How to Pair LDAC Headphones with a USB-C Bluetooth Transmitter

Pairing is only the first step: both Bluetooth devices must support LDAC, the host must send USB audio, and the active codec must be verified after connection.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To use LDAC, pair your headphones with a USB-C Bluetooth transmitter that explicitly supports LDAC, and connect that transmitter to a host that can send it USB audio. Pairing alone does not confirm the codec: check the headphone app or device settings after connecting to verify that LDAC is active. Both the headphones and transmitter must support LDAC; a USB-C connector or Bluetooth version number by itself is not enough.

What you need before pairing

Think of the setup as three links: the host sends audio over USB, the transmitter sends it over Bluetooth, and the headphones receive and decode it. All three must work together. A Bluetooth connection can succeed while using a different codec, and a USB-C port does not guarantee that the connected accessory will receive audio from every phone, computer, or game system.

  • LDAC on both Bluetooth ends: Check the exact transmitter and headphone specifications or manuals. Sony states that both the headphones and playback device must support LDAC for LDAC playback. Sony’s compatibility guidance explains the two-device requirement.
  • USB audio from the host: Confirm that the specific host supports USB audio output to the transmitter. The transmitter manufacturer may describe supported device categories, but that does not establish compatibility with every model in a category.
  • A compatible operating mode: Some transmitters restrict codecs in particular modes. Check the manual for restrictions involving dual connections or connecting to more than one receiver.
  • Model-specific pairing instructions: The headphone and transmitter each have their own pairing procedure. Button sequences and indicator behavior are not universal.

For Sony headphones, the company’s LDAC compatibility information is one place to check whether a particular model supports the codec. For other brands, use the current manufacturer specifications and the manual for the exact model. Do not infer LDAC support from a product description that only says Bluetooth, USB-C, or high-resolution audio.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Check each part of the chain separately

Start with the exact headphone model, not just the brand or product family. A manufacturer’s compatibility page or manual can tell you whether that particular model supports LDAC. Then check the transmitter’s own specifications for an explicit LDAC listing. A transmitter can advertise Bluetooth audio or a newer Bluetooth version without supporting LDAC, and a headphone that supports LDAC cannot add the codec to a transmitter that does not.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Next, check the host-to-transmitter connection. The host is the phone, computer, or game system supplying audio; the transmitter is an external USB audio device, not necessarily a Bluetooth accessory managed through the host’s regular Bluetooth menu. The manufacturer may describe broad compatibility, but confirm that your specific host can output USB audio to the transmitter. If the host has an audio-output selector, the transmitter may need to be selected there. Connecting a USB-C plug proves only that it fits the port, not that the host is sending audio.

Finally, consider how you intend to use the transmitter. If you need it to connect to two receiving devices at once, check that feature against its codec limitations. A product may support LDAC in one mode but disable it in another. Read the model manual before treating a general codec list as a promise that every feature works simultaneously.

How to pair the headphones and transmitter

Pairing has two separate jobs: make the headphones discoverable, then make the transmitter search for them. The order and controls depend on the models, so use the instructions below as a sequence of tasks—not as a universal button recipe.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Check compatibility first. Confirm that the headphone and transmitter each list LDAC, that the host can provide USB audio to the transmitter, and that the intended transmitter mode allows LDAC.
  2. Prevent an unwanted reconnection. If the headphones automatically connect to a nearby phone, computer, or other Bluetooth source, disconnect them from that source or turn off its Bluetooth temporarily. Otherwise, the headphones may not be available to the transmitter when it searches.
  3. Put the headphones into pairing mode. Follow the headphone’s own manual. Sony notes that its pairing instructions vary by model: some headband-style headphones use a held button, while true wireless models may use controls on the earbuds or charging case. Do not copy a timing or button sequence from a different model. Sony’s pairing guide describes why model-specific instructions matter.
  4. Connect the transmitter to the host’s USB-C port. If the transmitter manual requires a host setting, select the transmitter as the audio output. The host must recognize it as an audio device; a physical connection alone does not confirm that audio is being sent.
  5. Start pairing search on the transmitter. Use the transmitter’s documented control and observe its status indicator as described in its manual. For example, the AYIN MR286 manual says to double-click its function button to enter pairing search mode, then put the receiving headphones into pairing mode and bring them close. That double-click applies to the MR286, not to USB-C transmitters generally. The MR286 manual gives its full procedure.
  6. Wait for the connection, then play audio. Follow the manual’s indication of a successful connection; LED colors and patterns vary. If the devices do not connect, put both back into pairing mode and repeat the model-specific process.
  7. Verify the codec separately. After audio is playing, use the headphone app, host settings, or transmitter status method—whichever the manufacturers document—to confirm LDAC. A successful Bluetooth pairing is not proof that the connection negotiated LDAC.

