The connection method depends on the device. Use the included PlayStation Link USB adapter for a PS5 or a compatible Windows PC/Mac. Use Bluetooth from a compatible phone. The adapter is paired with the headset out of the box, so PS5 and computer setup is mainly a matter of plugging in the adapter and turning on the headset. Phone setup requires putting the headset into Bluetooth pairing mode.
This guide follows the connection procedures in PlayStation Support’s PULSE Elite instructions and its device-switching and Bluetooth guide.

Choose the right connection before you start
| Device | Connection | What you need | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| PS5 | PlayStation Link | Included PS Link USB adapter and an available USB-A port | Do not treat the PS5 setup as ordinary Bluetooth pairing. |
| Compatible Windows PC or Mac | PlayStation Link | Included adapter, USB-A port and USB audio output | Sony’s computer instructions use the adapter; they do not describe pairing the headset directly to a PC over Bluetooth. |
| Compatible phone | Bluetooth | Phone Bluetooth settings | Not every Bluetooth device is guaranteed to work with the headset. |
A PULSE Elite can keep saved connections for several devices, but “saved” does not mean every device is active at once. One PlayStation Link connection and one Bluetooth connection can be used for listening simultaneously; only one Bluetooth device and one PS Link device can be active for audio at a time.
What you need for a reliable pairing
- The PULSE Elite wireless headset with enough battery charge to complete setup.
- The PlayStation Link USB adapter supplied with the headset for PS5 or computer use.
- A USB-A port on the PS5 or computer. If your computer has only USB-C, you need a compatible way to provide a USB-A connection for the adapter; Sony’s cited instructions do not establish a particular hub or adapter model.
- A Windows PC or Mac that supports USB audio output when using the PS Link adapter.
- A phone with Bluetooth enabled for mobile pairing.
Keep the headset near the device during first pairing. The headset’s indicator slowly blinks blue while it searches for a PlayStation Link connection. Once a connection is established, the indicator becomes solid; Sony support pages render the solid state differently in some regions, so the change from blinking to solid is more useful than relying on one universal color description.

