If no prompt appears, open the phone’s Bluetooth list and select Galaxy Buds4 Pro; opening the case or holding its connection button puts the earbuds back into pairing mode. After connection, control settings are in the connected-earbuds section of Settings on Galaxy phones running One UI 8.0 or later, and in Galaxy Wearable on earlier One UI versions.
This guide follows Samsung’s US, German and Indian instructions. Labels and screens can differ by phone model, software version and region.

Before you start
Have the earbuds and charging case nearby, and charge the case before beginning. Samsung’s setup guidance starts with a powered case because a depleted case can prevent pairing mode from starting or interrupt setup. Keep the phone close to the case while you work and make sure the earbuds are seated in the case or immediately beside it.
- Phone Bluetooth: Bluetooth must be switched on before the case is opened.
- Earbuds and case: Keep both buds in or near their open charging case. The case is the control point Samsung uses to begin pairing.
- Software route: A Galaxy phone on One UI 8.0 or later exposes Buds settings directly in the phone’s Settings app. Earlier One UI versions use Galaxy Wearable.
- Advanced Android settings: Samsung says Galaxy Wearable requires an Android phone running Android 12 or later with at least 1.5 GB of memory. Galaxy Wearable is not supported on iOS.
- Samsung account: Samsung’s product instructions require a Samsung Account login to activate and change Buds4 Pro settings in Galaxy Wearable. An additional plug-in may also be required, depending on the One UI version.
These app requirements apply to advanced configuration. Samsung states that a basic Bluetooth audio connection is available regardless of the phone’s operating system, so you can still use ordinary Bluetooth pairing on a non-Android phone, although the Galaxy Wearable control panel is unavailable on iOS. In other words, Bluetooth audio and Samsung’s customization software are separate layers: the first can work without the second.

Identify the correct model in the list
When you search for nearby devices, select the entry named Galaxy Buds4 Pro. Do not choose an unfamiliar accessory merely because it appears first. If the earbuds were previously paired, your phone may show them under saved or previously connected devices rather than under a fresh-device heading.
Pair Galaxy Buds4 Pro with a phone
Use the automatic pairing prompt
- Charge the case, then turn on Bluetooth on the phone.
- Place the earbuds in the charging case and open its lid. Samsung’s product and support instructions say an on-screen pairing prompt should appear when Bluetooth is enabled.
- Tap the prompt’s Connect button, or follow the equivalent confirmation shown on your phone.
- Complete any setup or permission screens that follow. The exact screens vary with the phone’s software version and region.
Opening the case with Bluetooth already enabled is Samsung’s recommended easy-pairing start. Leave the case open while the phone searches. If the prompt appears, this is the shortest route because the phone identifies the Buds4 Pro without requiring you to search through a long list of nearby Bluetooth devices.
The prompt can look different from Samsung’s example. A newer Galaxy phone may show the Buds name in a device card, while another phone may display a standard Bluetooth confirmation. Follow the confirmation that identifies the earbuds, then wait for the phone to finish connecting before closing the case.
Select the earbuds manually when no prompt appears
- Open the phone’s Settings and go to its Bluetooth or Connected devices page.
- Open the Buds4 Pro charging case. Samsung’s Germany support instructions describe opening the case and, when needed, holding the case’s connection button to start pairing mode.
- Wait for Galaxy Buds4 Pro to appear under available devices.
- Tap the name and accept the pairing confirmation.
Use the manual route whenever the popup is suppressed, was dismissed, or does not match the labels shown in Samsung’s example. The device name in the list should identify the earbuds as Galaxy Buds4 Pro; do not select an unrelated nearby accessory.
Manual selection is also useful when moving the earbuds to a phone that has never used them before. Bluetooth settings provide the fallback Samsung documents, so the absence of a pop-up does not mean the earbuds cannot pair.
What to do if the Buds4 Pro are not listed
- Confirm that Bluetooth is enabled and that the case and earbuds have charge.
- Close and reopen the case to make the earbuds advertise themselves again.
- If they still do not appear, use the case’s connection button to re-enter pairing mode, as described in Samsung’s Germany setup guide.
- Refresh the phone’s available-device list and search again for Galaxy Buds4 Pro.
- If the earbuds continue to be missing, follow Samsung’s reset procedure and repeat pairing. Resetting is a later troubleshooting step because it can remove existing connection information.
Keep the phone close to the case during this process and avoid trying to pair while the earbuds are already actively connected to another phone. If another device has the Buds4 Pro connected, disconnect them there first or select the earbuds from the new phone’s Bluetooth menu. A phone can only complete the new connection after the earbuds are available to it.
After the first connection
Once the phone confirms the connection, open a music or calling app and make a short test. This confirms that audio is routed to the Buds4 Pro before you spend time changing controls. If audio is working but the settings page is absent, use the software-specific route below rather than pairing again.

