To tidy Google Wallet, touch and hold a pass and drag it to a new position. To hide a supported loyalty or gift card without losing it, archive it; to take an item out of Wallet, open it, scroll to the bottom and choose Remove pass. Payment cards use separate ordering and removal controls, and the effect of removal depends on whether the pass is tied to your Google Account, one device, or a synced Wear OS watch.
Decide whether to reorder, archive, or remove
These actions do different things. Reordering changes only the way your passes are displayed. Archiving is a reversible way to clear a loyalty or gift card from the main list. Removing takes the item out of Google Wallet and may require you to add it again later.

| Goal | Use this control | What happens | Can you reverse it? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Put a pass in a different position | Touch and hold, then drag | The pass appears higher or lower in the pass list. | Yes; drag it again. |
| Clear a loyalty or gift card from the main list temporarily | Archive in that pass’s settings | It moves to a separate archive and remains available in Wallet. | Yes; open the archive and choose Unarchive. |
| Take a pass out of Wallet | Remove pass (or the item-specific remove command) | The item is removed from Wallet. Account, device, and watch behavior varies by pass. | Usually only by adding the pass again. |
| Change payment-card order | Edit card order | Changes the order of payment cards, not the ordinary pass list. | Yes; use the same control. |
Google’s help pages describe archiving specifically for loyalty and gift cards. Do not assume that an ID, transit credential, access pass, event ticket, or payment card has the same archive menu. The safest choice depends on three questions: do you merely want the item out of sight, do you need it gone from Wallet, and on which devices should the change take effect?
- Choose reorder when the pass is still active and you simply want frequently used items easier to reach.
- Choose archive when you want a clean list but may use the loyalty or gift card again.
- Choose remove when the credential is obsolete, duplicated, or no longer belongs in Wallet, and you have a way to add it again if necessary.
Reorder ordinary passes
Move a pass in the Wallet app
- Open the Google Wallet app on your phone.
- Find the pass you want to move. If the list is long, use the search or sorting options described below.
- Touch and hold the pass.
- Drag it up or down until it is in the desired position, then release it.
This drag gesture is the documented method for arranging passes. It applies to the pass list, not to payment-card ordering. Reordering does not change the pass’s barcode, account, balance, expiration, or issuer relationship; it changes only its position in Wallet.

Reorder payment cards separately
- Open Google Wallet.
- Swipe through your payment cards to the last card.
- Tap Edit card order.
- Follow the on-screen controls to set the order.
Trying to drag a payment card as if it were a loyalty pass can leave the order unchanged because Google exposes a separate card-order command. The exact appearance of the control can vary by app version and device. Card ordering is therefore a separate cleanup task from arranging tickets, loyalty cards, and other passes.
Remove a pass from your phone
Use the general pass command
- Open Google Wallet and select the pass.
- Scroll to the bottom of the pass details.
- Tap Remove pass, then confirm if prompted.
Google documents this route for passes that expose the general removal command. If you do not see it, use the item-specific instructions below rather than assuming the pass cannot be managed. A missing command can reflect the pass category, issuer rules, device, country, or an app-version difference.
Remove a payment card
- Open Google Wallet and find the payment card.
- Open the card’s details or options.
- Choose Remove payment method and confirm.
Removing a payment card from Wallet removes its Wallet presence; it does not by itself close the underlying bank or card account. Contact the card issuer for account, authorization, or balance questions. Payment-card removal also follows device scope: a card added in Wallet on one device is removed from that device when you use the command.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Remove a loyalty or gift card
- Open Google Wallet.
- Tap View more, then View more passes.
- Select the loyalty or gift card.
- Open Settings near the bottom of the pass.
- Tap Remove and confirm.
Google uses different labels for different pass categories and app releases. A loyalty card may show Remove inside its settings instead of the general Remove pass button. IDs, health-insurance cards, transit passes, access credentials, event tickets, and other categories can have their own controls or restrictions. If a pass came from an issuer’s app, that issuer may also explain how to revoke or re-add it.
Archive a loyalty or gift card instead of deleting it
Move it out of the main list
- Open the loyalty or gift card in Google Wallet.
- Open the pass settings.
- Choose Archive.
Google states: “Archiving a pass moves it to a separate section, but does not remove or delete it.” The card is therefore a good candidate for archiving when you have finished using it temporarily, want to keep its details, or may need it again. Archiving changes visibility, not the card’s merchant account or stored value.
Find and restore an archived pass
- Open the passes page in Google Wallet.
- Scroll to the bottom.
- Tap Archive passes.
- Open the archived pass.
- Choose Unarchive to return it to the active list.
Archive is not a universal replacement for removal. Google’s documented archive workflow is for loyalty and gift cards, so look for the controls offered by the specific pass type. If you cannot find an archive section, search for the pass first and then inspect its own settings.