What to do if the pairing order is unclear

Some manuals describe pairing search from the transmitter’s perspective, while headphone instructions describe how to make the headphones discoverable. The practical goal is the same: one device must be searching while the other is in pairing mode. Follow the order and timing stated in both manuals, and use their indicators to determine whether each device is still in the required state. The MR286 example is useful as an illustration of one procedure, not as a template to apply to another transmitter.

If the first attempt fails, begin again with the documented pairing process rather than assuming the devices are incompatible. Check that the headphones are not already connected to another Bluetooth source, that the transmitter is actually in pairing search mode, and that the headphones are nearby. Sony’s general guidance explicitly notes that pairing controls differ among models, so a button combination that works on one pair may do nothing on another.

How to confirm LDAC is active

Codec support, pairing, and codec selection are distinct checks. Support means both devices are capable of LDAC. Pairing means the transmitter and headphones have connected. Active-codec verification tells you which supported codec is being used for the current connection.

Check the headphone app or device settings

On supported Sony headphones, Sony says to check the displayed codec in its Sound Connect app. The setting may also need to be changed to Prioritize Sound Quality where that option is available. App names, menus, and available controls differ by model, so follow the relevant headphone instructions rather than expecting a single menu path for every device. Sony’s codec-check instructions describe checking the codec used for a connection.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Look for a status that identifies the codec for the current connection, rather than treating a general settings page or specification list as confirmation. A headphone model can support LDAC in principle while a particular connection uses another codec. If the app reports a different codec, use the setting controls and troubleshooting guidance for that headphone and transmitter combination, then check the live connection again.

Account for transmitter-specific controls

Some transmitters have no user-facing codec selector, or expose status differently from a headphone app. Check the transmitter manual for a codec indicator or mode setting, and check the headphones’ app or host settings if the transmitter does not show the active codec. For Acoustune’s ATX001, the manufacturer says a compatible codec may need to be enabled in the headphone or device’s dedicated app; it also says that app cannot be used while the device is connected to ATX001. Configure the relevant option before connecting if the app is needed. Acoustune’s ATX001 information describes this limitation.

This can affect the order of setup. If an app is needed to enable a codec but cannot operate while the ATX001 connection is active, make the setting change before you connect to the transmitter. Disconnect if necessary, configure the device as directed by its manufacturer, then reconnect and verify the current codec. Do not assume that the app’s presence alone means LDAC has been enabled for the new connection.

Recheck after changing a quality setting

If LDAC is supported but does not become active, check the codec settings at both ends and disconnect and reconnect after changing a setting. Sony recommends restarting the Bluetooth connection after changing its quality setting when LDAC does not immediately activate. A different transmitter may have different controls, but the general diagnostic principle is the same: verify the codec on the live connection after making a change. Sony’s LDAC troubleshooting guidance covers this situation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Changing a sound-quality preference can also affect connection stability. If you alter a setting to address dropouts, check again which codec is in use; do not assume the previous codec remains active. The aim is not simply to see LDAC listed somewhere, but to confirm that the active connection uses it under the mode and settings you have chosen.

USB-C transmitter examples and what to check

These examples show why the exact model matters. They are manufacturer-described products, not a claim that any one will work with every host or headphone. Check current product details and the relevant manuals before relying on a particular feature.

