Then group supplies by task, keep routine-use items within easy reach, and place heavier items only within the cart’s published shelf and total load limits. A cart that fits a gap but blocks a drawer or walkway is not a useful fit.
Measure the gap and the route, not just the cart
Measure the intended parking space, then compare it with the cart’s published width, depth and height. Also check the space needed to pull the cart out and roll it to where you will use it. Include nearby doors, drawers, appliances and walkways in that check; product dimensions cannot tell you whether a particular kitchen layout will work.

Choose a job for each shelf
Organize around a real kitchen task rather than treating the cart as undifferentiated overflow. For example, a cart might hold beverage supplies, everyday cooking items or pantry overflow. Keep related items together so you can find them without shifting several unrelated things.
- Put frequently used supplies where they are easiest to reach.
- Place heavier items only on shelves whose individual and overall ratings allow their weight.
- Use a suitably sized container to corral small items on open or mesh shelves if it sits securely and does not obstruct access.
- Allow enough room to grasp and remove items without knocking neighboring items off the shelf.
These are practical organizing choices, not a standardized or experimentally validated arrangement. Adjust the zones to suit what you actually use and how you move around the kitchen.

Check load limits before loading
Load limits belong to a specific cart model and should not be transferred from one product to another. The cited manufacturers publish different limits:

These are manufacturer claims, not independent load tests. Follow the instructions for the exact cart, including any separate shelf and total-cart limits; do not exceed either. IKEA’s cited product page also says the RÅSKOG meets EN 16121:2023 Test Parameter 1 – General Use.

Account for wheels, open shelves and food contact
Wheel locks or stoppers can help keep a cart parked while you work. IKEA lists lockable castors, Yamazaki describes casters with stoppers, and Costway lists two lockable casters. Engage the locks when the cart is stationary if your model provides them, and check that the loaded cart feels stable.
Open and mesh shelves make contents visible, but small items may need a container to stay together. Check that any container fits the shelf securely and does not make items difficult to reach.

Do not assume that a cart described for kitchen use is approved for direct food contact. IKEA explicitly says its cited RÅSKOG cart is not approved for food contact. The cited Yamazaki, Costway and Tribesigns product pages do not establish food-contact approval.

Set up and reassess the cart
- Measure: Check the parking footprint, cart dimensions and clearance to pull it out, roll it and access nearby doors, drawers and appliances.
- Assign zones: Decide what the cart will support, such as drinks, cooking supplies or pantry overflow, and keep each shelf’s contents coherent.
- Load carefully: Put routine-use items within easy reach and respect every applicable shelf and overall load limit.
- Park safely: Lock the castors or engage the stoppers if available. Consult the cart’s assembly and care instructions.
- Adjust after use: If items are hard to reach or the cart obstructs a walkway or cabinet, change its contents or position.
