- Start a blank design. Open Canva, choose Create a design, and select a paper format such as A4 or US Letter. Choose portrait for stacked images or landscape for a horizontal comparison. A custom size is useful when the destination printer has a specific paper dimension.
- Upload the two files. Use Uploads and add both images. Wait until each thumbnail is available before placing it.
- Insert a layout. Open Elements and search for a two-cell grid, or add two frames. Pick equal columns for side-by-side images or equal rows for a vertical arrangement.
- Place and crop. Drag the first image into one cell and the second into the other. Double-click an image to reposition its crop. Avoid stretching; use the corner handles or the frame’s crop controls to preserve the original aspect ratio.
- Set margins and gaps. Keep a safe margin around the page for printers that cannot print to the edge. Use the position controls or rulers to make the gap between images consistent. If the images contain text, leave enough space that letters do not touch the gutter.
- Check image quality. Zoom to 100% and inspect small text, barcodes, signatures, and fine lines. If a source looks soft in the editor, exporting to PDF cannot restore missing detail.
- Export. Select Share → Download, choose PDF Standard for ordinary sharing or PDF Print when you need print-oriented output, then download. Open the resulting PDF in a viewer and confirm that it contains one page with both images.

When automation is preferable
- You process batches of similarly sized images.
- You want a repeatable grid without manually aligning every item.
- You need masonry or gallery behavior rather than two equal cells.
Automation can make a poor choice consistently: a landscape image may be letterboxed, or a portrait scan may be reduced too far. Always open the output and check orientation, crop, and legibility.
Using Adobe Acrobat online
Adobe’s online guidance covers adding image files, previewing them, organizing the result, and saving a merged PDF in its merge guide. That workflow is well suited to combining files, but a generic merge can place each image on a separate page. How to preserve readability and correct sizing
Choose the page before scaling images
Decide on A4, US Letter, or another target size first. Scaling images after export can introduce an extra conversion step and unexpected margins. If the PDF will be printed, ask the recipient which paper standard and orientation they expect.

Do not drag a side handle to force an image into a cell. Crop deliberately when necessary, and retain the uncropped original for records. For documents, cropping a corner can remove a date, page number, or signature.
Leave printer-safe margins
Many office printers cannot print to the edge. A narrow white border is safer than having content clipped. For digital-only PDFs, you can use a smaller margin, but preview the page at its actual viewing size.

Check metadata and privacy
Online editors upload files to a service. For identity documents, medical records, contracts, or confidential scans, review the service’s current processing and deletion policy before uploading. If policy requirements prohibit cloud processing, use a local desktop layout application instead.