Transmitter Manufacturer-stated LDAC information Host or setup details Mode limitation noted
xDuoo Uplink xDuoo lists LDAC among its supported codecs. The product page describes a USB-C Bluetooth audio transmitter for phones, computers, and game systems. Confirm USB-audio compatibility with your specific host. xDuoo Uplink product information Not stated on the cited product page.
Acoustune ATX001 Acoustune describes the USB Type-C transmitter as supporting LDAC. The manufacturer says a compatible codec may need to be enabled in a dedicated app, which cannot be used while the device is connected to ATX001. Acoustune ATX001 information Not stated on the cited product page.
AYIN MR286 The manual lists LDAC and says the transmitter and receiver must have matching codec support. The manual gives model-specific pairing steps, including double-clicking the function button to enter pairing search mode. AYIN MR286 manual LDAC is not supported when two receiving devices are connected.

Use a comparison like this to narrow down candidates, not to assume that a connector shape or headline codec list answers every compatibility question. Before purchase or setup, check these points for the exact transmitter and headphones:

  • Does each device explicitly list LDAC?
  • Does the host send USB audio to that transmitter?
  • Does LDAC remain available in the mode you plan to use, including any dual-device or multipoint mode?
  • What control starts pairing search, and how does the manual identify a successful connection?
  • Where can you verify the active codec after pairing?
  • Does a headphone app need to enable a codec setting before the headphones connect to the transmitter?

How to compare transmitter candidates

Compare the explicit codec list first. A product description should identify LDAC, not simply say that it is a Bluetooth transmitter or supports high-resolution audio. Then compare USB-audio compatibility for your actual host. A manufacturer’s statement that a device is intended for phones, computers, or game systems is useful context, but it does not settle compatibility with every model in those categories.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Next, compare operating modes against how you plan to listen. If connecting two receivers is important, check whether LDAC remains available in that mode. The MR286 manual provides a clear example of a restriction: its dual-receiver connection does not support LDAC. This does not establish how other products behave, so consult each model’s own documentation rather than assuming the same limitation—or assuming there is none.

Also compare the practical setup and verification details: how pairing search starts, what the indicator means, and where the active codec can be checked. A transmitter with explicit LDAC support can still be inconvenient for your setup if the host does not output USB audio, if the chosen mode disables LDAC, or if you cannot verify which codec the current connection is using. These are compatibility questions, not reasons to assume that a more prominent codec list settles everything.

The research supports product examples and compatibility checks, but does not establish prices, comparative sound quality, or a universal best transmitter. Treat availability and product claims as subject to change, and confirm current manufacturer information before buying. The useful comparison is the fit to your host, headphones, required operating mode, and verification method—not an unsupported price or performance ranking.

Troubleshoot the symptom you see

The headphones do not appear in the transmitter’s search

  • Put both devices back into pairing mode using their own manuals; pairing mode may time out, and control sequences differ.
  • Move the headphones near the transmitter while it searches. The MR286 manual specifically instructs users to bring the receiving headphones close during its pairing procedure.
  • Disconnect the headphones from another source if it has automatically reconnected to them.
  • Check the transmitter’s status indicator according to its manual to confirm it is actually searching rather than already connected or in another mode.

It connects, but LDAC is not displayed

  • Recheck the specification for each exact device; codec support on only one end is insufficient.
  • Look for a codec or sound-quality setting in the headphone app, host settings, or transmitter instructions. With ATX001, Acoustune notes that the dedicated app cannot be used while connected, so make any required app change before connecting.
  • Exit a transmitter mode that restricts LDAC. For example, the MR286 does not support LDAC while connected to two receiving devices.
  • After changing a setting, disconnect and reconnect, then check the live connection again. Sony recommends restarting the Bluetooth connection when its quality setting change does not immediately activate LDAC.