Choose the correct settings route
The software path depends primarily on the Galaxy phone’s One UI version. Samsung presents these as two routes to the same Buds controls rather than as different earbud capabilities.
Rank #2
- Active Noise Cancellation (ANC): Blocks out unwanted background noise so you can focus on music, calls, or podcasts
- True Wireless Convenience: Enjoy tangle-free Bluetooth connectivity for seamless listening on the go.
- Intuitive Touch Controls: Easily manage calls, adjust volume, and control playback without reaching for your phone.
- International Model without Domestic Warranty: The Galaxy Buds 4 Pro SM-R640 are an International Version and do not include a local warranty. Optimized for Android, particularly Samsung Galaxy devices, they offer advanced features such as Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), 360 Audio, Hi-Fi sound, and real-time AI-based audio enhancements. While fully compatible with iOS devices via Bluetooth, certain features like ANC customization and 360 Audio are exclusive to Galaxy Android devices.
| Phone software | Where to change Buds4 Pro controls | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| One UI 8.0 or later | Settings → select the connected Galaxy Buds4 Pro → Earbud controls | Choose the left or right earbud and tailor its available controls in the phone’s Settings app. |
| Earlier One UI versions | Galaxy Wearable → select Galaxy Buds4 Pro → open the earbud-control settings | The app provides the advanced configuration interface. Samsung Account login is required to activate and change Buds4 Pro settings in Galaxy Wearable. |
Samsung warns that menu wording and displayed screens can change with software version and region. If the labels do not match these examples exactly, look for the connected Buds4 Pro entry and then an option named Earbud controls, Controls or a similar control-settings label. The two routes are a practical comparison: newer One UI puts the controls in the phone’s system settings, while earlier versions keep them in Samsung’s companion app.
Do not assume that installing Galaxy Wearable is mandatory for ordinary listening on every phone. Samsung specifically separates basic Bluetooth audio compatibility from the Android and account requirements for advanced settings.
Customize pinch and swipe controls
On One UI 8.0 or later
- Open Settings on the Galaxy phone.
- Tap the connected Galaxy Buds4 Pro entry.
- Tap Earbud controls.
- Select the left or right earbud.
- Choose the action offered for each gesture and save or leave the screen as directed by the phone.
Only the connected Buds4 Pro will expose these settings. If the model is absent, return to Bluetooth and complete pairing before opening the earbud-control page. Select each side separately if you want different behavior from the left and right earbuds.

- Install or open Galaxy Wearable on a compatible Android phone.
- Sign in with a Samsung Account if the app requests it, and install any Buds plug-in that Samsung says is required for your One UI version.
- Select Galaxy Buds4 Pro in the app.
- Open the earbud-control settings, then select the left or right earbud.
- Assign the available pinch, hold and swipe actions shown by the app.
The app’s exact menu names can differ from Samsung’s current examples. Update the app and its plug-in if the Buds4 Pro connect for audio but the control page is missing. The Samsung Account condition applies to activating and changing settings in Galaxy Wearable, not to the basic Bluetooth connection described earlier.
Make a deliberate test after changing an assignment
Test one gesture at a time while music is playing. First try a single pinch, then double and triple pinches, followed by a volume swipe and a hold. Testing both earbuds matters because the settings page lets you select the left or right side and may show separate assignments. If a command does not behave as expected, return to the same control page and check which action is currently assigned instead of assuming the default remains active.
What each gesture does
Samsung describes the control cue as: Press the pinch area until you hear a clicking sound.
The following are the standard actions Samsung documents; an assignment can vary after you customize it.
| Gesture | Standard action | Important details |
|---|---|---|
| Single pinch | Play or pause media; answer or end a call | In applicable situations, Samsung also lists stopping read-aloud notifications, voice detection or siren detection. |
| Double pinch | Play the next track | Perform two distinct pinches in sequence on the pinch area. |
| Triple pinch | Return to the previous track | Samsung India notes that triple pinching within three seconds after music starts can restart the current track. |
| Swipe up or down | Adjust volume | Swipe on the earbud’s designated control area; the direction changes the volume according to the phone’s displayed behavior. |
| Pinch and hold | Activate the preset function, which is noise control by default, or reject a call | Samsung’s product instructions say hold can also switch ANC on or off, depending on your selected configuration. |
When testing a gesture, use a deliberate pinch until the click is felt or heard. A light touch on the stem may not register as the intended command, while repeated taps can be interpreted as a different gesture. The clicking cue is especially useful when you cannot look at the phone, such as when answering a call.

