If it does not check them automatically, run a force re-check first. This lets µTorrent identify the data already present so it can continue downloading missing pieces.
Move an active download in µTorrent Classic
- Stop the torrent. In the torrent list, open the job’s context menu and choose the stop command. The archived µTorrent FAQ begins its procedure with “Stop the torrent job whose contents you wish to move.” Archived µTorrent FAQ: Usage
- Move the data. Use your operating system’s file manager to move the torrent’s downloaded files or folder to the destination drive. As a practical precaution, keep the same file names and folder structure; µTorrent needs to find the downloaded data at the location you select.
- Point the torrent to the new location. In µTorrent Classic, open the job’s context menu, choose Set Download Location…, and select the new location containing the torrent data.
- Check the data before continuing. If µTorrent does not begin checking automatically, open the torrent’s context menu and choose its force re-check command. Wait for the check to finish.
- Resume the torrent. Once the data has been checked, start or resume the job so µTorrent can continue requesting the pieces that are still missing.
The archived FAQ documents this sequence, but does not identify the Classic version for which its menu labels apply. If your version uses different wording, look for the equivalent stop, set-location, and force-recheck commands in the torrent’s context menu. The displayed progress may change during the move or check; the intended result is for µTorrent to recognize the pieces it finds at the new location.

Do not confuse a job’s location with the default download folder
Changing the default destination affects new downloads; it does not by itself relocate an existing half-finished job. For the default location, uTorrent Support gives the path Options → Directories: select the desired location and click Apply. uTorrent Support: Change the default download location

Classic and uTorrent Web use different instructions
The steps above apply to µTorrent Classic’s active torrent jobs. uTorrent Web’s support article describes a different flow: open the download folder with its folder icon, move files using Windows or Mac file explorer, and remove the torrent from uTorrent Web. An external hard drive is one possible destination if you need more storage, but it is not required. Whatever drive you use, keep it connected and accessible while the torrent is active.

If the download was interrupted rather than moved
For an interrupted item in uTorrent’s Torrent Feed, a separate support answer says to select the item and choose Actions → Start. That instruction concerns restarting a feed item; it is not a substitute for updating the save location and rechecking data in µTorrent Classic. uTorrent Support: Resume an interrupted download
