Azure Media Services was retired on June 30, 2024, according to Microsoft’s lifecycle listing. Moving to Ant Media Server is therefore a rebuild of the workflows you still need—not an automatic conversion of Azure Media Services accounts, assets, jobs, APIs, or endpoints. Start by inventorying each workflow, mapping its requirements to Ant Media Server or other services, and piloting the redesigned setup before staged cutover.
What migration to Ant Media Server does—and does not—mean
Ant Media Server is a streaming engine that can run in cloud or on-premises environments. Ant Media’s migration material introduces the product as a possible destination, but does not provide a universal, feature-by-feature conversion procedure for Azure Media Services. The available guidance does not establish automatic conversion of existing resources, APIs, jobs, or endpoints, or complete feature parity across Azure Media Services scenarios.

Plan for a target architecture that may combine Ant Media Server with Azure storage, networking, or other services. Decide which existing functions to retain, replace, or retire rather than assuming that every Azure Media Services function belongs in Ant Media Server.

#1 Best Overall
| Area | Record |
|---|---|
| Content and storage | Stored assets, storage locations, asset movement requirements, and any recording or asset-handling steps. |
| Ingest and processing | Live channels or events, ingest sources and protocols, encoding jobs, presets, and required processing behavior. |
| Packaging and playback | Output formats, playback protocols, client devices, latency and quality targets, and application playback flows. |
| Protection and access | Authentication, token handling, access controls, and other content-protection requirements. |
| Delivery and scale | CDN or other delivery arrangements, expected publisher and viewer concurrency, scaling patterns, and resilience requirements. |
| Integration and operations | APIs, client applications, automation, monitoring, alerting, runbooks, and the team responsible for operating the workflow. |
Map requirements and expose gaps
For each workflow, write down the input, processing, output, latency and quality targets, access controls, expected scale, recovery expectations, and dependencies. Map each requirement to a specific planned Ant Media configuration or to another service. Mark anything unverified as a gap to resolve in the pilot, not as assumed feature parity.
This matters especially for encoding, content protection, packaging, APIs, and CDN delivery: the available Ant Media migration guidance does not establish a universal equivalency map for these Azure Media Services capabilities. Confirm the exact behavior needed for your use case against the Ant Media edition and release you plan to deploy.

Choose an Ant Media deployment on Azure
Ant Media’s Azure cluster guide describes an architecture using Origin and Edge scale sets, MongoDB, and Application Gateway. Its deployment-choice guidance recommends starting with the cluster guide; it presents ARM-template scaling as an option for production automation and scale-out. Treat these as documented deployment patterns, not as a workload-specific sizing prescription.
- Set the requirements first. Use the inventory to establish expected publishing and viewing concurrency, availability goals, recovery expectations, and operational ownership.
- Review the cluster pattern. Check how Origin and Edge scale sets, MongoDB, and Application Gateway fit the workflow and the way your team operates Azure.
- Plan production automation. If you need production automation or scale-out, evaluate the ARM-template approach described in Ant Media’s deployment-choice guidance.
- Size and validate with your own workload. No general sizing conclusion follows from the architecture description alone. Test with representative publishers, viewers, and resilience requirements before committing to a production design.
Rebuild application and API integration
Expect to review publish and playback flows, application endpoints, authentication and token handling, automation, and operational tools. Ant Media lists SDKs for JavaScript, Android, iOS, React Native, Flutter, and Unity, plus a REST API. Those integration options do not establish that Azure Media Services APIs or existing client code will work unchanged.

- Identify every application or script that calls an Azure Media Services endpoint or depends on its response format.
- Implement the corresponding flow against the Ant Media application and API design selected for your edition and release.
- Test authorization, publishing, playback, error handling, and monitoring in the actual client applications and environments you will support.
Validate protocols against the version you will run
Ant Media’s SRT documentation provides one concrete example of a supported workflow: it describes pushing SRT streams with OBS or FFmpeg, playback through WebRTC, HLS, or CMAF, and recording as MP4. The documentation identifies SRT ingest as available in Enterprise Edition starting with version 2.4.3, and ARM architecture support starting with version 2.6.0. These version qualifications apply to that documented SRT path; they do not prove that other Azure Media Services ingest, packaging, or processing workflows map directly.
Check release-specific compatibility before implementation. For every protocol or format you rely on, validate the ingest method, output path, client compatibility, edition requirements, and any architecture-specific constraints against the version you intend to deploy.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Pilot representative workloads, then cut over in stages
If your migration includes both live and on-demand workflows, pilot at least one representative example of each. Use the requirements you recorded to define pass/fail criteria before the test.
- Exercise ingest, processing, playback on the target devices, access controls, and recording or asset handling.
- Measure the behavior that matters to your application, such as latency, quality, and startup time, against your own requirements.
- Test monitoring, failure recovery, and expected peak load; confirm the operating team can diagnose and respond to problems.
- Run the new workflow in a controlled environment, compare observable behavior, and move content or traffic in stages with a rollback plan.
Keep the relevant old configuration and data available for the transition period your team agrees on, subject to their actual availability and contractual constraints. Do not promise zero downtime or automatic migration of assets or APIs without evidence from the specific workload.

Or let it run in the cloud
For a separate use case—keeping an uploaded-video YouTube channel live around the clock—StreamNeo is a cloud service, not an Azure Media Services migration tool or an Ant Media Server deployment. It streams uploaded videos to YouTube only; it does not stream from a camera or to other platforms.
Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo loops the video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Your upload streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; there are no quality tiers or re-encoding. It can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month.
