To limit who can see your PlayStation friends list, change the “Who can see your friends” control in your account’s privacy settings. On PS5, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Privacy > View and Customise Your Privacy Settings, then adjust that specific control. PlayStation says account privacy changes are reflected across devices.
Change friends-list visibility on PS5
- Open Settings > Users and Accounts > Privacy.
- Select View and Customise Your Privacy Settings to edit individual controls.
- Under the information controls, find “Who can see your friends” and choose the audience you want.
PlayStation’s support guide names the control but does not list every audience choice in its indexed text. Select from the options shown on your account; available labels may vary with software, region, or account state. See PlayStation’s privacy settings guide.

Use a preset or change only this setting?
The PS5 also offers Adjust Privacy Settings by Choosing a Profile, with four presets: Social and Open, Team Player, Friend Focused, and Solo and Focused. These profiles cover broader profile and communication privacy. If you only want to change friends-list visibility, use the custom-settings route and edit “Who can see your friends” rather than switching an entire profile preset. PlayStation Support describes both routes.

Change privacy settings on the web or PS4
On the web
- Open Account Management > Privacy settings.
- Select the relevant feature and edit it.
On PS4
- Open Settings > Account Management > Privacy Settings.
- Select the privacy feature you want to change.
PlayStation’s account-management route is documented in its privacy settings guide. Menu wording can differ; follow the labels shown on your console or account if they do.

Does the change apply to every device?
Yes. PlayStation Support states: “Privacy settings are tied to your account. If you change the privacy settings for your account, those changes will be reflected on all devices.” The setting is account-linked, rather than a separate friends-list preference for each console.
What if you cannot change the setting?
If the account is a child account, a family manager, parent, or guardian may manage its privacy settings. PlayStation says the family manager can also choose which settings the child is allowed to change, so the available controls depend on the account’s parental-control permissions. Friends-list visibility is not the same as friend requests
Privacy controls also affect search results and who can send friend requests, but those are related settings rather than the same control as friends-list visibility. If you also want to limit requests or discoverability, review the relevant privacy options separately. PlayStation explains friend management and related privacy effects in its guide to adding and removing friends.
