Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Organize podcast episodes into a clearly named library, keep approved stream-ready exports separate from master recordings, and load the final files into an ordered OBS playlist. Before leaving a stream running, play through the full playlist and check every episode, transition, and rights note. OBS supports local media playback and looping playlists; the folder structure below is a practical workflow, not an OBS requirement.
Set up a library that separates masters from playback files
Use one top-level folder for the channel or show, then separate administrative records, original recordings, final exports, artwork, playlists, and archived material. For example:
PodcastLive/
00_Admin/
rights-and-releases/
stream-notes/
01_Masters/
2026/
02_StreamReady/
Season-03/
03_Artwork/
04_Playlists/
05_Archive/
Keep untouched masters in 01_Masters and put only approved files intended for broadcast in 02_StreamReady. This reduces the chance of loading an unfinished edit, duplicate, or outdated export by mistake. The names and numbering are recommendations, not required formats.
Use predictable episode names
Choose one naming pattern and apply it consistently. For example, showname_012_episode-title_video.mp4 identifies a show, episode number, title, and video file. For an audio-only item, use an audio suffix. Use leading zeroes for episode numbers so alphabetical listings remain in sequence.

Keep playlist order separate from file identity
If episodes run chronologically, order them in the playlist by episode number. If you also want a thematic or randomized lineup, create a separate playlist rather than renaming the media files to encode multiple schedules. Store playlist files in 04_Playlists and keep the media paths stable; moving files can break references in a saved playlist.
Record rights with each episode
Keep permission or license notes in the episode record under 00_Admin/rights-and-releases. Check music, sound effects, guest clips, video inserts, and artwork individually. YouTube Help says live streams are scanned for third-party matches, and even licensed material may interrupt a stream unless the rights owner has allowlisted the channel through Content ID. See YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams.

Build and test the OBS playlist
OBS’s Media Source can play local media in a scene. For a playlist of multiple files, OBS’s VLC Video source supports playlist playback, looping, and shuffle. The VLC source requires VLC installed; with 64-bit OBS, OBS documentation says a matching 64-bit VLC installation is needed. See OBS: Media Sources.
- Prepare the files: Put only approved final exports in the stream-ready folder, and avoid moving them after creating the playlist.
- Create the scene: In OBS, create a scene for the continuous show and add a VLC Video source.
- Add the episodes: Add the files in the intended viewing order. Confirm the selected paths point to the stream-ready copies, not masters or drafts.
- Set playback behavior: Enable looping for a repeating playlist. Use shuffle only if randomized programming is intentional.
- Check the whole lineup: Play every item, not just the opening episode. Confirm that each file loads, the right audio is audible, transitions happen as expected, and no draft or duplicate is present.
Preflight the stream and keep the local setup dependable
Before relying on an unattended broadcast, test the OBS settings, stream behavior, and scene configuration in a controlled session. OBS recommends testing before the first live stream; see OBS: Streaming Guidelines. Repeat the check after changing the computer, OBS sources, media files, or network.

A local OBS workflow depends on the computer running OBS and its internet connection. YouTube’s API documentation describes 24/7 live feeds as a use case and distinguishes a liveBroadcast (the event viewers watch) from a liveStream (the audio-video content transmitted to it). Most creators can use YouTube Studio with OBS without working with the API; see YouTube Data API: Live Streaming API.
Choose between a local computer and a cloud encoder
| Approach | Useful when | What to account for |
|---|---|---|
| OBS on a local computer | You want direct control of local files and have a computer that can stay on. | The computer, OBS process, power, and home internet remain part of the workflow. Test and monitor the setup. |
| StreamNeo cloud service | You want uploaded recordings or a playlist to keep a YouTube channel live without leaving your computer and home connection in the broadcast path. | Upload the media, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos; it does not broadcast a live camera feed. |

Protect the channel from copyright interruptions
YouTube Help states: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” If YouTube identifies third-party content, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn the creator; if the material remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. A license by itself may not prevent interruption: YouTube says the rights owner may need to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist. Check permissions and allowlisting before scheduling episodes that contain licensed music, clips, or other third-party material. Read YouTube Help’s live-stream copyright guidance.

Troubleshoot common playlist problems
- A playlist item will not load: Check that the file still exists at the saved path and that it is a final export in the stream-ready folder. If media was moved, update the playlist paths and test again.
- The VLC source is unavailable: Install VLC. If using 64-bit OBS, verify that VLC is also 64-bit, as required by OBS’s documentation.
- The stream repeats or shuffles unexpectedly: Review the playlist’s loop and shuffle settings. Use loop for a repeating lineup and disable shuffle unless random order is planned.
- A draft or duplicate appears: Remove it from the playlist and keep drafts out of the stream-ready folder. Verify each item in the full-lineup test.
- A stream is interrupted over third-party content: Check the episode’s rights record and whether the rights owner has allowlisted the channel in Content ID. A license alone may not be sufficient to avoid a live interruption.
- The local broadcast stops when unattended: Check whether the computer, OBS process, power, or home internet connection stopped. These are dependencies of the local setup; a cloud encoder is an alternative when you do not want the local computer and connection in the broadcast path.
