How to Mirror a Screen in Windows 11 With Windows+P or Cast

Use Windows+P and choose Duplicate to mirror a connected display in Windows 11, or use Windows+K to cast to a compatible Miracast screen.

To mirror a connected monitor or TV in Windows 11, press Windows+P and select Duplicate. To send your screen wirelessly, press Windows+K and choose a compatible Miracast display.

Choose the display mode that matches your goal

Windows+P option What it does
PC screen only Shows content on the PC’s screen only.
Duplicate Shows the same content on all displays.
Extend Spreads the desktop across screens, giving you separate work areas.
Second screen only Shows content on the external display rather than the PC’s screen.

Mirror a connected monitor or TV

  1. Connect the display to your PC using a compatible cable or dock, then turn the display on.
  2. Press Windows+P on the keyboard.
  3. Select Duplicate. Microsoft describes this option as “See the same thing on all your displays.” Microsoft’s Windows 11 multiple-monitor instructions explain the available modes.

If Windows does not detect the display, open Settings > System > Display > Multiple displays and select Detect. Check that the cable is seated properly and that any dock is connected. Microsoft’s external-monitor troubleshooting guidance covers detection issues.

Mirror wirelessly to a TV, projector, or monitor

Wireless projection requires the receiving display to support Miracast. If it does not, Microsoft advises using a compatible Miracast adapter that plugs into the display’s HDMI port. Turn on the display and adapter, if used, then press Windows+K on the PC and choose the display from the list. Follow any prompts shown on the screen. See Microsoft’s screen-mirroring and wireless-display instructions.

Project to another Windows PC

  1. On the receiving PC, open Settings > System > Projecting to this PC.
  2. If needed, install the Wireless Display optional feature, then return to the projection settings and launch the Wireless Display app.
  3. On the sending PC, press Windows+K and select the receiving PC. Complete any on-screen prompts.

Microsoft documents the Wireless Display app workflow for Windows 11 version 22H2 and later; its instructions for earlier Windows versions use a different Connect-app route. Check Microsoft’s projection instructions for the applicable version.

Fix common display and casting problems

A wired display does not appear

  • Check the cable and dock connections, and confirm the display is powered on.
  • Go to Settings > System > Display > Multiple displays > Detect.
  • If the PC is connected to several external monitors, the display adapter may limit the number it can support. Microsoft’s monitor troubleshooting page provides further checks.

A wireless display does not appear

  • Confirm that Wi-Fi is on, the PC supports Miracast, and the receiving display supports Miracast and is turned on.
  • When projecting to another PC, make sure Wireless Display is installed, the receiving PC is discoverable, and its Wireless Display app is running.

The wireless connection fails

Microsoft recommends updating device drivers and display firmware, restarting the PC and display, or removing and reconnecting the wireless display under Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Devices. See Microsoft’s wireless-display troubleshooting steps.
