To stop your iPhone Camera from reopening with a particular setting you used last time, go to Settings > Camera > Preserve Settings and turn off the matching option. This changes what Camera remembers; it does not reset every camera option to a factory state. For a broader reset, iPhone offers Reset All Settings, but that affects settings across the device, not just Camera.
Stop a camera setting from carrying over
Use Preserve Settings when a specific choice—such as Camera Mode or Exposure Adjustment—keeps appearing the next time you open Camera.

- Open Settings.
- Tap Camera, then Preserve Settings.
- Turn off the switch beside the behavior you no longer want Camera to preserve.
The available switches depend on your iPhone model and supported features. Apple lists options such as Camera Mode, Photographic Style, Creative Controls, Depth Control, Macro Control, Exposure Adjustment, Night Mode, Portrait Zoom, Action Mode, ProRAW & Resolution Control, Apple ProRes, and Live Photo. Turning off a switch controls whether that choice carries over when Camera is opened again; it is not a command to reset every related feature or preference.
If you want to change a specific camera feature rather than how it is remembered, adjust that feature directly in Camera or its settings where available. The controls and their availability vary by model and software version.

Reset the visible arrangement of Camera tools
Some iPhone camera interfaces provide Reset to Essentials for returning the visible tools arrangement to its default set. This affects the arrangement of tools shown in that interface; it does not reset all camera preferences or the rest of iPhone settings. Availability and interface details can vary by model and software version.
Reset all iPhone settings only if you need a broader reset
Apple’s documented route is Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset All Settings. This returns settings to their defaults without deleting data or media, but it reaches well beyond Camera. Apple identifies affected areas including network settings, the keyboard dictionary, location and privacy settings, and Apple Pay cards; other device preferences can also be reset.

Apple describes this step as “rarely necessary” in its general troubleshooting guidance for issues such as Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. That is not a camera-specific diagnosis. If Camera is misbehaving, first consider whether a preserved choice or an individual camera control explains what you are seeing.

Do not select Erase All Content and Settings when your goal is only to change camera behavior or reset settings. If you are considering a full settings reset and need to retain your current configuration, back up the iPhone first.
