Multistreaming—also called simulcasting—sends the same live production to more than one platform at the same time. You can send separate outputs from your computer or send one feed to a cloud relay that distributes it. Choose based on your computer’s capacity, upload bandwidth, destination count, and preference for control versus simpler setup.
Choose how to multistream
The two main approaches differ in where the stream is distributed. YouTube’s guidance describes both options: local encoding sends outputs from your computer or device, while a cloud relay accepts one feed and distributes it to destinations. YouTube Help: Stream across platforms

| Consideration | Local encoder with multiple outputs | Cloud relay |
|---|---|---|
| Computer resources | Runs on your computer or device. Multiple outputs may require more local processing, depending on whether encoding is repeated. | Sends one feed to the relay for distribution; YouTube describes this as lighter on the device. |
| Upload capacity | Separate uploads can increase the total required bitrate. Add the target bitrates for all outputs. | You send one feed to the relay; it distributes it onward. |
| Control and setup | Can suit creators with capable hardware who want more control. | Can suit creators seeking a simpler workflow or targeting more than two channels. |
| Cost and limits | Depends on the encoder and setup; there is no universal price. | Subscriptions are common, and free plans may have varying limits. Check current terms. |
If you choose a relay, its destinations, plan limits, and current platform support matter. For example, Restream documents both an OBS encoder/RTMP workflow and a browser Studio option; its guide is vendor documentation, so confirm current features and terms directly. Restream’s OBS setup guide

Check that your accounts can go live
- Confirm that every destination account is active and in good standing, and check each platform’s current eligibility requirements.
- If YouTube is a destination, verify the channel and enable live streaming before your planned broadcast. YouTube says first-time activation can take at least 24 hours. YouTube’s multistreaming guidance
- Decide whether you will use a local multiple-output setup or a relay. Your choice determines whether you need credentials for each destination in the encoder or one relay key.
Calculate upload speed before going live
For separate outputs from a local encoder, add the target bitrate of each stream. YouTube’s example adds 6 Mbps and 4 Mbps for a combined target of 10 Mbps, then recommends upload speed 1.5–2 times that combined bitrate: 15–20 Mbps in that example. These are YouTube’s planning figures, not a guarantee that a connection will remain stable under every network condition. YouTube Help

When using an adapter, if the device is recognized as USB 2.0, try using the other side with the USB-C port. Simply flip the capture card and reconnect it to be recognized as USB 3.0
With a relay, your connection sends one feed to the service rather than a separate feed to each destination. Plan for the bitrate of that incoming feed, and check the relay’s own requirements. In either workflow, test at the intended settings with realistic motion and audio; monitor YouTube’s stream-health indicators during the broadcast.
How to multistream with OBS using a cloud relay
- Connect the destinations. In Restream, connect the Twitch and YouTube accounts you want to use as channels. The labels and available options can change; follow the current Restream interface and plan terms.
- Create an encoder stream. Create an Encoder | RTMP stream in Restream and select the destinations you want to receive it.
- Copy the relay credentials. Copy the stream key provided for that Restream stream. Treat it as a credential: do not share it or publish it.
- Configure OBS to send to the relay. In OBS, set the service/server and stream key using the values Restream provides. Restream also documents an OBS account-connection route; use the current guide if you choose that method.
- Start and verify. Start streaming from OBS, then check that each selected destination is receiving the stream. Review stream health and confirm that audio and framing work as intended at each destination.
Restream’s guide is specific to its service, not a universal OBS configuration. See the current Restream/OBS instructions.

How to stream on Twitch and YouTube at the same time
Use either a local multi-output workflow that sends to both services or a cloud relay configured with both as destinations. Make sure each account is ready, calculate the bandwidth for your chosen method, and verify that both destinations receive the stream before relying on the setup for an important broadcast.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsCheck Twitch’s current simulcasting guidance and any agreement that applies to your account. Twitch says its guidance applies unless an agreement requires exclusivity. It also says not to degrade the Twitch viewing experience compared with other services and not to use Twitch to direct viewers to another service’s live stream. Quality, transcoding, and viewer experience
Do not assume viewers on every destination will have the same quality choices. OBS’s documentation says transcoding availability depends on the platform and account tier. Its page, dated June 9, 2021, describes Twitch access as tiered and says YouTube transcodes all streams; because that platform information is dated, check current platform documentation before making decisions based on a specific account entitlement. OBS multistreaming guide
- Check each destination’s stream-health status while live.
- Confirm that audio is present and that the video framing works on each platform.
- Watch for dropped frames or other signs that the connection or encoding setup is struggling.
Copyright and channel-policy checks
Multistreaming does not remove the need to follow each destination’s rules. Before a broadcast, make sure you have the rights to the video, music, and other material you use, and check the platforms’ current copyright and live-stream policies. If you stream prerecorded material, do not assume that broadcasting it live makes it exempt from copyright rules or from a platform’s policies on reused content. The platform guidance cited here establishes multistreaming requirements and Twitch’s simulcasting rules; it does not establish a universal copyright or reused-content outcome for every channel or work.

Troubleshoot common multistreaming problems
| Symptom | Likely area to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube will not let the channel go live | Verification or live-stream activation | Verify the channel and enable live streaming. If this is the first enablement request, allow at least 24 hours before the planned broadcast. |
| One destination is not receiving video | Destination selection, account connection, or stream credentials | Confirm the destination is selected and connected in the relay, or check the relevant server URL and stream key in a local workflow. Recheck the destination’s current setup steps. |
| Stream health is poor or the stream drops | Upload capacity or local processing | For separate local outputs, compare available upload speed with the combined target bitrate and YouTube’s 1.5–2× headroom guidance. Test at realistic motion and audio, and monitor stream health. If using a relay, confirm your single incoming feed meets its requirements. |
| Viewers report different quality options | Platform transcoding availability | Transcoding depends on destination and account conditions. Check current platform documentation rather than assuming every viewer can change quality. |
| Twitch viewing experience or promotion may conflict with rules | Simulcasting guidance or an account agreement | Review Twitch’s current guidance and any applicable agreement; do not use Twitch to direct viewers to another platform’s live stream. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded videos running as a 24/7 YouTube live stream, rather than simulcasting a camera or live production to multiple platforms, StreamNeo is a separate YouTube-only option. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month.
