Use a regular Urlwatch URL job first, then filter its output to the part of the page that matters. Hindi text does not automatically need a special encoding setting: add encoding: utf-8 only if the captured text is garbled and UTF-8 is correct for that page. If the desired content appears only after JavaScript runs, use a Urlwatch browser job instead.
1. Install Urlwatch and add a page to watch
Follow the Urlwatch handbook installation and quick-start instructions for your system. Initialize Urlwatch as directed there, then open its job list with:

urlwatch --edit
Add a URL job for the Hindi page. Start with the page’s actual URL; the right selector, encoding, and retrieval method depend on that page’s HTML and behavior, so do not assume a particular structure in advance.
2. Filter the page to the Hindi content you care about
Urlwatch reports changes to retrieved content, so a focused filter helps avoid alerts caused by navigation, advertisements, or other page furniture. Inspect the page’s HTML and choose a stable CSS selector or XPath matching the relevant content. The handbook’s filter reference explains available filters and options: Urlwatch filters.
#1 Best Overall
- Notification when a website of your choice changes
- Visual difference of all modifications to a website detected (diff)
- Choose exactly which part or parts of a page to watch
- Check pages even behind logins, HTTP Authentications, form posts or long navigational sequences
This example is a starting point, not a ready-made configuration for a particular site. Replace the URL and main selector with values that match the page you inspected:
name: Hindi page changes
url: https://example.org/page
filter:
- css:
selector: main
- html2text
- strip
The CSS filter selects an element, html2text turns its contents into text, and strip removes surrounding whitespace. Urlwatch’s official example also demonstrates combining html2text, grep, and strip for narrower extraction. If the page has no suitable main element, use its actual selector or an XPath instead.
If the selected content contains repeated items, the filter reference includes options for handling duplicate matches and sorting. Sort only when order is irrelevant: sorting can hide meaningful changes if the sequence itself matters.
3. Check how Hindi text is decoded
Hindi is Unicode text, but that alone does not prove the page has an encoding problem. First inspect the output from Urlwatch. If the Hindi appears garbled because the response is being decoded incorrectly, and the page uses UTF-8, add this to the URL job:
encoding: utf-8
Keep the override only when it matches the page and fixes the observed output. Do not add it as a universal requirement for Hindi pages. The Urlwatch job documentation describes the URL job settings.
4. Choose a browser job only when the page needs one
A normal URL job is suitable when the desired content is present in the response Urlwatch retrieves. If the page shows the content in a browser but the normal job does not receive it, the content may be inserted by JavaScript. In that case, configure a browser job using the handbook’s browser-job guidance. Its wait_until setting controls when Urlwatch treats the page as loaded; choose a setting based on how the target page behaves rather than assuming every page needs the same wait.
5. Preview the filter before relying on alerts
Test the configured job’s extracted content with:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
urlwatch --test-filter
Check that the preview contains the intended Hindi text and leaves out unrelated page elements. Adjust the selector or filter if it includes navigation or misses part of the content. Filter changes apply to new content; they do not automatically re-filter historical snapshots, as described in the filter documentation.

- HTTP GET command for reading the last picture taken.
- HTTP GET command supported when device IP address is obtained.
- Connection between camera and Wi-Fi router :Up to 30 m (100 ft.) Transmission distance in open field; Wi-Fi Frequency is 2.4 GHz; WLAN: 802.11 b/g/n
6. Run checks periodically and choose notifications
Urlwatch checks pages when it is run, so schedule the command using the scheduler available on your system. The quick-start recommends not running checks more often than every 30 minutes. A slower interval may be more suitable depending on how quickly you need to know about changes and the site’s expectations. The handbook describes email, terminal output, and third-party reporting options: Urlwatch reporters.
When retrieved content changes, Urlwatch reports the changed URL and a unified diff. Its handbook describes the purpose as watching webpage changes and notifying users by email, in the terminal, or through third-party services.
7. Common problems and fixes
- The Hindi text is garbled: Inspect the fetched output first. If the page is UTF-8 and its response is being decoded incorrectly, set
encoding: utf-8in the URL job and preview again. - The browser shows content that Urlwatch misses: Check whether the content is inserted after page load. If so, switch from a normal URL job to a browser job and configure an appropriate
wait_untilsetting. - Every check reports irrelevant changes: Narrow the selector to the content that matters, then use text conversion or other filters to remove surrounding markup and changing furniture.
- The preview is empty or selects the wrong text: Reinspect the page HTML and correct the CSS selector or XPath. The title “Hindi page” does not identify a universal selector; it must match the actual page.
- Changing a filter does not clean up earlier comparisons: Urlwatch does not retroactively re-filter old snapshots. Validate the new output with
urlwatch --test-filterand expect the change to apply to new content.

For a screenshot instead of a text-change diff, ScreenshotNeo can capture a page through one GET request. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options.

ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie and consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server offers take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.
