Find Task Manager with Search

Open Start and type Task Manager, then select the matching app result. You can also use Search from the taskbar or press Windows key+S to bring up search before typing the app name. Microsoft documents these search options in its guidance on customizing the taskbar and navigating the Windows taskbar.

Use Ctrl+Alt+Delete as a fallback

Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to open the Windows security screen, then choose Task Manager. This takes an extra step compared with Ctrl+Shift+Esc, but it is another keyboard route listed by Microsoft on its Windows keyboard-shortcuts page.

What Task Manager is for

Task Manager is built into Windows. Microsoft describes it as a system monitor and startup manager: it shows information about running apps and resource use, can help you end an unresponsive program, and lets you manage startup applications. See Microsoft’s overview of Windows system configuration tools.
