1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThere is no safe, universal way to lift or move every micro data center. The unit’s model, weight, center of gravity, pallet, route and manufacturer-approved handling method determine the plan. Before the delivery arrives, obtain the model-specific manual, confirm the building and route can accommodate the load and handling equipment, and agree who is responsible for unloading, installation, utility connections and commissioning.
1. Confirm the equipment and who is responsible for each task
Start with the exact make and model, not a generic micro data center checklist. Ask the supplier or carrier for the current handling and installation manual, shipping dimensions and weight, pallet arrangement, marked lifting points or center-of-gravity information, and confirmation of whether equipment is already installed inside the cabinet. Check that the manual covers the configuration being delivered.

Agree responsibilities in writing before dispatch. The division of work can vary by supplier and delivery location. For example, AWS describes different transportation arrangements for continental United States and non-CONUS deliveries. Its customers are responsible for specified external connections and for providing qualified electricians to energize the system; that arrangement should not be assumed for another vendor’s product. AWS’s deployment guidance is an example of the detail to clarify.
- Who supplies and operates the forklift, crane or other approved handling equipment?
- Who controls unloading, unpacking, staging and removal of packaging?
- Who secures or anchors the enclosure and performs grounding or bonding?
- Who provides and connects external power, network or fiber, and other utilities?
- Who is responsible for start-up, commissioning, acceptance testing and ongoing support?
Record the answers alongside the delivery plan and site-preparation checklist. If a responsibility is unclear, resolve it with the supplier before the truck arrives rather than improvising at the loading area.

2. Check the site and the complete delivery route
Assess both the final location and every part of the route between the vehicle and that location. A suitable room or pad does not make a delivery feasible if the pallet cannot pass through a doorway, turn in a corridor or cross a floor transition safely.
- Confirm that the floor, ramp or pad can support the unit and handling equipment without damage or unsafe deflection. Have a qualified facilities or structural professional review capacity where needed.
- Measure doorways, corridors and turning spaces against the shipped dimensions, including the pallet and any protrusions. Check overhead obstructions, thresholds, slopes and changes in floor level.
- Confirm that the carrier’s vehicle and lift equipment can reach and use the unloading area. Reserve room for unloading, staging and unpacking on a firm, level surface.
- Check environmental exposure along the route and at the final site, including weather during an outdoor transfer and the site conditions required by the product.
- Plan how the cabinet will be positioned, secured, connected and serviced after placement. Confirm required clearances before fixing the final location.
Requirements vary by product and service. The AWS published figures below apply to its particular outdoor modular data center; they are not generic design values for micro data centers. AWS states that unmet site requirements can delay deployment. See the AWS deployment requirements and responsibility split.
3. Arrange handling equipment and a controlled move
Use trained handlers, equipment rated for the actual load and pallet, and the moving method approved for the specific unit. Include the pallet and any installed equipment when confirming the load. Do not substitute a consumer dolly, ordinary pallet jack or cabinet handle for a required forklift or crane. A heavy-duty pallet jack is appropriate only if the pallet, rated capacity, route and manufacturer’s procedure all permit it.

Before moving, clear and inspect the route, establish who directs the movement, keep bystanders out of the handling area and make sure the team knows where to stop if conditions change. Keep the unit upright whenever its manual requires it. Do not push, pull, tilt, lift from module handles or change the fork position based on guesswork. Stop if the load shifts, the route becomes obstructed or the equipment behaves unexpectedly; reassess before continuing.
Vendor instructions illustrate why generic lifting advice is unsafe. Huawei’s FusionModule2000 guide requires a forklift with capacity of at least 1.5 times that equipment’s weight, balanced fork placement and securing the equipment to the forklift. Eaton’s iCube manual calls for keeping its devices upright, balancing the center of gravity and limiting cargo inclination to 10°. These instructions apply to those products and procedures, not to other cabinets. Huawei FusionModule2000 guide; Eaton iCube user manual.
4. Receive, inspect and document the shipment
- Check the delivery paperwork. Compare the shipment with the packing list and delivery plan before discarding documents or packaging.
- Inspect before unpacking. Look for visible impact damage, shifted or broken packaging, disturbed seals and missing accessories. Photograph damage and note discrepancies while the shipment is still in the receiving area.
- Report problems promptly. Follow the carrier’s and supplier’s receiving and claims process. Huawei’s FusionModule2000 guide instructs users to inspect the equipment and accessories and notify the carrier or manufacturer if damage or omissions are found.
- Unpack only as directed. Keep the unit stable and use the sequence and handling equipment specified in its manual. Eaton directs users performing its described unpacking procedure to take the cabinet to open, flat, firm ground; its manual recommends at least two operators for that step.
Do not move a damaged or unstable unit onward just to clear the loading area. Secure the area and get instructions from the supplier and the qualified handling lead.

5. Position, secure and prepare the cabinet
Place the unit at the surveyed location using the approved procedure, then follow its manual for leveling, anchoring or other stability measures, grounding or bonding, access panels, cable routing and environmental controls. Do not load a freestanding cabinet until its required stability measures are in place.
Panduit’s 2024 guide recommends a level, dry location with airflow and a ground connection, advises fitting anti-tilt brackets, and says to install heavier equipment in lower rack units first. It also directs users to the original equipment maker’s instructions for mounting devices. These are planning considerations; the cabinet and equipment manuals govern the actual installation. Panduit guide.
Before fitting out the rack, check device dimensions, mounting requirements, weight distribution, airflow direction and service access. Use the device maker’s specified mounting hardware and procedure. Keep ventilation paths clear and complete any enclosure, monitoring, fire-protection or security setup required for the selected system.

6. Connect utilities and commission the system
Assign electrical connections and energization to qualified personnel, following the system manual and applicable local electrical, building and fire codes. Keep installation, connection and start-up responsibilities clear: the supplier’s team may install or test some components, while the customer supplies external feeds or connections. AWS, for example, says its team installs and tests mechanical and electrical components, while the customer supplies and connects specified external power, fiber and emergency management cables and provides qualified electricians for energization. Those are AWS service responsibilities, not a default allocation for other suppliers. AWS deployment guidance.
Use the commissioning plan to verify the system as a whole rather than treating “power on” as acceptance. Depending on the configuration, checks may include:
