On Windows, ShareX and Lightshot offer upload-and-link workflows; on Android, you can share a saved screenshot through Photos or Gallery. Choose the method based on where the screenshot is, what the recipient can open, and whether you need a link to an image or a page containing it.
Choose between sharing the image and sending a link
Use your device’s or app’s native Share control when the recipient can receive an image attachment. It sends the screenshot through the destination app without requiring you to create a public web URL. Uploading is useful when the destination accepts links but not attachments, or when you want a hosted URL to paste into a chat, ticket, forum, or document.

- Need to annotate or redact on Windows? ShareX can capture and edit an image before uploading it to a configured destination.
- Want a quick desktop capture and short link? Lightshot describes selecting an area, uploading the capture, and using the returned link. Check current compatibility before installing; its official page’s copyright footer ends in 2022.
- Already have the screenshot on Android? Find it in Photos or Gallery and use Share to send it through another app.
- Sharing from Imgur? Decide whether the recipient should see the whole post or one image within it; those use different links.
How to upload a screenshot and share its link with ShareX
ShareX is a Windows application. Its site describes uploading images or clipboard content to a preferred destination and copying, opening, shortening, or sharing the resulting link. The exact destination and access rules depend on the destination you configure.
- Capture the screen, a window, monitor, or selected region.
- Open the capture in the ShareX image editor if you need to crop, annotate, blur, or pixelate it.
- Inspect any redacted area closely. The editor guidance recommends cropping highly sensitive details out when practical rather than relying only on a visual cover.
- Upload the image to your configured destination and copy or share the resulting link.
- Paste the URL into the receiving chat, ticket, forum, or document. If access matters, check that the intended recipient can open it.
ShareX describes its upload and link workflow on its official site; its image editor documentation describes editing and redaction tools.

Use Lightshot for a desktop area capture and short link
Lightshot’s official page describes selecting an area of the desktop, editing the capture, uploading it to its server, and receiving a short link. The page lists Windows, Mac, and browser options, but its copyright footer ends in 2022; verify the current download and compatibility details before relying on a particular platform.
- Select the area of the desktop you want to capture.
- Edit the capture if needed.
- Upload it and copy the short link Lightshot returns.
- Paste the link into the destination and check that it opens as expected.

Share a saved screenshot from Android
Google’s Android Help describes finding a screenshot in Photos or Gallery and tapping Share to choose a receiving app. Device controls can vary. This sends the image through the app you select; it does not, by itself, create or promise a public web URL.

- Open Photos or Gallery and locate the screenshot, often in a Screenshots album or folder.
- Tap Share and choose the app or person you want to send it to.
For a long capture, Google says scrolling screenshots are available on Android 12 and up on most screens that allow scrolling. See Google’s Android screenshot instructions for device-specific guidance.

Share an Imgur post or a single image
On Imgur, choose the link based on what the recipient should see. A post link opens the whole post; an image URL points to a particular image within it.
- Desktop: Use the share controls to copy the post link. To share one image in the post, copy that image’s URL.
- Android or iOS app: Use the share icon for a whole post, or long-press an image or GIF for image-specific options.
Imgur says BBCodes are available only on desktop. Its sharing instructions explain the post and image options.

Check the screenshot before uploading
A screenshot may include details you did not mean to share, such as names, account identifiers, notification previews, addresses, or private messages. Review the entire image before sending it, not just the part you intended to capture.
- Crop out highly sensitive information where practical.
- If you blur or pixelate a detail, zoom in and inspect the edited area before uploading.
- Do not assume a hosted upload is private, temporary, or access-controlled. Confirm the selected host’s current sharing and access settings if those properties matter.
ShareX’s editor documentation specifically recommends cropping highly sensitive details out when practical and inspecting redactions before sharing.
