What’s actually slowing this PC down?

To make different videos sound reasonably consistent in a YouTube stream, balance and finish each video’s complete mix, measure its integrated loudness with the same method, then adjust gain to a consistent channel target. Check peak headroom separately: matching average loudness does not prevent clipping, and turning a whole mix up or down does not fix variation between its quiet and loud parts.
YouTube does not publish a universal creator-side LUFS target in the cited guidance. Its viewer-side playback features can also change how a prepared mix sounds, so measure consistently, listen to the export, and avoid promising identical playback for every viewer.
What to match—and what normalization does
Integrated loudness estimates the perceived average level across a measured program. It is useful for comparing whole videos. Peak level, including true peak, concerns brief maximum levels and the risk of digital clipping. A peak meter alone cannot tell you whether two videos have similar perceived loudness.
Normalization applies gain to bring a program to a chosen level. Basic gain normalization raises or lowers the entire mix; it does not reduce the difference between loud and quiet passages. If a video’s dialogue is uneven or music varies too much, use volume automation or compression to control those internal dynamics before setting the final level. A limiter can catch peaks, but it is not a substitute for balancing or loudness measurement.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
A repeatable workflow for a YouTube stream
- Finish the mix before measuring. Balance speech, music, clips, and transitions at the track or bus level. If some passages are disproportionately quiet or loud, address them with automation or compression first.
- Measure the complete program. Use a loudness meter that reports integrated loudness, not just momentary peaks. Measure every video you are comparing with the same method and delivery context.
- Choose and document a channel target. Set a level that suits your own workflow and audience, then apply it consistently. There is no universal YouTube creator target established by the cited YouTube help pages. The European Broadcasting Union’s EBU R 128 version 5.0, published 21 November 2023, recommends average programme loudness of −23 LUFS as a broadcast reference; that is not evidence of a YouTube requirement.
- Check peak headroom separately. Keep the finished signal below 0 dBFS to avoid digital clipping. Use a limiter only to catch peaks when needed, and listen for unwanted changes from excessive limiting. If encoding may alter peaks, inspect the exported file as well as the mix.
- Listen critically. Check dialogue intelligibility, music under speech, quiet sections, and transitions. Also listen in mono: YouTube’s upload troubleshooting guidance warns that poor phase compatibility when stereo is converted to mono can reduce audio quality or mute sound.
- Check the YouTube playback context. YouTube documents Stable volume as a viewer-side feature that balances quiet and loud portions. The help page says it is on by default when watching videos, is not available for every video, and can be toggled by viewers. Creator controls for audio enhancements on future uploads are also documented. These settings can affect how viewers hear your mix.
How to compare several videos fairly
Use the same loudness meter and measurement method for every complete program. Compare more than a single meter reading:
- Integrated loudness for overall perceived level.
- Peak or true-peak headroom for clipping risk.
- Dialogue-to-music balance and how much loudness varies within each video.
- Mono compatibility, especially for speech and other important elements.
- Playback with relevant YouTube enhancement settings, recognizing viewers may use different settings.
If two videos have similar integrated loudness but one still feels inconsistent, inspect its internal dynamics and mix balance rather than simply increasing its overall gain. If one peaks higher, that alone does not prove it will sound louder overall.

Tools: use what fits your workflow
DaVinci Resolve’s Fairlight includes loudness monitoring and normalization tools; Blackmagic Design’s Resolve 18.6 New Features Guide lists a YouTube loudness standard option. Treat that option as a software workflow aid, not proof that YouTube mandates a particular LUFS value. OBS documents mixer meters and a limiter filter for avoiding peaks above 0 dB. Neither a specific application nor a hardware purchase is required by this workflow.
Common problems and fixes
- One video sounds quieter despite similar peak readings: compare integrated loudness using the same measurement method. Peak readings describe maxima, not whole-program average loudness.
- Speech is sometimes buried by music: adjust track or bus balance and consider automation or compression before normalizing the full mix.
- The meter matches, but the export clips: inspect the exported file for peaks after encoding; use a limiter conservatively if needed.
- Audio weakens or disappears in mono: check phase compatibility and listen to a mono version before publishing.
- The mix sounds different to some viewers: account for YouTube’s Stable volume and other playback settings; creators cannot guarantee identical playback conditions across devices and viewers.