Pair the PULSE Elite with a PS5
- Turn on the PS5 and wait for the console interface to load.
- Insert the included PlayStation Link USB adapter into an open USB-A port on the console.
- Press the headset’s PS Link button to turn it on.
- Wait while the indicator slowly blinks blue as the headset searches. When the connection completes, the indicator changes to a solid state.
- Play audio on the PS5 to confirm that sound is routed to the headset. If the console presents an on-screen connection prompt, follow that prompt before testing game or chat audio.
The PS5 path is deliberately short because the supplied adapter and headset are already paired. The adapter provides the PlayStation Link connection; the PS5 is not being added through its Bluetooth-accessory menu. For regional indicator details, use the instructions for your country on PlayStation Support.
If the headset does not connect on the PS5
- Confirm that the adapter is fully inserted in a USB-A port and that you pressed the headset’s PS Link button, rather than only powering on the console.
- Watch for the slow search blink. If there is no indicator activity, press the PS Link button again to start the headset.
- Check that another saved device is not taking the active connection. The switching procedure below lets you ask the headset to search for a previously paired device.
- If the console shows a connection prompt, complete it before judging whether game audio works.
Pair it with a compatible Windows PC or Mac
- Use a compatible Windows PC or Mac with USB audio output.
- Insert the included PlayStation Link USB adapter into a USB-A port on the computer.
- Press the headset’s PS Link button to turn it on.
- Wait for the headset to search and connect. The indicator slowly blinks blue during the search and changes to a solid state after connection.
- If the computer displays an on-screen connection or audio-device prompt, accept it, then play a short sound to verify the output.
Sony’s published computer procedure specifies the PS Link adapter. It does not instruct users to open the computer’s normal Bluetooth panel and add “PULSE Elite,” so do not substitute a direct Bluetooth pairing attempt for the documented PC/Mac method. Bluetooth instructions in Sony’s cited material are for compatible mobile devices.
PC and Mac checks when audio is silent
- Make sure the adapter is in a USB-A port on the computer you are actually using, not a nearby console or hub that is connected to a different system.
- Confirm that the headset indicator has reached the connected, solid state instead of remaining in the search blink.
- Use the computer’s current audio-output controls to select the connected USB audio device if the operating system has more than one output available.
- Test with a known audio clip before troubleshooting a particular game, meeting app or browser tab.
These checks distinguish a failed PlayStation Link connection from an application that is still sending sound to another output. Sony’s setup requirement is USB audio output; a computer that cannot provide it is outside the stated procedure.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsPair the PULSE Elite with a phone over Bluetooth
- Open the phone’s Bluetooth settings and turn Bluetooth on.
- Press the headset’s PS Link button to turn it on.
- Press and hold the same PS Link button until the indicator quickly blinks blue. Sony describes this hold as approximately eight seconds.
- In the phone’s list of available Bluetooth devices, select PULSE Elite.
- Wait for the indicator to become solid and play a sound from the phone to confirm the connection.
Pairing mode remains available for up to 30 seconds. If the phone does not complete the connection in that window, the headset turns off and you must start pairing mode again with another approximately eight-second hold. Select the entry promptly rather than leaving the phone on the discovery screen while you do something else.
Why a phone may not find “PULSE Elite”
- The button was pressed briefly instead of held for approximately eight seconds. A quick press turns the headset on; the longer hold is what starts Bluetooth discovery.
- The indicator is slowly blinking rather than quickly blinking. Quickly blinking blue is the Bluetooth-pairing state.
- The 30-second pairing window expired. Turn the headset on and repeat the long hold.
- The phone does not support the headset’s Bluetooth requirements. Sony cautions that not all Bluetooth devices work with PULSE Elite, so compatibility cannot be assumed solely because a phone has a Bluetooth menu.
- The phone is displaying a previously saved entry but the headset is not in pairing mode. Start the quick-blink procedure again before selecting the device.
Switch between saved PS Link and Bluetooth devices
When the headset turns on, it searches for the last device it connected to. That behavior is convenient when you normally use one console or computer, but it can make the headset appear to ignore a different device that is already nearby.
- Turn on the headset.
- Press and hold the PS Link button for about two seconds, then release it. Sony documents this action as deactivating the current connection and initiating a search for a previously paired PS Link or Bluetooth device.
- For a PS5 or computer, ensure that the destination device has its own PlayStation Link USB adapter inserted. If an on-screen connection prompt appears, follow it.
- For a phone, leave Bluetooth enabled and select PULSE Elite if the phone asks you to confirm the connection.
Moving from a PS5 to a PC or Mac is therefore a destination-device change, not a fresh Bluetooth pairing. Put the adapter in the destination computer, then use the headset’s switching control and any prompt shown by that computer. Only one PS Link connection can be listened to at a time, so the headset cannot play audio from two separate PS5/PC Link adapters simultaneously.
Use phone Bluetooth and PS Link audio at the same time
Sony says the headset can search for a paired PS Link device after Bluetooth pairing and play Bluetooth and PS Link audio simultaneously. A practical example is keeping a phone connected for an alert or call while listening to a PS5 or computer through PlayStation Link.
- One Bluetooth device can provide audio at a time, even though the headset can be paired with up to ten Bluetooth devices.
- One PS Link connection can provide audio at a time.
- The headset’s volume button controls PS Link audio when both paths are active.
- Use the phone’s own volume controls to change Bluetooth audio volume.
Simultaneous listening does not remove the one-device limits. If two phones are saved, only the currently connected phone supplies Bluetooth audio; switching to the other requires the saved-device procedure rather than an additional concurrent Bluetooth stream.
Understand the indicator without relying on one color
Across Sony’s regional support pages, the wording for the exact solid indicator color is not completely consistent. The operational states are consistent enough to use as a checklist:
| Indicator behavior | What it means during setup | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Slow blue blink | The headset is searching for a PlayStation Link connection. | Keep the adapter connected and wait for the connection to complete. |
| Fast blue blink | The headset is in Bluetooth pairing mode. | Choose “PULSE Elite” in the phone’s Bluetooth list within the pairing window. |
| Solid indicator | A connection has been established. | Play audio and verify the intended device is supplying it. |
| No successful connection before the phone timeout | Bluetooth pairing mode has ended; Sony says the headset turns off after up to 30 seconds without a connection. | Turn it on and repeat the approximately eight-second hold. |
If your regional guide names a particular solid color, follow that local description. For deciding whether to continue troubleshooting, the transition from a blink to a solid indicator is the key signal.
Understand saved, connected and active states
These three terms describe different things. A saved device has completed pairing and can be selected again. A connected device has an active wireless link to the headset. An active audio device is the source currently being heard. Several devices can be saved, but the headset does not mix multiple PS Link sources, and it accepts audio from only one Bluetooth device at a time.

At startup, PULSE Elite searches for the last device it used. If that device is powered off, its adapter is missing, or its Bluetooth radio is unavailable, the headset may continue searching instead of choosing another saved destination automatically. The roughly two-second PS Link-button hold is the documented way to stop the current attempt and begin looking for another saved PS Link or Bluetooth device.
A practical switching routine
Use this routine when moving between a console, computer and phone:
- Stop audio on the device you are leaving, when possible, so you can tell which source is active.
- Turn on the destination device. Insert its PS Link adapter if it is a PS5 or compatible computer.
- Turn on the headset and allow its normal last-device search to finish briefly.
- If it goes to the wrong saved destination, hold PS Link for about two seconds and release it.
- Watch for the solid connected indicator, then start a short audio test on the destination.
You do not need to repeat Bluetooth pairing every time you return to a phone that is already saved. Pairing is the first-time enrollment step; switching is the later selection step. Repeat the approximately eight-second Bluetooth hold only when the phone has never been paired, the saved entry was removed, or the headset has not entered Bluetooth pairing mode successfully.
What the ten-device Bluetooth limit means
PlayStation Support says the headset can pair with up to ten Bluetooth devices. That is a list of remembered pairings, not ten simultaneous connections. Only one of those Bluetooth devices can be connected for audio at a time. A PS Link connection is separate: one PS Link source may be heard, and it can play alongside the single active Bluetooth source.

