To match colors in Filmora, use AI Color Palette to copy the look of a chosen timeline frame or local image/video, then refine the effect with its strength control. For more reliable results, first correct obvious exposure and white-balance differences in each shot; automatic matching can help clips feel consistent, but it cannot make footage captured under very different conditions identical.
Prepare the shots before matching
Place the clip you want to adjust and a suitable reference shot in the project. Choose a reference that has the color and overall look you want the target clip to approach. Filmora’s current Windows guide supports using either a frame from the timeline or a local image or video as the reference. Filmora’s AI Color Palette guide describes both options.

If the target has an obvious technical problem—such as a color cast, badly exposed highlights, or shadows that are too dark—correct that first. In Filmora, open Color > Basic and use the available white-balance and light controls to address the capture difference before applying a creative match.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCorrect white balance and light
Filmora documents Auto and Eyedropper options for white balance, as well as manual Temperature and Tint adjustments. Its light controls include Exposure, Brightness, Contrast, Highlights, and Shadows. These adjustments can make two shots easier to compare, but they do not recover detail that was never captured. See Filmora’s color-correction guide for the documented controls.
#1 Best Overall
- ACHIEVE TRUE COLOR - Ensures your monitor displays colors accurately, critical for photography, design, and video editing, with unlimited gamma, whitepoint, and brightness settings. - OPTIMIZE DISPLAY PERFORMANCE - Calibrate a wide range of backlight types including Wide LED, Standard LED, OLED, QD-OLED, Apple Liquid Retina XDR, and Mini LED, with support for brightness up to 12,000 nits, ensuring consistent and accurate color across all your screens.
- ENHANCE WORKFLOW EFFICIENCY - Projector Calibration feature allows for accurate color representation during presentations, while Display Analysis/MQA provides comprehensive screen quality assessment. Export 3D LUTs (.cube) for compatible video monitors, with support for Rec.709, Rec.2020, and DCI-P3.
- WIDE DEVICE COMPATIBILITY - Supports unlimited number of displays (per computer capability) and offers native USB-C connection plus an included USB-A adapter, ensuring seamless connectivity with modern laptops and desktop computers for streamlined use. StudioMatch and SpyderTune keep color consistent across multi-monitor setups.
- USER-FRIENDLY SOFTWARE - Features an intuitive interface supporting 10 languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese and Japanese, making calibration accessible to a global audience. Existing SpyderPro users upgrade to the new software free.
For future shoots, a gray card can provide an optional neutral reference for white balance. It is a capture-side aid, not a Filmora requirement or a guarantee that shots filmed in different light will match perfectly.
Match a clip with AI Color Palette
Filmora’s newer Windows instructions call the reference-based tool AI Color Palette. Follow these steps in the current interface described by Filmora’s guide:

- SPECIFICATIONS: Monitor calibration colorimeter with Easy 1 2 3 software workflow, USB C connection, compact body approx. 34mm tall x 37mm diameter, adjustable counterweight for screen placement, supports up to 2 displays, brightness target selection including Native or Photo with before and after check.
- EASY SETUP: Guided 1 2 3 workflow makes calibration fast and approachable, helping photographers and creators achieve more accurate color without complicated settings, so you can edit with confidence and trust what you see on screen.
- COLOR ACCURACY: Corrects common monitor color shifts to deliver truer tones and more reliable contrast, improving consistency across editing sessions and helping your images look closer to final output on other screens and devices.
- DUAL DISPLAY SUPPORT: Calibrates up to 2 monitors for matching color across a multi screen workspace, ideal for photo editing, video work, and creative setups where consistent viewing on both displays matters.
- BEFORE AFTER CHECK: Built in comparison view lets you instantly see the difference after calibration, making it easy to confirm improved accuracy and maintain consistent results by repeating the process on a regular schedule.
- Select the clip whose color you want to adjust.
- Open AI Color Palette from the clip’s right-click menu or from the Color panel.
- Choose a reference: move to the frame you want in a timeline clip, or select a local image or video.
- Generate the palette. If you chose a local video, select the reference frame you want Filmora to use.
- Save and apply the result, then adjust Strength to find a balance that suits the footage.
- Compare the target with the reference and check adjacent shots in playback so the grade works as part of the sequence.
The reference provides a direction for the target’s look; it does not mean every property of the shots will become the same. Differences in lighting, exposure, or camera capture may still need individual correction.
Choose a reference and refine the result
There are three practical choices to make in the AI Color Palette workflow:

- SPECIFICATIONS; Includes Calibrite Display 123 colorimeter for monitor calibration plus ColorChecker Passport Video 2 for video and photo capture control, designed for exposure reference, white balance setup, and consistent color workflow from capture through edit.
- CAPTURE CONTROL; Passport Video 2 helps set accurate white point, verify exposure, and match multiple cameras on set, giving filmmakers and hybrid shooters a reliable reference for consistent footage in changing or mixed lighting conditions.
- MONITOR CALIBRATION; Display 123 provides an easy monitor profiling workflow so photographers and creators can trust on-screen color when editing, grading, designing, or delivering work that must remain consistent across displays.
- CREATIVE CONFIDENCE; Built for content creators who want dependable color management, this kit reduces trial-and-error corrections, improves workflow efficiency, and supports accurate results for both still photography and professional video production.
- PRO CREATOR WORKFLOW; Ideal for videographers and photographers who require consistent color standards across multiple cameras, monitors, and software platforms, helping maintain professional results from on-set capture through final post-production.
- Reference source: Use a timeline frame when the look comes from another shot in the project. Use a local image or video when your visual reference is outside the timeline.
- Strength: Treat the generated match as a starting point. Lower or raise its strength while comparing the target and reference; a full-strength effect is not automatically the most natural choice.
- Skin handling: Consider enabling Protect Skin Tones when people are in the footage, then inspect faces in the actual sequence.
Make the comparison under consistent viewing conditions and watch the clips in context, not only as isolated still frames. A match that looks convincing on one frame can still feel abrupt when the edit cuts between shots.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Use the older Color Match workflow only for its interface
If you are following an older Filmora tutorial, its Color Match workflow uses a reference preview, a Match button, a comparison view, and a strength slider. Filmora’s tutorial explicitly identifies that workflow with versions V11, V12, and V13; its newer Windows guide uses the AI Color Palette name and steps instead. The older sequence is: enable Color Match, choose a reference frame, click Match, inspect the comparison view, adjust strength, and confirm. See Filmora’s older Color Match tutorial and check that its labels fit your installed version before following it.

When to use a LUT instead
A LUT is another way to apply a reusable look, rather than matching a target directly to a reference frame. Filmora documents importing LUTs, adjusting their strength, protecting skin tones, and exporting a selected grade as a .cube file. Use a LUT when you want to reuse a chosen grade; use AI Color Palette when the task is to bring one clip toward the appearance of a specific reference. Filmora’s documented controls are described in its color-adjustment guide.