Keep the diagnosis in order: first confirm that both ends support LDAC, then check mode restrictions and codec settings, then reconnect and inspect the active codec. Repeating the pairing process without changing any of those conditions may create another Bluetooth connection but will not by itself enable an unsupported codec or override a restricted mode.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Audio stutters or cuts out

Sony notes that LDAC uses a larger transmission volume and recommends prioritizing a stable connection if interruptions occur. This may change the codec or quality in use, so check the active codec again after adjusting the connection-quality setting. Sony’s LDAC troubleshooting page provides its guidance for playback problems.

Separate a stability problem from a pairing or host-audio problem. If the headphones remain connected and audio is interrupted, Sony’s connection-quality advice is relevant. If there is no audio at all, check whether the host is sending audio to the transmitter and whether the devices are connected. After any quality-setting change, verify the active codec rather than assuming that the connection is still using the same one.

The host sees a connection but sends no audio

Check whether the host recognizes the transmitter as an audio output and select it if needed. Then verify that the particular host supports USB audio with that transmitter. The Uplink page’s descriptions of phone, computer, and game-system use are not proof of compatibility with every device in those categories; confirm the combination you intend to use.

This is a different issue from whether the headphones have paired successfully. Bluetooth pairing can be complete while the host is still sending audio to another output—or while it does not support USB audio for that transmitter. Confirm the host output and the Bluetooth connection separately before treating silence as an LDAC problem.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What successful setup means

A complete check has three results: the host sends audio to the USB-C transmitter, the transmitter and headphones are connected, and the active codec is confirmed as LDAC. If only the Bluetooth connection is confirmed, the setup is paired but codec verification is still unfinished. If LDAC is not available, check device support, app or host settings, and transmitter mode before repeating pairing steps.

For a reliable result, keep the model-specific manuals available during setup. They determine the pairing controls, LED or status indications, available codec settings, and any operating-mode restrictions. A concise checklist is: host recognizes the transmitter as an audio output; both Bluetooth devices explicitly support LDAC; the headphones and transmitter are connected in the intended mode; and the active codec is visible in a documented app, setting, or status display.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will any USB-C Bluetooth transmitter work with LDAC headphones?

No. The transmitter must explicitly support LDAC, the headphones must also support LDAC, and the host must be able to output USB audio to that transmitter. USB-C and a Bluetooth version number alone do not establish any of those requirements.

If my headphones pair successfully, does that mean LDAC is active?

No. Pairing confirms a Bluetooth connection, not the codec in use. Check the live codec in the headphone app, host settings, or transmitter status method documented for your models.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why does LDAC not appear even though both devices list it?

Check codec or sound-quality settings at both ends, any required headphone-app setting, and whether the transmitter is in a mode that restricts LDAC. Acoustune says the ATX001’s dedicated app cannot be used while connected, so a required change may need to be made before connecting. The AYIN MR286 does not support LDAC when two receiving devices are connected. After changing a setting, disconnect and reconnect and check the active codec again.

Can I use LDAC with two receiving devices connected to the transmitter?

It depends on the transmitter and its operating mode. The AYIN MR286 manual specifically says LDAC is not supported when two receiving devices are connected. Check the manual for the exact model rather than assuming dual-device operation preserves LDAC.

What should I do if audio stutters while using LDAC?

Sony notes that LDAC uses a larger transmission volume and recommends prioritizing a stable connection if interruptions occur. After changing the connection-quality setting, check the active codec again because the codec or quality in use may change.

Why is there no audio after the headphones connect?

Check that the host recognizes the transmitter as an audio output and select it if needed. Also confirm that the specific host supports USB audio with that transmitter. A successful Bluetooth connection does not prove that the host is sending audio to it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do Sony headphone pairing steps apply to every model?

No. Sony says pairing controls vary by model. Some headband models use a held button, while true wireless models may use earbud or case controls. Follow the manual for your exact headphones and transmitter.

The Bottom Line

To pair LDAC headphones with a USB-C Bluetooth transmitter, verify explicit LDAC support on both Bluetooth devices and USB-audio support on the host, then follow each model’s pairing instructions. Finally, confirm LDAC on the active connection; a successful pairing alone does not prove which codec is being used.
