1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe safest way to move data from an iPad to an Android tablet is to start the Android tablet’s setup and choose Copy apps & data from an iPhone or iPad. Use the tablet’s guided wireless or cable transfer, keep both devices connected until setup finishes, and then handle iCloud photos, paid apps, and app-specific data separately. What copies depends on the tablet maker, Android version, eligible setup flow, and transfer method; no route clones every iPad app and its private data.
Start with the Android tablet’s setup transfer
Google’s current procedure begins while the Android tablet is being set up. On the screen asking whether to copy data from another device, select iPhone or iPad and follow the prompts shown on that tablet. On some eligible models, setup pairs the devices with a QR code. The labels, available routes, and post-setup options vary by manufacturer and device, so the Android tablet’s instructions are authoritative for your model. Google’s full flow is documented in Copy apps & data from an iPhone or iPad to a new Android device.

Prepare both devices before connecting them
- Charge the iPad and Android tablet so neither shuts down during copying.
- Unlock the iPad and keep its passcode available if a prompt asks for it.
- Check free storage on the Android tablet. Google warns that the destination may not have room for all selected data; remove or relocate content first if necessary.
- Decide whether wireless or cable transfer is practical. Wireless requires the iPad to run iOS 15 or later when using the Android Switch app. Cable transfer requires a cable and, when connectors differ, an adapter.
- Inspect both charging ports before buying an accessory. The exact cable or adapter depends on the iPad and Android tablet models.
- If either device belongs to a school or business, ask its administrator whether transfer is restricted; managed devices can block or limit the process.
Both devices must remain connected for the entire transfer, as Google states in its support instructions. A wireless connection means keeping the devices near each other and following the pairing prompts; a wired connection means leaving the cable attached until setup reports completion.

Choose the route that matches the data you need
Google distinguishes three current transfer routes. The categories below describe what Google lists for each route, not a promise that every model will expose every option.
| Route | How it starts | Categories Google lists | Important conditions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Classic wireless | Android Switch wireless app during setup | Calendars, contacts, photos, and videos | The iPad must run iOS 15 or later; keep it near the Android tablet. |
| Classic cable | Connect the iPad to the Android tablet during setup | Calendars, contacts, photos, videos, downloaded files, music, notes, WhatsApp history, and apps available at no charge on Google Play | Use a compatible data cable and an adapter if the connectors do not match. |
| Upgraded wireless or cable | The newer eligible setup flow offered by the Android tablet | Calendars, contacts, photos, videos, all files and folders, downloaded files, music, notes, WhatsApp history, apps available at no charge on Google Play, and some app data | App-data copying depends on developer support. WhatsApp history in this route requires a separate step after setup. |
If you need all folders, downloaded documents, or the broadest app-data support, look for the upgraded flow or a cable option on an eligible tablet. If the setup screen offers only one route, use that route and plan separate handling for anything it does not list.
Step-by-step: copy during Android setup
- Turn on the Android tablet. Proceed through the initial language, region, network, and account screens until it asks about copying data.
- Select the iPhone or iPad option. Do not choose an Android-device path. Read the tablet’s explanation of wireless, QR-code, or cable transfer.
- Pair the devices. For an eligible QR-code flow, scan the code shown by the Android tablet with the iPad as instructed. For a cable flow, connect the iPad charging cable and add an adapter only when the ports require one.
- Approve prompts on the iPad. Keep the iPad unlocked and accept connection or trust requests that appear during the guided process.
- Review the data categories. Select only what the tablet offers and what you have room to store. The route matrix above shows why a wireless classic transfer may expose fewer categories than cable or the upgraded process.
- Start copying and leave the connection alone. Keep both devices powered, nearby for wireless, or physically connected for cable. Google specifically says both devices must stay connected for the entire transfer.
- Finish Android setup. Wait for the tablet to complete its setup screens before disconnecting or closing the transfer process.
- Verify before retiring the iPad. Open representative photos and videos, check contacts and calendars, browse copied files, and launch the apps that matter most. Keep the iPad until you resolve missing cloud or app data.
Wireless transfer with Android Switch
When the tablet offers the classic wireless route, install Google’s official Android Switch app for iPad from the App Store. The listing supports iPad and describes wireless movement of photos, videos, contacts, and calendar events. Google’s requirements say the iPad must run iOS 15 or later and remain near the Android tablet while the transfer runs.

Use wireless when
- You do not have a cable and adapter that fit both devices.
- Your priority is contacts, calendars, photos, and videos listed by the classic wireless route.
- The tablet’s setup screen specifically offers the Android Switch pairing flow.
Know what wireless classic may leave behind
Google’s table does not list all files and folders, downloaded files, music, notes, or app data for the classic wireless route. If those items are essential, choose cable or the upgraded flow when the tablet offers it, or move them through their own cloud or export features after setup.

