Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Windows 11 offers different ways to make a pointer easier to see, trace its movement, or highlight clicks. For a larger or higher-contrast pointer, use Accessibility settings; for a trail while it moves, use Mouse Properties; for a visible click highlight, use Microsoft PowerToys. These controls do different jobs, and the reported newer Settings control called “mouse indicator” is not established as available on every Windows 11 build.
Choose the indicator that matches what you want to see
| Goal | Setting or tool | What it shows |
|---|---|---|
| Find a pointer that is hard to see | Settings > Accessibility > Mouse pointer and touch | A larger pointer or a different style and color |
| Follow pointer movement | Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mouse > Additional mouse settings > Pointer Options | A trail behind the pointer |
| Make mouse clicks visible | PowerToys > Mouse Utilities > Mouse Highlighter | A configurable highlight when you click |
| Show where a touchscreen was touched | Settings > Accessibility > Mouse pointer and touch | Visual feedback at touch points, not mouse clicks |
Make the mouse pointer larger or change its color
- Open Settings > Accessibility > Mouse pointer and touch.
- Adjust the pointer size, then select a pointer style or color that stands out against your usual backgrounds.
These built-in controls change the pointer’s appearance; they do not add a highlight around each click. Microsoft documents this route in its Make Windows easier to see and Change mouse settings guidance.

Show a trail as the pointer moves
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mouse.
- Select Additional mouse settings.
- In Mouse Properties, open the Pointer Options tab.
- Turn on Display pointer trails, then select Apply or OK.
A trail helps viewers follow pointer movement across the screen; it is not click feedback. Microsoft describes this option as a way to see where the mouse is moving in its visibility guidance and mouse settings guide.

Do not confuse mouse clicks with touch feedback
The Touch indicator setting is for touchscreen input. It shows visual feedback where the screen is touched, rather than highlighting clicks from a mouse. Find it under Settings > Accessibility > Mouse pointer and touch; Microsoft explains the distinction in Make Windows easier to see.

Is there a newer Windows 11 “mouse indicator” setting?
Windows Central reported a mouse indicator and pointer trails on a newer Settings page in connection with Windows 11 25H2. That report does not establish that the control is present on every Windows 11 build, and the Microsoft guidance linked above documents the established pointer, trail, and touch controls instead. Check your own Settings app for a control with that name; if it is absent, use the relevant built-in route or PowerToys option above rather than assuming your installation is missing a universally available feature. See the Windows Central report.
