Convert a PDF page to a PNG or JPEG file in Acrobat
Use Acrobat’s conversion workflow when the destination needs an actual image file rather than a clipboard paste. Adobe documents this workflow for Windows and macOS. See Adobe’s PDF-to-JPG instructions for the current conversion steps.
- Open the PDF in Acrobat. Check that it is the correct file and that the pages you intend to export are present.
- Choose Convert in the top tools bar.
- Select Image format, then choose JPEG, PNG, TIFF, or JPEG 2000.
- Choose a save location when prompted and complete the export.
- Open the exported image to confirm the page, orientation, and legibility before uploading or sharing it.
For a multi-page export to JPG, expect a sequence of individual image files—one for each page—not a single long image. Adobe describes this behavior in its multi-page conversion guidance.
Which format should you pick?
- PNG: A good choice for text, diagrams, interface screenshots, or material that needs transparency. Adobe identifies PNG as its transparency-oriented option. It uses lossless encoding, which helps preserve clean edges.
- JPEG: Often suitable for photographs and scans when a compact, web-friendly file is useful. Adobe describes JPEG as web-friendly; compression may soften fine text or sharp edges.
- TIFF: Consider it for high-quality archival workflows when larger files are acceptable. Check that the recipient or application supports TIFF.
- JPEG 2000: An option when its advanced compression is useful and the target system supports the format. Verify compatibility before sending it to a service with limited format support.
Copy one page or a selected area with Snapshot
Snapshot is useful for a one-off clipboard image rather than a saved export. Adobe explains: “You can use the Snapshot tool to copy all the selected content to the clipboard or another application.” See Adobe’s Snapshot tool instructions.

- Open the PDF in Acrobat and navigate to the page.
- Choose the Snapshot command. If it is not visible in your current toolbar or menus, consult Adobe’s linked instructions for the current Acrobat interface.
- Click the page to capture its visible content, or drag a rectangle around only the area you need.
- Paste the clipboard image into a document, image editor, or other destination with Ctrl+V on Windows or Command+V on macOS.
- If you need a standalone image file, save or export the pasted image from the application where you placed it.
Snapshot reflects the view on screen: the current zoom and visible area matter. If part of the page is outside the viewport, a click capture may not include it. For a complete, consistently framed page, use the conversion workflow instead.
Extract pictures embedded in a PDF
Choose Acrobat’s image-export option only when you want the pictures already stored in the PDF, not a rendered image of the page. It extracts raster images; it does not turn the full page into an image and does not export vector objects as raster pictures through that option. Adobe documents the distinction in its PDF export guidance.
If your goal is to share a chart or diagram exactly as it appears with labels, surrounding text, and page layout, convert the page or capture a region with Snapshot. Extracting an embedded picture may omit those surrounding elements.

Windows and macOS considerations
Adobe documents the conversion process for both Windows and macOS, with platform-specific save-dialog instructions. The exact appearance of the save dialog can differ by operating system and Acrobat version, but the general sequence is Convert, choose an image format, then save to a location.
A screen capture is a fallback if you cannot use a direct page-export workflow. Adobe documents using PrtScn on Windows or the macOS Screenshot utility for a screen capture that can be used in a clipboard-created PDF workflow; these capture the screen, not a PDF page rendered at a chosen output resolution. Image quality, framing, and privacy
Prefer export when page geometry matters
Converting through the PDF renderer generally preserves page geometry more reliably than photographing the screen with a screenshot. A screen capture is affected by zoom, display scaling, window chrome, and the visible viewport. Snapshot is convenient, but it is tied to the current view; the conversion workflow is the better fit for a complete page image.

Check text and edges at the destination size
Before publishing or sending the image, inspect small text, thin lines, and page edges at the size people will actually view it. PNG is generally the practical choice for diagrams or text-heavy pages; JPEG may make photographs and scans easier to share when smaller files matter. The best choice also depends on what the receiving site accepts.
Review sensitive content before export
Before sharing, check the PDF for personal information, hidden annotations, comments, or metadata. Crop or redact sensitive material in the PDF before exporting; do not assume that cropping the resulting image removes information embedded elsewhere in the document.

The exported image contains more pages than expected
Multi-page conversion saves each page as its own image. Check the output folder for the page-specific files, then use the file corresponding to the page you need. Do not expect a single tall image from a normal multi-page export.

Snapshot misses part of the page
A click capture is based on visible content. Adjust the zoom or scroll so the desired content is visible, or drag a selection rectangle over the exact area. For a full page independent of the viewport, convert the PDF instead.

The image looks blurry or includes interface borders
This commonly happens with a screen capture: display scaling, zoom, and window chrome affect what is captured. Use Acrobat’s image conversion for a page export, then inspect the result at its intended size.
The extracted image is missing text or diagram elements
The export-images option extracts embedded raster pictures, not the complete rendered PDF page or vector artwork. Convert the page to PNG or JPEG, or use Snapshot for a selected rendered region.
The file is rejected by the destination
Check which formats the destination accepts. If JPEG 2000 or TIFF is unsupported, export as PNG or JPEG instead. For text and diagrams, try PNG; for web-friendly photographs or scans, try JPEG.

Can I save just one page from a multi-page PDF?
Yes. Convert the PDF to an image and use the output image for the page you need; Adobe’s multi-page JPG guidance says each page is saved as a separate file.
Does Snapshot create a JPG or PNG file by itself?
Snapshot copies selected content to the clipboard. Paste it into another application, then save the image there if you need a standalone file.
Can the PDF-to-image method capture a web page?
No. Acrobat’s conversion workflow converts a PDF you open; for a webpage URL, a website screenshot tool such as ScreenshotNeo is a separate option.
