The Razer BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed has three connection choices: 2.4 GHz wireless through its USB dongle, Bluetooth, and wired USB. Use the dongle for low-latency wireless on a compatible host, Bluetooth for phones and tablets, or USB when you want audio while the headset charges. The headset cannot play audio from its two wireless modes simultaneously.
For Bluetooth through the Razer Audio App, switch the headset to Bluetooth mode, hold the power button until the indicator blinks blue, open Add Devices in the app, and choose BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed. Basic audio is plug-and-play; 7.1 surround, EQ controls, and microphone enhancements require Razer Synapse on a Windows PC.

Choose the right connection before you start
Razer describes three modes of connectivity for this headset. The best choice depends on the ports and wireless support of the device you are using.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
| Mode | What you need | Best use | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2.4 GHz HyperSpeed wireless | The headset’s USB dongle connected to the host | Wireless computer or console audio where you want the dongle connection | Requires an available, supported USB connection; it cannot play at the same time as Bluetooth audio |
| Bluetooth | A host with Bluetooth audio and the Razer Audio App for the documented pairing workflow | Phones, tablets, laptops and other Bluetooth-capable devices | Only one wireless mode supplies audio at a time |
| USB wired | A USB connection between the headset and host | Plug-and-play audio, or playing while the headset charges | You are physically tethered to the host |
A single press of the headset’s SmartSwitch changes between HyperSpeed Wireless and Bluetooth. SmartSwitch is a mode selector, not a mixer: switching modes changes the active wireless connection rather than combining both sources.

Check the headset edition and host first
Before troubleshooting pairing, identify the exact BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed edition. The standard multi-platform model is listed by Razer Support as model RZ04-054201. That version is described as working with PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PC, Mac, smartphones, tablets and handheld devices that provide Bluetooth audio or USB-A connectivity.
Do not assume that every BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed dongle is interchangeable. In a December 5, 2025 Razer Insider support reply, a Razer representative said the multi-platform headset cannot pair with the HyperSpeed Wireless Replacement Dongle for Xbox. That replacement dongle is for the Xbox edition of the BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed and the Razer Kaira HyperSpeed – Xbox Licensed. If you own an Xbox-labeled package or replacement dongle, verify its edition-specific compatibility before attempting setup.
- Confirm that the host has the connection you intend to use: a suitable USB port for the dongle or wired mode, or Bluetooth audio for Bluetooth mode.
- Make sure the headset has enough charge to remain on during setup.
- Keep the headset close to the host while pairing, especially for the first Bluetooth connection.
- If you plan to use EQ, 7.1 surround or microphone processing, have a Windows PC available for Synapse; those features are not part of basic plug-and-play operation.
Pair Bluetooth with the Razer Audio App
The following is Razer’s documented app workflow. It avoids guessing at a universal Bluetooth-menu sequence, since phone, tablet and computer menus differ by operating system.
Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minute- Switch to Bluetooth mode. Press SmartSwitch once if the headset is currently using HyperSpeed Wireless. The active mode must be Bluetooth before you begin pairing.
- Enter pairing mode. Hold the headset’s power button. The indicator light blinks blue when the headset is ready to pair.
- Open the Razer Audio App. Use the app on the Bluetooth-capable mobile host you want to connect.
- Choose Add Devices. Tap Add Devices in the app.
- Select the headset. Tap BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed when it appears in the device list.
- Wait for the connection confirmation. Once the app reports the device as connected, play a short audio clip and confirm that sound comes from the headset.
If the headset does not appear, return it to Bluetooth pairing mode: make sure Bluetooth is the selected mode, then hold the power button until the indicator blinks blue again. Keep the app open while the device is discoverable. If the headset was left in HyperSpeed mode, the app will not find it as a Bluetooth device.
Switching back to the dongle after Bluetooth
Press SmartSwitch once to move from Bluetooth to HyperSpeed Wireless. The headset does not mix audio from both wireless links, so a phone’s Bluetooth audio will not continue in parallel with a computer’s dongle audio. If you hear silence after switching, check which host is currently selected and verify that the headset is selected as that host’s output.

Set up 2.4 GHz wireless with the USB dongle
The dongle provides the headset’s HyperSpeed Wireless connection. Razer’s readable support material establishes the host-side setup but does not document a normal manual re-pairing procedure, so do not start by looking for a hidden re-pair command.
- Connect the supplied or edition-correct USB dongle to a supported host.
- Turn on the headset and select HyperSpeed Wireless with SmartSwitch if Bluetooth is active.
- On the host, open its sound settings and select the BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed as the audio output. If you need voice chat or recording, select it as the input device as well.
- Play audio and speak into the microphone to verify both directions.
Some hosts select a newly connected USB audio device automatically; others leave the previous speakers, headset or microphone selected. Manually choosing the BlackShark in the host’s output and input lists resolves that distinction without changing the headset’s pairing state.

If the dongle produces no sound
- Confirm that the dongle is firmly connected and that the headset is in HyperSpeed rather than Bluetooth mode.
- Check the host’s active output device. A computer can detect the dongle while continuing to send sound to built-in speakers.
- For voice chat, check the host’s input device separately; output selection does not automatically prove that the microphone is selected.
- Do not substitute the Xbox replacement dongle for the multi-platform edition. The edition-specific incompatibility is documented by Razer Support.
Use USB wired mode while charging
Razer lists USB as a third connection mode and says USB wired mode provides audio passthrough while the headset charges. Connect the headset to the host through its USB connection, then select it as the host’s output and, if needed, input device. The product FAQ describes the headset as plug-and-play across supported platforms.
USB mode is useful when the battery is low, when a host has no Bluetooth support, or when you want to avoid changing wireless modes. It also removes the need to decide whether the dongle or Bluetooth link is active: the cable is the audio path.
Configure a computer, console or mobile device
Windows PC
For basic playback and microphone use, connect by dongle, Bluetooth or USB and choose the headset in Windows’ sound output and input controls. Installing Synapse is not required for basic operation.