Understanding the track gestures
Double pinch advances to the next track. Triple pinch goes back. If music has just started, Samsung India’s guidance adds a timing rule: three pinches within three seconds can restart the current track instead of moving to the prior item. Outside that short window, triple pinch is the previous-track command. This timing distinction explains why the same triple gesture can appear to produce two different results at the beginning of playback.

Understanding hold and noise control
Hold is a context-sensitive command. With the default preset, it activates noise control; during a call, it can reject the call. Samsung also documents ANC switching through hold when that option is selected in the Buds configuration. Check the assignment shown for the selected earbud rather than assuming both sides have identical hold behavior. If hold performs an unexpected task, inspect the selected preset in the control page before changing the pairing.
Gestures that involve notifications and detection
Samsung’s support guidance includes stopping read-aloud notifications, voice detection or siren detection among actions associated with a single pinch in applicable situations. These are situational actions, not extra gestures that must be enabled on every phone. The exact options displayed depend on the connected software and the features active at that moment.
Pair the earbuds with more than one device
Samsung says Galaxy Buds4 Pro can be paired with multiple devices. To change devices, open the desired phone or tablet’s Bluetooth menu and select the earbuds there. This is a pairing-across-devices instruction, not a promise that every phone will perform automatic multipoint switching.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- On the device you want to use, open its Bluetooth settings.
- Put the Buds4 Pro into pairing mode by opening the case; use the case connection button if the device cannot find them.
- Select Galaxy Buds4 Pro from the available-device list.
- When moving back to a previously paired device, select the Buds4 Pro from that device’s Bluetooth list if they do not switch automatically.
If the earbuds remain connected to the previous phone, disconnect them there before selecting them on the new device. The exact switching behavior depends on the devices and their software. Pairing with several devices therefore does not guarantee that audio will jump between them without a manual selection.
Troubleshooting by symptom
The pairing popup never appears
Do not wait indefinitely for the popup. Open Bluetooth settings manually and select Galaxy Buds4 Pro. If the name is absent, reopen the case, verify charge and hold the case connection button to re-enter pairing mode.
The earbuds appear but will not connect
Confirm that the case has power and that Bluetooth is on. Move the phone close to the case, disconnect the earbuds from another previously paired device, then try the manual Bluetooth selection again. If the connection still fails, use Samsung’s reset guidance and start the pairing process from the beginning. Reset is a later step because existing connection information may be removed.
The earbuds connect to the wrong phone
Open Bluetooth settings on the phone you want to use and select Galaxy Buds4 Pro there. If another phone currently has an active connection, disconnect the earbuds on that phone first. Samsung’s multiple-device guidance describes selecting the earbuds from the desired device’s Bluetooth menu rather than relying on automatic switching.
Audio works but customization is unavailable
Basic Bluetooth audio can work without Galaxy Wearable, while advanced settings require the supported Android software and memory listed by Samsung. On One UI 8.0 or later, check the phone’s connected-Buds entry in Settings. On earlier One UI versions, use Galaxy Wearable, sign in with a Samsung Account and install the required plug-in if prompted.

A gesture is not recognized
Press the designated pinch area until you hear the clicking sound Samsung describes. For double or triple pinch, keep the presses distinct and close together. For volume, swipe on the control area rather than tapping. Then verify the selected left- or right-earbud assignment in Earbud controls. A gesture may be working but assigned to a different action than you expected.
Triple pinch restarts instead of going back
Check when the gesture was performed. Samsung India says that triple pinching within three seconds after music starts can restart the current track. After that short interval, the standard triple-pinch behavior is to return to the previous track.
The menu names do not match
Samsung’s instructions are tied to particular One UI versions and regional software. Look for the connected Galaxy Buds4 Pro entry, then the earbud-control page; the wording may differ even though the function is present. Samsung’s Germany pairing article was updated March 31, 2026, and Samsung India’s pinch/swipe guide was updated May 20, 2026, but phone software can change after those dates.

The earbuds are not visible even after reopening the case
Check both charge and Bluetooth first. Reopen the case, use its connection button to enter pairing mode and refresh the available-device list. If the earbuds remain absent, follow Samsung’s reset procedure before repeating the pairing steps. Avoid selecting an unrelated device that happens to be nearby.