Trying to pair the PS5 through Bluetooth settings
The documented PS5 route is the PS Link USB adapter. Insert the adapter, press the headset’s PS Link button and wait for the connection. Bluetooth menus are not part of Sony’s PS5 procedure.
Using the phone procedure on a computer
The approximately eight-second hold and “PULSE Elite” selection belong to Bluetooth phone pairing. For a compatible Windows PC or Mac, start with the included adapter and a USB-A port, because that is the computer method Sony specifies.
Assuming every Bluetooth-capable phone is supported
Bluetooth presence alone is not a compatibility guarantee. Sony warns that not all devices work with the headset. If a phone never discovers the headset after the correct fast-blink procedure and repeated attempts within the 30-second window, check the phone model’s compatibility information rather than assuming the headset is defective.

Expecting two PS Link sources at once
A headset can remember multiple destinations, but only one PS Link connection is available for listening at a time. Use the two-second switching action to move between saved destinations.
Changing the wrong volume control during mixed audio
With Bluetooth and PS Link audio playing together, the headset volume button adjusts PS Link audio. Change the Bluetooth level on the phone itself.
Leaving the phone discovery screen too long
Bluetooth pairing mode lasts up to 30 seconds. If you start the approximately eight-second hold and then delay choosing PULSE Elite, the headset can power off before the phone completes enrollment. Start the hold only when the phone’s Bluetooth page is open and ready to display nearby devices.

Confusing a remembered name with a live connection
A PULSE Elite entry in a phone’s saved-device list does not prove that the headset is currently connected. Check the headset’s indicator and the phone’s connection status, then use the two-second switching action if another saved destination has taken priority.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does PULSE Elite connect to a PS5 through Bluetooth?
Use the included PlayStation Link USB adapter for the documented PS5 setup. Insert it into a USB-A port, turn on the headset with the PS Link button and wait for the indicator to change from a slow search blink to a solid connected state. The PS5 procedure does not use the console’s ordinary Bluetooth-accessory menu.
Can I connect PULSE Elite to a PC with Bluetooth?
Sony’s compatible Windows PC and Mac instructions specify the included PlayStation Link USB adapter and a computer with USB audio output. They do not document adding PULSE Elite directly through the computer’s Bluetooth panel, so use the adapter for the supported computer setup.
Why is my phone not finding PULSE Elite?
Open Bluetooth settings first, turn on the headset, then hold the PS Link button for approximately eight seconds until the indicator quickly blinks blue. Select PULSE Elite promptly. Pairing mode lasts up to 30 seconds; if it expires, the headset turns off and you must repeat the long hold.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Can I hear PS5 and phone audio at the same time?
Yes. Sony says one Bluetooth source and one PlayStation Link source can provide audio simultaneously. Only one Bluetooth device and one PS Link device can be active for listening at the same time. When both are playing, the headset volume button controls PS Link audio; adjust Bluetooth volume on the phone.
How do I switch PULSE Elite from my PS5 to my PC?
Insert a PlayStation Link adapter into the destination computer, turn on the headset and, if it chooses the wrong saved destination, hold the PS Link button for about two seconds and release it. Follow any on-screen connection prompt. This is a saved-device switch, not a new Bluetooth pairing.
How many Bluetooth devices can PULSE Elite remember?
The headset can pair with up to ten Bluetooth devices, but it can connect to and play audio from only one Bluetooth device at a time. Remembered pairings are not simultaneous audio streams.
What does a solid indicator mean?
A solid indicator means a connection has been established. Sony’s regional pages differ in how they describe the exact solid color, so use the change from blinking to solid as the practical confirmation and consult your local guide for the color wording.

No. The standard PULSE Elite package includes the PlayStation Link USB adapter, and Sony says it is paired with the headset out of the box. You need an additional USB-A solution only if the computer or console you are using does not provide a suitable USB-A port.
The Bottom Line
For PS5 and compatible Windows PC/Mac, plug in the included PlayStation Link USB adapter and press the headset’s PS Link button. For a compatible phone, hold that button for approximately eight seconds until the indicator quickly blinks blue, then select “PULSE Elite” in Bluetooth settings within 30 seconds. The headset reconnects to its last device, can remember up to ten Bluetooth pairings, and can play one Bluetooth source alongside one PS Link source—but never two Bluetooth or two PS Link sources at once.