Razer says the following advanced functions require Razer Synapse on a Windows PC:
- 7.1 Surround Sound
- Equalizer tuning
- Microphone enhancements
Razer’s support material identifies Synapse 4 as the supported Synapse version. Install Synapse 4 on the Windows computer, connect the headset, and use the headset’s device controls in Synapse for those features. If you move the headset to a Mac, console or mobile device, do not expect the Windows-only Synapse processing controls to follow it; basic headset audio remains separate from those software enhancements.
Mac
The multi-platform edition is identified by Razer Support as compatible with Mac. Use Bluetooth or the USB connection your Mac supports, then select the BlackShark as the sound output and, for calls or recording, as the input. The documented Synapse requirement applies to Windows, so treat Mac setup as basic host audio rather than assuming the Windows enhancement controls are available.
PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4
Razer Support lists the multi-platform model as compatible with PS5 and PS4. Use a supported USB connection for the dongle or wired mode, then choose the headset in the console’s audio-device settings if it is not selected automatically. The Xbox replacement dongle is not a substitute for the multi-platform headset’s correct connection hardware.
Phones, tablets and handheld devices
For a device with Bluetooth audio, use the Razer Audio App workflow: Bluetooth mode, hold the power button for the blue blinking light, then Add Devices and select the headset. A compatible USB-A path is also listed by Razer Support for the multi-platform edition, provided the host and required adapter support USB audio.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Verify sound and microphone separately
A successful pairing does not guarantee that the host chose the headset for every audio role. Test playback and recording as two separate checks.
- Play a known audio track and confirm the BlackShark is the selected output.
- Open the host’s microphone or input settings and select the BlackShark if it is not already active.
- Check the headset’s physical microphone mute control. Razer specifically advises making sure the mic mute toggle is off when the microphone is silent.
- Record a short clip or use the host’s input meter. A moving meter confirms that the host is receiving the headset microphone signal.
If you can hear audio but others cannot hear you, the problem is usually input selection or the mute control rather than the output pairing. If others hear you but you hear nothing, inspect the output selection and active connection mode.
Understand SmartSwitch and wireless limitations
SmartSwitch makes changing wireless sources quick, but it does not create a simultaneous two-device headset. A single press changes between HyperSpeed Wireless and Bluetooth. When you change modes, audio from the previous wireless source stops being the active headset audio path.
Use the dongle when the priority is a dedicated 2.4 GHz wireless link, Bluetooth when the host offers Bluetooth audio and you want to avoid a dongle, and USB when charging and audio through one cable are more important than mobility. If you need two sources at once, this headset’s documented wireless modes are not designed for that use.

USB wired mode allows audio passthrough while charging, according to Razer. That makes it the practical fallback if the battery is low during a session: connect the headset by USB and select it as the active audio device.
Troubleshoot by symptom
The headset is missing from the Razer Audio App
- Press SmartSwitch once to ensure Bluetooth mode is active.
- Hold the power button until the indicator blinks blue.
- In the app, tap Add Devices and select BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed.
- If it still does not appear, repeat the mode and pairing steps with the headset close to the mobile host.
The headset appears connected, but audio comes from another device
Open the host’s sound controls and choose BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed as the output. Also check the active mode: a headset switched to Bluetooth will not receive the computer’s dongle audio, and a headset switched to HyperSpeed will not receive the phone’s Bluetooth audio.
The microphone is silent
Turn off the headset’s mic mute control, then select the BlackShark as the host’s input device. If you are using Windows, microphone enhancements are available through Synapse, but those enhancements are not required for the microphone to produce basic input.
Advanced surround, EQ or mic controls are unavailable
Those functions require Razer Synapse on a Windows PC. Basic headset operation does not. If you are on macOS, a console or a mobile device, use the host’s standard audio controls rather than expecting the Windows Synapse interface.
The dongle will not work with an Xbox setup
Stop and verify the edition before changing settings. Razer Support’s December 5, 2025 answer states that the multi-platform model cannot pair with the Xbox HyperSpeed replacement dongle. The Xbox edition and its replacement dongle are a separate compatibility path.
A reliable first-time setup sequence
- Read the model label or packaging and confirm whether you have the multi-platform or Xbox edition.
- Choose one connection path: USB dongle, Bluetooth or wired USB.
- For Bluetooth, switch modes, hold the power button for the blue blinking indicator, then use Add Devices in the Razer Audio App.
- For the dongle, connect it to the host, select the BlackShark for output and input, and test both audio directions.
- For USB, connect the headset, select it as output and input, and use it while charging if necessary.
- On Windows, install Synapse 4 only if you need 7.1 surround, EQ tuning or microphone enhancements.
- Before a call or game, check the mic mute control and the host’s selected input.
Once the correct edition, mode and host device are aligned, setup is straightforward: the headset is plug-and-play for basic audio, while the Razer Audio App handles the documented Bluetooth pairing flow and Synapse 4 supplies the Windows-only sound and microphone enhancements.
