You can measure a person’s height with the built-in Measure app, but automatic person-height measurement is available only on supported iPhone models. Open Measure, frame the person from head to toe, and the app displays a height line and reading above them.
Which iPhones can measure a person’s height?
Apple describes person-height measurement as a feature for supported models. Its LiDAR Scanner list includes these iPhones:

- Open Measure. If you do not see it on your Home Screen, look in the Utilities folder or use iPhone Search.
- Position the iPhone so the person is visible from head to toe in the camera view.
- Wait for the app to detect the person. A line appears above their head, with the height value below it.
- To keep a record, tap Take Picture. Tap the thumbnail at the lower left, tap Done, then choose to save the image to Photos or Files.
- To measure someone else, turn the iPhone away briefly to reset height detection, then frame the next person.
Apple says the measurement runs from the floor to the top of the person’s head, hair, or hat; the app can also measure seated height. See Apple’s iPhone User Guide instructions.

Why doesn’t the Measure app show a height?
Start by checking model eligibility: automatic person-height measurement is limited to supported iPhones. If your model is on Apple’s list, make sure the person is fully in view from head to toe and wait for the detection line. If detection does not reset between people, turn the phone away briefly before trying again.
Apple’s instructions do not specify a minimum room size, lighting threshold, clothing requirement, or maximum distance for this feature. If the app still does not detect a person, the published guidance does not establish a specific fix beyond confirming support and framing the person fully.

How precise is iPhone height measurement?
Apple does not publish a numeric accuracy range, tolerance, or validation statistic for the person-height feature. Treat its result as a convenient estimate, not a documented precision measurement. If an exact or clinically documented height is needed, use a conventional wall-mounted or clinical stadiometer.

The main advantage is convenience: a compatible iPhone can produce a measurement and a photo record without a separate measuring tool. A tape measure or stadiometer is the better choice when you need a repeatable measurement with a documented method or accuracy specification. Apple does not provide such a specification for the Measure app’s person-height reading.