Archive versus remove: a practical comparison
| Consideration | Archive | Remove |
|---|---|---|
| Visibility | Hidden from the main list and placed in Archive passes. | No longer displayed in Wallet on the affected device or devices. |
| Recoverability | Use Unarchive to restore it. | Usually add it again through the issuer, email, website, or account. |
| Supported categories | Documented for loyalty and gift cards. | Available through a general or item-specific command, depending on category. |
| Balance or account | Not changed. | Not inherently changed; removal changes Wallet presence, not the issuer’s account. |
| Device scope | Depends on how the pass is synchronized. | Can affect an account-connected pass across devices, a single device, or a watch and phone together. |
Use archive when uncertainty is the main problem: you want less clutter but do not want to lose a card. Use removal when the item is truly unwanted and you have checked whether deleting it on one device will delete it elsewhere.
What removal does—and does not do
A gift-card balance is not canceled
Removing a gift card from Wallet does not spend, cancel, or reset its stored value. Google’s wording is: “Removing a card from Google Wallet does not affect its balance, only its presence in the app.” The same principle should not be stretched into a promise about every issuer’s account policy: if a card is locked, expired, or showing the wrong balance, contact the merchant or issuer. Keep the issuer’s account credentials or original confirmation if you may need to retrieve the card later.
Account and device scope are different
Google distinguishes among several storage relationships:
- A pass connected to your Google Account can be removed across devices when you remove it on one device.
- A device-specific pass may be removed only from that device.
- A payment card added in Wallet on a device is removed from that device when you use the removal command.
- Removing a pass from a Wear OS smartwatch also removes it from the Wallet app, according to Google’s smartwatch guidance.
Because the result depends on how the item was added and synced, check the pass on your other devices after removing it if keeping or deleting it everywhere matters. Do not assume that seeing the same merchant card on two devices means every pass uses identical synchronization.
Find passes quickly before changing them
Sort and search on the phone
Google documents alphabetical and recently used sorting for loyalty and gift cards, along with a search bar. The broader Wallet help also describes searching saved items. Search results can include archived passes at the bottom, so a card that appears to have disappeared may simply be in the archive.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Use alphabetical sorting when you manage many merchants and want predictable scanning.
- Use recently used sorting when you need the cards you present most often near the top.
- Search by the merchant or pass name before creating a replacement; the original may be archived.
- After removing an item, search again only if you need to verify that another copy or archived version remains.
Use the Wallet website only when the pass is supported
Google offers web management for some passes, including certain loyalty and gift cards, but availability is restricted by supported country or region and pass type. Not every item in the phone app appears on the website. Google gives private passes such as IDs and health-insurance cards, plus single-device passes, as examples that may be absent.

For the broadest set of controls, start in the phone app. If you use the website, verify that your region and the particular pass category are supported before treating a missing item as deleted. A pass missing from the website may still be present and usable in the phone app. The general Wallet instructions are at Google’s “Manage items in Google Wallet” help page, and loyalty and gift-card details are at “Loyalty cards & gift cards.”
Move passes to another phone
Transfer behavior is not identical for every item. Google may require you to remove a pass from the old device and add it on the new device. Account-connected loyalty cards, gift cards, event tickets, and boarding passes can appear on multiple devices after you sign in, but that does not mean every pass category is automatically duplicated.
- Sign in to the same Google Account on the new phone.
- Check whether the pass appears automatically.
- If it does not, open the issuer’s original email, app, or website and add the pass on the new phone.
- If Google says the pass is still attached to the old device, remove it there first, then repeat the add process on the new phone.
Do not remove a pass from the old phone until you have a way to retrieve it again, such as the issuer’s confirmation email or account. For a boarding pass or event ticket, save the issuer’s confirmation details before starting a device change. Google’s transfer guidance is available at “Transfer a pass or card on Google Wallet.”
Keep passes in sync with a Wear OS watch
Eligible loyalty cards, gift cards, and tickets added on the phone can automatically become available on a synced Wear OS watch. Google says pass order should be changed on the phone, not on the watch. Not every pass or watch is eligible, and regional availability applies.
- Reorder on the phone if the watch list is inconvenient.
- Check that the watch is synced to the phone and signed in to the intended account.
- Be cautious with the watch’s remove control: removing a pass from Wear OS also removes it from the Wallet app.
- If a pass is missing from the watch, confirm that its category is eligible rather than repeatedly deleting and re-adding it.
See Google’s current eligibility and setup notes in “Use passes with Google Wallet on your smartwatch.”
Troubleshoot a missing button or pass
The pass has no Archive option
Archive is documented for loyalty and gift cards, not as a universal feature. For another category, use the available remove command, the issuer’s app, or the current in-app help. Do not substitute loyalty-card steps for an ID, transit credential, access pass, or payment card.

