To pair two Bluetooth speakers for stereo or party playback, both speakers must support the same manufacturer linking feature. Ordinary Bluetooth pairing alone does not make unrelated speakers play together. Check the exact model names, choose stereo for separate left and right channels or party mode for shared playback, then follow that brand’s app or button instructions.
First, check whether your speakers can link
Read the model name on each speaker and look up the manufacturer’s current compatibility instructions. Bluetooth support is not enough: speaker-linking systems are often limited to particular models and product generations. A feature may allow two speakers to share audio but require an identical pair for stereo.

- Match the feature, not just the brand. Two speakers from one manufacturer may use different linking systems that cannot join the same group.
- Check the mode as well as the models. A pair may support shared playback but not left/right stereo.
- Follow the exact model’s current instructions. Apps, button sequences, and software requirements can vary by product and change over time.
JBL PartyBoost
JBL’s documented PartyBoost stereo setup requires two speakers of the same model. The support page lists Flip 6, Flip 5, Charge 5, Pulse 4, Pulse 5, Xtreme 3, Boombox 2, and Boombox 3 for its PartyBoost guidance. JBL says a Flip 5 and Flip 6 can play together in Party Mode but cannot form a Stereo Mode pair. PartyBoost speakers also cannot be combined with earlier JBL Connect or Connect+ products. Check JBL’s PartyBoost stereo setup instructions before relying on compatibility.

Sony treats Stereo Pair and Party Connect as distinct group features. Its Stereo Pair instructions call for two speakers of the same model; the cited Stereo Pair page says Speaker Add uses two speakers. In Sony’s Speaker Add flow, Double mode plays the same sound on both speakers, while Stereo mode assigns right and left channels. See Sony’s instructions for Stereo Pair and Party Connect and Speaker Add and Wireless Party Chain.

Bose Speaker Link
Bose’s Speaker Link help page names SoundLink Flex Portable Speaker (2nd Gen), SoundLink Max, SoundLink Micro (2nd Gen), and SoundLink Plus as app-compatible examples for Party or Stereo mode. Bose says Stereo is available only between two of the same model. SoundLink Home has different rules: it links only to another SoundLink Home for stereo, with the speakers assigned left and right, and does not support Party Mode. Consult the instructions for Bose Speaker Link modes or SoundLink Home, as applicable.
Choose stereo or shared playback
| Mode | What you hear | When it makes sense |
|---|---|---|
| Stereo | One speaker plays the left channel and the other plays the right channel. | Use it when you want a left/right soundstage and can place the speakers apart in suitable positions. |
| Party, Double, or equivalent | Both speakers play the same program rather than splitting left and right channels. | Use it when shared playback across more than one location matters more than stereo separation. |
Mode names differ by brand and product. For example, Sony calls its same-sound Speaker Add option Double mode, while Bose SoundLink Home supports stereo linking only.

Set up the pair using the right instructions
The exact sequence is not universal. The following JBL and Sony steps reflect their cited support instructions; use the product’s own guidance if your model or app presents different labels.
JBL PartyBoost stereo
- Connect your phone to one PartyBoost speaker over Bluetooth.
- Start music playback.
- Open JBL Portable and allow the app to detect the speaker.
- Press the PartyBoost button on each speaker to link them.
- Select Stereo in the app if you want separate left and right channels. Choose Party Mode for shared playback if that option is available for your pair.
Sony grouping
- Update the connected speakers if Sony’s instructions or Music Center indicate that a software update is needed.
- Open Sony Music Center and use its speaker-grouping flow to add the speakers.
- Choose the available mode—Double for the same sound from both speakers or Stereo for right/left playback—if your models support the choice.
- If Music Center requests Bluetooth access on iOS, allow the permission so the app can complete its connection flow.
Bose linking
Use the Bose app or the speaker controls specified for your model to enable Party or Stereo mode. Available methods and modes differ across Bose product families; SoundLink Home, for example, is a stereo-only case rather than a Party Mode option. Follow the product-specific page linked above instead of applying another Bose model’s button sequence.

- Walnut Wood Grain Speakers for Fixed Setups: Each speaker measures 5.9 x 6.1 x 9.7 inches (W x D x H); fits roomy desks, record-player cabinets and shelves with space for a stereo pair
If the speakers will not link
- Recheck both model names and generations. A brand match does not prove that two linking systems are compatible, and a mixed-model pair may have fewer available modes.
- Exit another active speaker group. If either speaker is already grouped elsewhere, disconnect it from that group before trying the new setup.
- Check app, software, and phone permissions. Sony’s Music Center flow may depend on updated speakers and, on iOS, Bluetooth permission.
- Use model-specific troubleshooting rather than a universal reset recipe. For SoundLink Revolve+, Bose says only one speaker should be powered on and connected to the phone when entering Party or Stereo mode, and recommends moving the phone and speakers closer. Those steps are specific to that product family; see Bose’s Revolve+ troubleshooting guidance.
Once linked, test playback with the speakers in their intended positions. In stereo mode, placement affects how clearly the left and right channels are perceived; in a shared-playback mode, check that both speakers are playing the same program.
