For the simplest repeatable graphical workflow, use Excel’s Power Query to combine the files in a folder. For a scriptable option, PowerShell can import CSV rows as structured data and export them together. Both approaches avoid the common mistake of stacking every file’s header into the middle of the merged data.

Combine CSV files with Excel Power Query

Put the CSVs you intend to merge in a dedicated folder. Keep unrelated files and subfolders out, or plan to filter them from the folder listing.

In Excel, select Data > Get Data > From File > From Folder, then choose that folder. Review the listed files to confirm they are the intended inputs.

Choose Combine > Combine & Load to load the combined table directly, or choose Combine > Combine & Transform Data to inspect and adjust the query before loading it.

In the Combine Files dialog, check the example-file preview and the file-origin and delimiter settings. The first listed file is used as the example by default. If the preview parses columns unexpectedly, adjust the settings before loading.

Review the result for missing or misaligned data. Decide deliberately whether to skip files that produce errors: skipping them can omit source data.

What the source files need in common
Power Query is designed to combine files with the same schema. Microsoft advises using consistent column headers, data types, and numbers of columns. Columns are matched by name, so their order can differ between files; different names or incompatible structures still need to be resolved or transformed. Power Query combines the data into one table with a single header, rather than treating each input file’s header as another data row. That is why this workflow is safer than simply appending the complete text of every CSV.

Merge CSV rows with PowerShell
PowerShell’s Import-Csv reads CSV content as structured objects, while Export-Csv writes objects back as CSV. This lets a script combine records without carrying each input header into the output as a data line. The following example is for files with the same headers and comma delimiter; test it with representative inputs before relying on it.

Keep the output outside the input folder where possible; the example also excludes the output path to avoid importing an earlier result if it is in that folder. For a non-comma delimiter, supply the appropriate -Delimiter to Import-Csv and ensure the inputs use that same delimiter. The cmdlet supports path, delimiter, header, and encoding options; consult the Import-Csv documentation for their details. If files differ in encoding, headers, or column structure, resolve those differences before combining them.

Check the merged file before using it

Confirm the output has one header row and that source headers have not appeared as ordinary records.

Check that expected columns are present and values appear under the right headings. Power Query matches by column name; a PowerShell import/export workflow depends on compatible headers and layouts.

Inspect dates, numbers, and text that may be interpreted differently by a chosen delimiter, file origin, or data type.

Compare the output against the source files, especially if Power Query reported errors or you chose to skip files.
Which method should you use?
Choose Power Query if you want to combine a folder through Excel, inspect or transform the result, and refresh the query after adding files. Choose PowerShell if you need a repeatable command-line process and are comfortable adapting and testing a script. Neither method removes the need to reconcile different schemas, delimiters, or encodings before treating the result as one consistent dataset.
