, the Suggested list can reflect Siri suggestions or your actions in News, and suggested items can be stopped without blocking them. Menu names and availability can vary with software version. Apple News, Apple News+, local news, and other features are not available in every region, and the available experience can differ by location. Check Apple’s News availability information for your region. Apple News+ offers additional publications and features where available; it is optional, not required to use the feed controls described here.