The pass is not in the main list
Search for it, switch between alphabetical and recently used sorting, and inspect Archive passes at the bottom of the passes page. A website search can also omit private or single-device passes even when the phone still contains them. Check the phone app before assuming that a website omission means deletion.
Removal seems to affect another device
Determine whether the pass is account-connected, device-specific, or watch-synced. Account-connected items can be removed across signed-in devices; a device-specific item may remain elsewhere; a watch removal can remove the corresponding phone entry. Reopen Wallet on each device and check the pass before adding a duplicate.
The labels do not match these steps
Google notes that controls vary by pass type, device, country, issuer, and app version. Update the Wallet app and inspect the pass’s own settings, but do not infer that a missing button is a software failure. Some issuers control whether a credential can be removed or re-added. Google’s general reference is “About Google Wallet.”
The card was removed but you still need it
Removal does not provide an undo button for every pass type. Look for the issuer’s original email, merchant account, airline or event account, or the source app used to add the item. Add it again on the intended device, then verify that the barcode, ticket details, or loyalty number is correct.

- Inventory first: search the Wallet list and check the archive so you do not recreate an existing pass.
- Reorder active items: drag ordinary passes into a useful sequence; use Edit card order for payment cards.
- Archive uncertain items: for loyalty and gift cards you may need later, archive instead of removing.
- Remove obsolete items: use the pass-specific remove command for expired or unwanted credentials.
- Check scope: verify other phones and any synced Wear OS watch if the pass is sensitive or account-connected.
- Retain a recovery path: keep the issuer email or account details for anything you might need to add again.
Google Wallet features are not available in every country or region, and eligible pass types differ. The official overview at Google Wallet Help is the appropriate fallback when your menus differ from the routes above.

How do I delete an archived pass from Google Wallet?
Open the passes page, scroll to Archive passes, open the item, and use the available Remove command in its settings. If you want to keep it, choose Unarchive instead. Archive is documented for loyalty and gift cards, so other pass types may show different controls.
Best Value
Does removing a gift card delete its balance?
No. Google says removing a card affects only its presence in Wallet, not its balance. It does not close the merchant account or change stored value. Contact the issuer for balance, expiration, or account problems.
Can I reorder payment cards by dragging them?
Payment cards use a separate control. Swipe to the last payment card in Wallet and tap Edit card order; the ordinary touch-and-drag gesture is for the pass list.
Why did a pass disappear from the Wallet website but remain on my phone?
Website management is limited by country or region and supported pass type. Private passes such as IDs and health-insurance cards, and single-device passes, may not appear online. Use the phone app for the broadest management options.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Will removing a pass on one phone remove it everywhere?
It depends on the pass. A pass connected to your Google Account can be removed across devices, while a device-specific pass may be affected only on that device. A payment card added on one device is removed from that device, and removing a pass from Wear OS also removes it from the Wallet app.
Can I move every Wallet pass automatically to a new phone?
No. Account-connected loyalty cards, gift cards, event tickets, and boarding passes can appear on multiple signed-in devices, but Google may require other passes to be removed from the old device and added again on the new one. Keep the issuer’s original email or account details.
Why is there no Archive button for my ticket or ID?
Google documents archiving for loyalty and gift cards, not every category. Inspect that pass’s settings, use its available remove command, or follow the issuer’s instructions. Do not apply loyalty-card steps to IDs, transit credentials, access passes, or payment cards.
Can I change pass order on my Wear OS watch?
Google says to change pass order on the phone. Eligible loyalty cards, gift cards, and tickets added on the phone can sync to an eligible Wear OS watch, but regional and pass-type limitations apply.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe Bottom Line
Bottom line: Drag ordinary passes to reorder them, use Edit card order for payment cards, archive loyalty and gift cards when you want a reversible cleanup, and use the appropriate remove command only when you are ready to add an item again if needed. Check account, device, watch, and regional limitations before assuming removal affects every copy.