Wired transfer: cable and adapter decisions
A wired route can expose more categories than classic wireless, but only if the cable carries data and fits both ports. Start with the iPad’s charging cable. If its connector does not fit the Android tablet, add an adapter designed for those exact connectors. Google’s transfer instructions recommend checking the ports before purchasing; there is no single adapter that fits every iPad and Android tablet combination.
- Identify the connector on the iPad and the connector on the Android tablet.
- Use the iPad charging cable, adding an adapter only where the two ends cannot connect directly.
- Connect the devices before choosing the cable option in Android setup, then accept the iPad’s trust or accessory prompt.
- Keep the cable firmly attached until setup and copying finish.
The classic cable route lists downloaded files, music, notes, WhatsApp history, and no-cost Google Play apps in addition to contacts, calendars, photos, and videos. The upgraded cable route can also list all files and folders and some app data, subject to tablet eligibility and developer support.
What happens to each type of content
Photos, videos, contacts, and calendars
Google lists these four categories for classic wireless, classic cable, and upgraded transfer. After setup, spot-check several older and newer items rather than assuming that a category label means every cloud account or album was included.

“All files and folders” appears in Google’s table for the upgraded route, while downloaded files appear for classic cable and upgraded transfer. Apps and app data
Cable and upgraded transfer can copy apps that are available at no charge on Google Play. That means an Android version can be installed; it does not mean every iPad app exists on Android or that the app’s private data will reappear. Google lists app-data transfer only for the upgraded process and says it depends on support from the app developer.
Paid iPad apps and in-app purchases do not transfer as purchases. Sign in to the Android version with the account used by the developer, check whether a subscription is cross-platform, and contact that developer about account access, billing, or an export. Do not buy the same app again until you know how its licensing works.
Notes and music
Notes and music are listed for the classic cable and upgraded routes, not classic wireless. If your tablet does not present those categories, use the original note or music service’s Android app, account sync, or export tools instead of assuming the setup transfer failed.
WhatsApp history
Google lists WhatsApp history for cable and upgraded routes, but it is not automatic in every path. In the upgraded flow, Google says a separate step is required after setup. Follow the tablet’s WhatsApp prompt immediately after setup and keep the iPad available until your chats and media appear.

Move iCloud photos and videos separately
Photos and videos stored only in iCloud are excluded from Google’s direct tablet-to-tablet copy instructions. The Android tablet connection does not download those items merely because the iPad is plugged in. Google points to Apple’s separate data-request process for transferring a copy of iCloud photos and videos to Google Photos; begin from the official Android switch guidance.
Use this as a separate cloud migration: request the copy, wait for Apple and Google to process it, then check Google Photos on the Android tablet. Keep the iPad and its iCloud account intact until the transfer is visible and complete.

Some eligible Android tablets expose a post-setup transfer option; others do not. Open the tablet’s Settings and look for its own data-transfer or setup-completion instructions, or consult the manufacturer’s support page. Google notes that after-setup support varies by eligible device. If no transfer option appears, use the individual services involved: sign in to contacts and calendar accounts, install Android versions of apps, export notes or files, and complete the separate iCloud-photo request.

The tablet says there is not enough space
Return to the category-selection screen and leave out large video collections or files you can move later. Free storage on the Android tablet, then rerun the eligible transfer. Google does not guarantee that all selected data fits when destination storage is insufficient.

The wireless option is missing
Confirm that the iPad runs iOS 15 or later and that the Android tablet actually offers the wireless Android Switch route. If the software requirement is met but the option is absent, use the route shown by the tablet, commonly cable, and follow its prompts.
The cable will not connect
Check both ports and the cable ends again. The iPad charging cable may need an adapter, and the correct adapter depends on the two model-specific connectors. Do not disconnect during an active copy; reconnect only after the tablet reports that the transfer has stopped or finished.
Photos are missing after setup
Determine whether they were stored locally on the iPad or only in iCloud. Locally available photos are listed across the three routes; iCloud-only photos require the separate Apple-to-Google Photos request.
An app or its data is absent
Check whether the app has an Android version and whether the transfer route included apps available at no charge on Google Play. Private app data requires developer support in the upgraded process. For paid access, subscriptions, or account-specific records, contact the app developer rather than treating the absence as a cable problem.
WhatsApp chats did not appear
Verify that you used a cable or upgraded route that lists WhatsApp history, then complete the separate post-setup WhatsApp step required by the upgraded flow. Keep the iPad until the chat history is visible.
A practical decision checklist
- Need only photos, contacts, calendars, and videos? The classic wireless route may be sufficient if the iPad meets the iOS 15 requirement.
- Need downloaded files, music, notes, or WhatsApp history? Prefer a cable route or the upgraded route when offered.
- Need all folders or the best chance of app-data transfer? Look for the upgraded eligible flow; app-data success still depends on each developer.
- Have iCloud-only photos? Plan the separate Apple data request to Google Photos.
- Have paid apps or in-app purchases? Treat licensing and account access as a developer-specific task; purchases do not migrate as purchases.
- Unsure which method your tablet supports? Follow the setup screen for that model; the manufacturer’s flow determines the available categories.
The transfer itself is normally a built-in setup feature or a free official app. A USB-C or other cable adapter is an optional purchase only when you choose wired transfer and the existing connectors do not match.
